I'm Japanese, so I'm glad you picked up this song. This song reminded me of the power of music. I have same feeling with your reaction. This song was released three years after the Great East Japan Earthquake. At that time, Japan as a whole was desperate to overcome sadness and helplessness. The bright melody and optimistic and positive lyrics have given the hearts of many Japanese people a sense of comfort. When I first listened to this song, I remember being impressed by the simple message, "There is no basis, but the future is bright! All you need is a smile!"

Many of their early songs would put a smile on your face. Iiwake Maybe, Flying Get, Oogoe Diamond, RIVER and many others are relentlessly positive. AKB is short for Akihabara, where they are based. They have a theatre where they perform, and their concept is that they are idols you can actually meet. There are hundreds of members, but 16 are usually picked to perform for a lead track.

Ah for me River and Iiwake Maybe make me kinda cry lol. Iiwake Maybe literally SOUNDS like an unrequited love. It’s so happy but bittersweet, and the bridge leading into the final chorus is just like a burst of emotion. Same with River, it’s literally the embodiment of wanting to give up, but you just keep going, and something about the Kami7 in this song particular is just the cherry on top. They shine in every song, but them in River specifically just adds so much soul.

    7:09 - I'm with you!
Overall, it is a relatable song. I always view Koisuru Fortune Cookie as a happy tune, pop-like dance steps, with emotive lyrics. It gets me emotional when listening to the 2nd chorus where the lyrics says "Even God won't know what's coming next @ 6:54 " and "Don't take it so negative @ 7:03 " - on point life realities there.

AKB stands for Akihabara, which is a neighourhood in Tokyo. They perform on the 8th floor of the Don Quijote Akihabara outlet store. There were 16 members in this song, but there are a lot more members in the group. For happy songs try Namida Surprise, Ponytail to Shushu, Every Day Katyusha, Sayonara Crawl, Enkyori Poster, Majisuka Rock n Roll, Give me Five, Halloween Night, Wasshoi B, and Nagisa no Cherry.

I’d love to see you react to more songs by AKB48! They’re one of my old favorite groups, I had no idea you’d reacted to them until now when it popped up in my recommendations. I tend to veer towards their “darker” songs, but for more like this one I suggest Gingham Check, RIVER, Iiwake Maybe, Ponytail to Shushu, Ue Kara Mariko.

akb48 is a rotational group. they are the biggest group in the world.
the group debuted in 2005. the members debut by generations in the group. they have a graduation system where the members can leave whenever they want. there is no contract! because there are so many generations, the group never ends and keeps adding more members!
there can be up to 100 members in the group at the same time and no, you do not need to know every single member.
akb48 also have sister groups where the members from those groups can also participate in akb48’s singles and even be transferred to akb. some members also have concurrent positions in akb48 as well. and akb48 members can have concurrent positions in their sister groups or even be transferred.
the mv you just watch has a total of 16 members. the members were selected by the 5th general elections where members of akb48 and their sister groups participate to get selected to be in the group’s new single. the fans vote for the members and their ranking is what determines where in the single they participate in.
other than singles that are chosen by general elections, the rest are usually chosen by the management.

The good thing about Idol pop is that it's 100% positive and there are no negative words, and everyone feels cheerful and can enjoy it comfortably.

Delving into the world of Japanese music I've gotta recommend a few bands/artists I love. Some of them I've put the kanji in square brackets after the romaji as it might make it easier to find in Japanese.
    JPop:
BiSH [especially My Landscape, and More Than Like]
Flower [especially Monokuro and Yasashisade Afureruyouni]
Ikimono-Gakari (they have done some of my favourite anime openings and endings) [especially Blue Bird, Hanabi, and Netsujou no Spectrum]
YUI [especially Rolling Star, My Generation, and Never Say Die]
    JRock:
ONE OK ROCK [especially they're We Are 18 Fes (they gathered 1000 18-year olds to celebrate Japan's change in their age law and had them be a 'fifth member' for the day), as well as Deeper Deeper, Broken Heart of Gold, Renegades (co-written with Ed Sheeran), I Was King, and Taka's (the vocalist) cover of Adele's Hello]
MY FIRST STORY (Taka's youngest brother Hiro is the vocalist) [especially Fukagyaku Replace, Alone, Missing You, Shissō Flame [失踪FLAME], Paradox (song for the Japanese version of The Matrix Resurrections), Hana-0714- [花-0714-], Shūen Requiem [終焉レクイエム], Hiro's First Take of Hyena, and Hiro's cover of See You Again by Wiz Khalifa ft. Charlie Puth]
Given (an anime but also the name of the band in said anime) [especially Fuyu no Hanashi, Yorugaakeru, Uragawa no Sonzai, and Hetakuso]
Centimillimental (singer-songwriter, lyricist, composer and guitarist who also did songs for Given) [especially Kizuato, Tsuiraku [対落], and Seishun no Denbu]
GRANRODEO (they have done so many of my favourite anime openings/endings) [especially Rimfire, Memories, Trash Candy, and -7- seven (in collaboration with FLOW)]
FLOW (again they've done a few of my favourite anime openings/endings, but also some JRock too) [especially -7- seven (in collaboration with GRANRODEO), Go!!!, Sign, Oneness, and Innosense]
OLDCODEX (again they've done a few of my favourite anime openings/endings, but also some JRock too) [especially Catal Rhythm, Rage On, Deal With, Eyes in Chase, and HEAVEN]
Stereopony [especially Hitohira no Hanabira, and Stand By Me]
Survive Said The Prophet [especially found & lost]
    Kawaii Metal:
BABYMETAL [especially Shanti Shanti, Megitsune, The One, Karate, and Ijime, Dame, Zettai]

Hey from France! 🇫🇷👋🏻 Listen, I'm a more a metalhead but I felt in love with Måneskin when I watch Eurovision. Do you know this band? Not metal but you could give it a try 🙂
And if you're searching for something unique in metal I recommend the band Eluveitie!
Have fun, I really like your reactions!

I adore all her songs but some of my favourites are Goodbye-Days, Again, It's My Life and of course Green a.Live (written after the 2011 earthquake in Japan).

On a recent episode of his podcast, Joe Budden said he hates K-pop sensations BTS and incorrectly assumed they’re from China.
“I hate them BTS n***as,” he said, as heard in the clip below. Pressed for his logic, he answered, “Do I need a reason? I hate them n***as. I don’t have to divulge my reason to you, I just hate them n***as. I don’t wanna hear that shit, I don’t wanna see them dance moves, I don’t wanna see you come down in the sky in a little umbrella. I don’t wanna see [you]...come from the audience and link up like Voltron and do all of the 98 Degrees moves. I don’t wanna see none of this shit.”
Without saying too much about why he doesn’t like the group, he went on to incorrectly say BTS were from China. “I know they big, I know it’s China, I don’t wanna see it,” to which his co-host Parks Vallely told him they’re Korean. “I don’t want to see Korean-Sync,” Joe said, throwing down another ’90s boy band reference.

Popular wise. Kpop is more popular world wide but japan is the second largest music industry that why you see so many kpop artist memorize and sing in japanese when they promote in japan. You make good money over there. Even though japan is the second largest music industry in the world, they don’t put much effort in their music video production like south korea :kpop

    • @GOTGames

@@GOTGames maybe thats why kpop is more popular and unique. They spend so much money on their music video and they put so much effort into their choreography and performances. They gotta stand out somehow.
Also kpop idols used to promote in china too but both countries got some beef so they cannot promote over there anymore. The next biggest music industry is japan and the usa. Being successful into the biggest music industry in the world : USA is too hard so the next biggest is japan. You will see a lot of famous kpop groups singing in japanese when they promote in japan. They may sing it in Japanese but it doesn’t mean they actually understand the languages.
Its funny how japan is a small country ; basically an island but has a population of 120+ million and a powerhouse economically but south korea only has like half of japan population. If you add even north Korean people to south Korea , japan still has more people. South korea just don’t want to give birth 😅
