My Vintage Hat Collection // Upgrading To Archival Storage
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 тра 2021
- Today I'm transferring my entire vintage hat collection into a new storage solution! But if I was going to move every hat I felt it was only right to show them all to you as I went along. So here are my hats, and I do, yes....have quite a few of them. I have been collecting for 10 years now, and bargain hunting into the depths of Etsy has yielded some truly fantastic results!

But wait there's more! A PO BOX finally wahoo!
First, a disclaimer: So many of you have kindly offered to send me things, including vintage items you may have inherited, and I am so honored you would think of me and of course I do adore vintage treasures, however, unfortunately I only have so much storage space currently! So there is a chance that if something just wont work for me, or doesn't fit me etc, that I may not be able to keep all of your lovely things. Please only send things if you are okay with the possibility that I may donate items I just cannot keep. If you would prefer I put things that I can't keep into the TCH Etsy shop to help raise funds for me and the channel, please specify this in a note or letter in your parcel. Thank you so much!

I vote yes on ALL the hat tutorials! Teach me the secretsssss
Agreed!
Second it shall we move it to a vote? !!

I just love how wonderful the Team is here
My grandma used to love hats, the bigger the better, and then her new boyfriend said they look silly. Now she pretends she doesn't like them. I think you, as a fellow hat person, understand how sad that is. I'm going to have to smuggle some to her when he's not looking.
She needs a new boyfriend!
She so needs a new boyfriend. I think I speak for the majority on this.
@@sarahrosen4985 Soooo right.
The should tell him to get lost
Well...... out with the boyfriend!
Use a hand steamer on those vintage flowers. You will be surprised how great they will look. I have been an antique clothing collector for 40 years. i worked for a museum and restored hundreds of vintage hats for displays and exhibitions. Also be sure to steam the crowns of your hats. Put them on a hat block first. The moisture will help with very dry and dusty straw hats. You have such a beautiful face and every hat looks great on you.
Thank you!
Yes, Please. I would like to try making a straw hat from a placemat... and how to add those straps/elastics to hold them on my head.
Yes I have a straw like green place Mat would be amazing to make into a hat. I’m thinking autumn 🍂 Halloween 🎃
"They wouldn't let me curate actual museums, so I just decided to buy a bunch of vintage stuff, and have my own museum."
Is an actual mood, emotion, and state of being. Same. Just, same
The black hat with the full face veil, wide brim and faded Milner's flowers, is totally giving me *OOTD to my 4th billionaire husband's funeral* vibes and I'm living for it!! Especially with the dark lip you have on!..ugh!! 😍😍
Thank you! That vibe is basically my goal always anymore, mysterious and possibly venomous dame is the look ha 😅
I love a good curation video! And I would never say no to a diy video. Hope you had luck writing this week!
Thank you Chae! Several Chapters were completed 🥰
When the comments all talking about the "ramen" hat, I couldn't picture it and then Bianca pulls it out and I was like ohh yes! Definitely ramen. Lol
"What ramen hat?....oh, yeah, noodles." 🤣
I too have a hat problem... I don’t have enough heads. My hats are not vintage but they are art pieces. I’m taking notes on storage.
I love that so many hats are so interchangeable, era wise. LOVE hats! Hate getting flack for them. Even in the 80s. I couldn't wear an 80s hat without getting crap about wearing a hat.
People mock what they do not understand I suppose, I fricken love a hat!
Your collection is impressive and yes to any millenary tutorials.
Thank you Lynette!
Oh yes to all the hat, hair clips and fascinator tutorials!
I really appreciate the amount of time you put into your editing. Finding all the clips and pictures of you wearing the hats. I can't even imagine how long that must have taken you.
Thank you Violette ❤
Can't wait to see you make a hat!
Hat's coming soon!
YES! Hat tutorials!
“Funny loofah hat.”
It’s a ramen noodle hat. That’s the only answer.
2 videos this week? Yay!
that is exactly what i was thinking.
Noodle hat is excellent! 😂
OMG, ramen hat, lol
I love your channel because you show me things I wouldn't normally look at and you style it so well and makes me rethink what I look at
Thank you Laura!
I remember the gorgeous multi-coloured striped hat from your blog and I get so disgustingly jealous every time I see it because it's my absolute dream hat! You have such a wonderful taste in hats!
Thank you Ella! It is a good one for sure, I'll be make a striped silk hat here on the channel eventually so others can make their striped hats of dreams too!
Yes! I don't remember all the questions but yes! My mom was born 100 yrs ago and had her own collection of hats. Alas she passed when I was 14 and my father got rid of all her things. I have wanted her hat and glove collection for decades.
That is so sad on several levels. :-(
Ok, so... this video was hard for me to watch. I was overcome with hat envy too many times to mention!!!! You have an amazing collection and I am green with envy. Speaking of green, don't you think you should make a lovely little green silk suit to go with that amazingly beautiful stunning gorgeous striped silk hat you have there? Just saying :-D
Thank you Julia! I mean they do have an emerald green suiting wool on Mood Fabrics dot come right now, and I'm not saying I haven't been tempted...
You are SOOOOO much like me when it comes to your hats! The way you love them and talk about them...I’m sitting here nodding and agreeing with everything you say! 😂 Makes me want to go buy a hat! And I’m not even half through the video yet! Le sigh.....
PS John Wanamaker is and old department store.
Thank you Arthelia! If only there were still real hat shops, can you imagine? 😍
You trying to explain why you needed so many black straw hats was like me trying to explain to my mother-in-law today why I needed to buy more fabric. 😆
All these wide brim hats on you are giving serious Resident Evil 8 villain vibes and I’m here for it!
My gamer brother has also told me this, but I know nothing of scary games 😅
Hearing you chatting about hats makes my heart sing. Thank you for making this oasis of vintage. -Therapist from Montreal.
Thanks Lissa!
I love hats and I loved to wear hats. Not a fan of "used" hats. Like to buy new hats that look vintage. I have maybe 30 more or less. They live in boxes that I received when I purchased. Boxes are still very nice, bought from upscale stores. I do tend to like the twenties/flapper style. Your collection is amazing, seem to have for every occasion.
As a conservation student I spend an unbelievable amount of time designing and making boxes. Frequently I make little acid free trays to divide objects up if more than one is being returned to a museum/owner. If you're worried about things touching in the boxes I'd recommend that method. Also sachets of silica gel pellets if you have any worries about damp (I'm English, damp is always a problem 😂) some moth balls etc can leech acids and other such stuff as well, so making sure that they don't touch hats etc is always fun. I absolutely love seeing private collectors storing things nicely. And seeing your collection, thank you for sharing!
I am super lucky that the climate here is very dry, hard on skin but good for storage ha 😅 Thank you!
I'd love a placemat hat tutorial! I also desperately want a video on how to make something like that little autumnal fascinator at the end!
I had to come back and watch this again! We have different styles - you actually can wear the smaller size hats. I have a HUGE he’d which is why I love toy tilt hats. You make me want to film my collection as I *ahem* get acid free boxes and acid free tissue to store them. More hats!!! Woot!!!
Well I'd always love to see more hats so I support this!
I wish I could wear hats, not sure if it is my head/face/confidence, but I appreciate those who can ;) Also I believe the hat with the pink/brown feather is likely a turkey feather.
I look terrible in hats. I’ve tried so many styles and even when I think something looks good. . . photos of me wearing the hat prove otherwise. I need a stylish to crack my head’s hat code.
I'm exactly the same Brittany...big head issues here 😝
This is one more issue with there not being hat shops anymore, where one used to be able to go try on many different styles and find which worked best for them!
Oh yes!! I'm ALL about hats and so looking forward to part 2 tomorrow. Placemat hat tutorial? Please!!
Bianca sitting on her floor in her pjs surrounded by a few of her favorite things ....Hats!
I'm like a dragon but my treasure hoard is vintage accessories 😅
As always, love anything black on you! That leopard ensemble.......TO DIE FOR!!!!!! And those dress clips....oh my. Fabulous collection of hats!
Thank you Brenda!
My mom wore hats all the time. I wear hats and love them. At one point I had a vintage hat collection, vintage brooch collection and vintage glove collection. I still have most of the brooches and gloves it sold all the hats but my favorite 2. Since I live in Florida now and am retired (all those nice suits and dresses are gone to better homes) I really need to clear out the gloves and brooches. Seeing your collection reminds me of the pleasure each item gives and sharing hat wearing with my mom. ❤️🥰
This is going to make me have a hat obsession, all of them are so gorgeous
Thank you Sarah! Look out, hat love is contagious!
Can't wait to see part 2
17:44 yes the straw placemat hat DIY sounds fun 😊 now to look see if there is one!
Now I want hats... thank you for letting us peak into your collection and inspiring us to not just save these, but wear them and appreciate their style.
Thank you Jean!
your fall fruit fascinator hat with your green streak is divine!
Thank you!
My partner and I were just discussing how people used to wear hats everyday. I vow to find some more. My gran said to me you don't just plonk a hat on, you MUST angle it slightly. And you have totally backed this up. You looks fabulous!
Thank you Libby!
The Loofa hat was just so funky! But I am totally with you on all the black and navy!
DIY vintage hat making would be very interesting to watch I would be here for that for sure
That first 1940s hat is reminding me of a delicious stroopwaffel, and now I want stroopwaffels, damn it!
It is indeed very stroopwaffel-esk 😂
Yay vintage hats! Abbey Cox uses archival boxes from The Container Store for her antique and vintage clothing collection. I love your taste. So many cute hats, especially straw hats. Please show us the placement into hat tutorial. Thank you for showing us your collection. I’m binging both episodes.
Thank you Kimberly!
I would love to see a placemat hat tutorial! Honestly, any kind of hat tutorial would be amazing. Also that Blade Runner hat is absolutely stunning, wow
Thank you! I can't wait to wear it out with a black suit ✨
Ah! John Wanamaker's. A high end dept opened store in 19thC Philly, doing business right up through the 1960s. This was my grandmothers' go-to dept store. I recall going there when I was young. At one point they had stores in NY, London and Paris. You have a piece of history there. (The co. was sold in 1976 and the downtown Philly store later became a Lord&Taylor. Now it's a Macy's.)
Hi, Bianca! I love those boxes. I'm going to check them out!! 🤗
I love the brooch! Now I am homesick for the Scissor Sisters. Lovely collection!
Thank you Danielle!
You have very likely reignited my love of hats!!
Evercrumbly & Witch has some really cute hats in addition to their witch hats and they are milliners so the hats are on point.
So many pretty hats. Moving over to part 2. :}
This is a lovely memory for me when I used to go shopping with my Mum when I was younger. We always went hat trying on .The fluffiest, the biggest or the most extreme.I even did it with my daughters.I am not a hat person, they look terrible on me ,same as with my Mum lol. She was always in scarves, looked better .But stopped wearing them when they became less fashionable. You have a lovely collection though 🥰
Thank you Christine! I wish there were still hat counters in department stores, or more entire hat shops, sounds dreamy
Hey Girl! The Cicadas are coming [out east]. The Magical 17 year [brood X] cicadas will be here (well, a little east of here) soon....
Luckily I don't think we get them here in Colorado, but I wish them the best the noisy buggers 😅
I got a hat recently that was faded. It was originally black and cause I got it so cheap, and it was straw, I used dye on it and it had such a good effect. I used leather dye, and painted it on. It caused the hat to stiffen up a bit which is a good thing and it made the hat jet black again. Huge success, I would do it again! (In cause you want to refresh your faded red hat .. )
I was born in 1952 and have pictures and memories of my mom in her hats. Veiled and all. And I remember wearing those "clamped" hats at Easter when I was a little girl. That "luffa" hat looks like ramen noodles. LOL. Thanks for your videos!
I wish I had been more into vintage when my grandmother was alive so she and I could have talked hats, she was born in 1929 so I'm sure she had worn many in her time! And yes it is very noodley, now I cant unsee it ❤
Thank you for sharing your collection! It’s is amazing! And Yes! PLEASE! Straw placemat into hat tutorial!!
Great collection! I would keep ALL the hats. Re: FUN FACT: that combination of blue cornflowers, daisies, poppies and the yellow flowers (can’t remember what they are rn!) - that is a classically Ukrainian flower head dress motif in ethnic dress. I used to dance in a Ukrainian dance group in Toronto (one of many in the city in the late 70s/80’s) and all the girls in every group wore that exact floral combination on their heads with matching trailing ribbons down the back when performing.
Everytime I see a Hat tour You inspire me to have a "Say Something Hat day!" thank you and your Collection rocks
Thank you Alexandra!
That 80's hat is so Blade Runner, you could totally wear that in the bar scene. Blade Runner is my favorite movie, maybe why I like your channel so much.
As a senior citzen, can I just add that in the 80's my friends and I used to haul vintage hats for like 50 cents each all the time. It's sad to think how many ended up in landfills back in my day
I am both jealous and also feel the sadness of all the lost vintage that was simply thrown out 😭 I love the bar scene, I wish I could inspect every outfit!
This video was so well time for me. I've been hunting for vintage hats and lo and behold here's your collection.
Be still my hat loving heart. What a beautiful collection you have! I also have about 30 hats all of which I wear at one time or another. Most of mine are cloche and fedora style but you’ve inspired me to look for some 40s/50s style ones. 😊
Thank you Susan! Michelle of the channel My Vintage Love has shown some of her hat collection on her channel too and she has the most gorgeous fedora and now I want one 😍
Thanks for sharing your beautiful collection! You are a darling and a doll...
Thank you!
Ms. Bianca I am enjoying the shower loofa hat and all of the black shallow hats! I appreciate your 10 years worth of collecting. I will be viewing this video and the next to come on a "repeat" basis as I absolute adore hats, gloves, wallets, purses, shoes, pins, flower pins, ribbons, etc. - c'est manifique!
Thank you Zoraya!
Enjoying your collection of hats! Funny that 80s hat fits with your eras. Tfs
Thank you for sharing Bianca! I love seeing all the different hat styles that are out there and it's really great to see how you're storing them.
Thank you Kathryn!
Yiu should take pictures of each hat and then tape the picture to the outside of your box. Thus will help you in cataloging the contents of each box.
I'm lucky that my brain acts as a pretty good catalog 😅
I love hats. The hat I've always wanted is the hat Greta Garbo wore in Ninotchka. I bet you know which one it is.
I think you should keep all your hats, they’re all beautiful 😍
Thank you! I cherish them for sure ❤
So many gorgeous hats to choose from. The 'absurdly good' one with the veil and the exquisite cluster of millinery flowers would be very hard to resist.
Thank you Gillian!
Loving all of the hats! And I gotta say, I would be very interested in a placemat hat tutorial 😊
The placemat hat tutorial is a great idea! My grandmother used to have a set for every season, I’ll have to see if they are still kicking around some place.
Love love LOVE seeing all those hats, what a gorgeous collection! I'm going to watch the second part right the heck now. *heart eyes*
Thank you Emma!
love the "wilted pillbox", the nutmeg straw, et al! I have some round, dark grey straw placemats, so please do the DIY!
JUST WONDERFUL.....ENJOYED SO MUCH !!
I love to see all your collections! Amazing hats.❤️
Thank you Iara!
I just stumbled across your video - first time viewer. I’m enthralled with your bold retro style and confidence. I love this video like no other…. and I can’t wait to watch Part 2. Keep ‘em coming!!
Can’t wait for tomorrow’s hat video!!
Hi Bianca!! Wonderful collection of hats.. Can’t wait to see the rest….
💜💜💜🧵🧵🧵
Thanks Deana!
They're all so cute! (Even weirdly the shower loofa one?) Can't wait to see the rest!!
Thank you Josie!
Yes to the straw placemat hat DYI please.
Gorgeous collection 💕 Wanamakers was a department store ✨ that first hat was a private label
Thank you Cayte!
And now you probably know that you can buy the (lovely grey) archival "cardboard" in large flat pieces and build your own box in any size, shape or configuration you can manage to engineer. Which definitely won't save you any time. But might save money. (They wouldn't let me curate either, but they do let me work very hands-on in their textile storage areas--for free! Yes, I am a university trained volunteer.) Love Love LOVE your channel.
Thank you Meghan!
What a lovely collection! Thanks for sharing them and the archival boxes. I'll be looking into those. I've had trouble just finding large hat boxes, let alone archival ones. I'm just mad about hats and I truly enjoyed seeing yours. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of them.
Thank you Andy!
I love hats and can’t wait to see the rest of your collection!!!!
I don’t wear clothes of this period- but oh my word it is indisputably you- the loofah was my fav I think- so fun as you would say
Thank you Penny!
Sitting here ooooing and ahhhing with each hat you show😂
I'm making vintage inspired hats and I appreciate you sharing details of you're collection enjoy! enjoy! working on the shattered rainbow I'll share a pic with you when completed ❤❤🧵👒
Love hats you’ve got some cute ones 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩💖💖💖💖
love your collection! I’m also staring to wear hats, and try to go over my comfort zone, and let me tell you, it feels great!
Thank you Nika! I'm glad you are having a good time with it!
On that shallow brown hat @ 22:54 - those mystery feathers look like the wild turkey wing feathers I find out in our fields sometimes! Owl feathers would have been protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, so I bet they are turkey!
25:04 🎩 I adore that black and red accents
Loves your hat collection
The black velvet hat is very Bette Davis like. 💓
Man, I love that cute little dior style beige hat, it makes me think of the new look! It's soooooo pretty 😍
You are so lucky to look good in hats, I think I would look like a dork in one.
I'm sure some people in my suburban surroundings do think I look like a dork in mine 😅
Love ALL of your hats. I have an embarrassingly large collection of hats that I never wear, sadly. A lot of them are Helen Kaminski from Australia. You look so cute in your hats!!!
Thank you Alice! I haven't been able to wear mine in about a year except for here in lookbooks, I can't wait to wear them out again!
They are all SO SO cute. I adore them all, almost as much as you do.
Thank you Kelli!
Enjoyed watching you pack you hats away. I actually went through my hats this afternoon and got rid of one that didn’t suit me. Plus while I am watching you I am waiting for a vintage cloche style hat to finish on eBay to see if I have one it! Your green and black her looks fantastic. 💚
Thank you Amanda! I have already added a new 50's felt hat to my collection since filming this...I wore it in my latest video ha 😅
@@TheClosetHistorian is it the blue one with your lovely new blue hair streaks? 😁🦋
@@strangeamanda7470 indeed, it's a black base with these wool "ribbons" of blue and teal 😍
That light straw number with the stripped quill, just, STABBED through the ribbon...was the milliner having a day when she made it? Regardless, it's savage and iconic and I love it.
I do like the slight violence of it 😂
I’ve never liked hats on myself but some of these are absolutely amazing
The way that hats are able to completely deny gravity fascinates me - I suppose ... well ... fascinators ...
WOAH - open crown hats?! I have literally never thought about different styles of hats and the history of hats. So cool and interesting?! I hope you share more of your historical accessory collections!
(side note: as an archivist, I am SO HAPPY to see archival protection for your collections
Thank you Johanna! There are soooo many hat styles from just the 40's alone, it's wild how many different hats there were to choose from then!
LOVE Love LoVe , the 1980's Saucer Hat !!!!! -All about the Hat-a-tued ! Colleen
Thank you Colleen!
