  • In this video I'll show you how you can easily add Slime tyre sealant to an inner tube with Presta valves with removable cores, without the need for special tools or adapters, and without having to remove the tyre or the tube from the wheel rim.

    Cool tip, but even easier is to use a Presta to Schrader adapter.
    Remove the valve core with a valve core removal tool, screw on the adapter with hose, attach the bottle and squese in the right amount.
    With slime installed, remove the bottle, hose and adapter, screw back the Presta valve and pump up the tyre.
    Job done.
    I can also share how to unclogg a clogged valve core;
    Just remove the valve core and clean in a small jar with kerosene (paraffin/lamp oil), dry and screw it back.

    I put sealant in a non removable presta valve after watching a video on how to remove it .
    It worked ,it's done .
    You back off that small nut on top and push it into the tube . Put a clothes hanger clip.around the valve to hold it under the stem. Then push it back in ,put the nut back on .
    Presta valves suck . The only 29 " tube available had presta valves . Now it has sealant in it .
    I'll see how long it goes without a flat

    If your Slime isnt flowing in or seems to block as it enters the valve, boil the kettle and stand the bottle of slime in for 5 mins, flowed in like a charm. Thanks for this video, worked brilliantly. Hopefully punctures are almost non exsistant now

    Good tips here but for those of us who never had any idea that presta valves come in two varieties, showing the actual removal of the valve would make this video much more complete.

    The Stans Sealant (not Race version) lasts about 6-7 months. I deflate my tires very slowly after this period, remove the presta valve core and add new sealant very slowly. I always seem to spill some sealant no matter how careful I try. And the presta nozzle can't be in the top most or bottom most position. I position the tube nozzle about half way up like you did so gravity will take effect. My presta valves lately have been clogging and have to be replaced to add air to my tires. Valve cores are very cheap. The Stans brand I think are the best.

    I was taught to file down the top of the screw and then remove the small nut. Push the screw into the tube and fill as you describe and show in video. Then by feel you search and insert screw into valve. Replace nut and pinch the end of the screw. Add air with valve at the 12 o'clock position to avoid slime plugging the valve. Been doing it for many years.

    Can I use a shrader adapter on my presta valve (obviously after removing the core) and not bother with the cable tie?

    • @chrisdevereux
      @chrisdevereux  2 роки тому

      Honestly, I haven't tried - depends how tight the fit between the adapter and the plastic tube is and I don't have any experience of this.

    • @lewismaynard4

    It is not necessary to create a tight seal if the valve is on top. All the sealant went in the tube, none was spilled, as there was much less resistance toward the tube. I found this after trying the trick shown in this video, but I was unable to tie a tie to create a seal - perhaps, my tie was thinner.

    • @chrisdevereux

      No, I think the idea is that it stays liquid so that it can work its way into any puncture hole you might get in the future.
