Hey now! I work at a Ross store. Come to think of it, you’re probably right. The tackiest décor pieces we carry are the designer logo canvas “art”. Because of course a California kingsnake curled around a Gucci logo is a luxury item…
@marthahawkinson-michau9611 i love Ross because I love buying crafting supplies, but storage for the supplies is pricey at places like Michaels and Hobby Lobby. But Ross (atleast the one near me) has the BEST craft storage and it's literally all between $2-$4
@@Throatzillaaa those are legitimately a good deal! All of our storage bins are really well priced. I found a two pack of fabric cubes for $4.99 a few weeks ago. I couldn’t pass them up.
Absolutely agree. The things I love about glam are more art deco than I realized. I love velvet furniture and fuzzy non animal blankets. Mirrors, cool. Mirrored furniture .. no.
1-2 mirrored furniture piece is fine if it's the kind that looks antiqued _(eg. I've seen French furniture with mirrored panels on the fronts)._ That's it tho lol
Great natural glam suggestion: buy crystals instead of rhinestones! The natural colours and shapes will help give a less boxy look but add that shimmer and shine u look for. Try to go for natural cuts and not tumbled crystals for texture. If u like the tumbled look try to have them framed (inside unique metalwork or presented in a nice wooden display) to add a bit of opalescence.
I historically was a glam hater, but I’ve come to appreciate that it’s a design style that doesn’t ask women to be “appropriate.” Live in a shiny, feminine dreamworld if you want - just ditch the matching furniture sets 💖
I have some glam. I’m trying to tone it down and take some things out. I’m so glad I couldn’t afford the mirrored furniture. I was going to DIY my vanity. I remember you saying your mom likes glam. That’s probably where you got your love for style she must be a special lady.
This is too funny. I accidentally stumbled upon your reels/videos. I liked👍🏻 the first one i saw. Afterwards i randomly watched 4 more. I think it’s the algorithm. But everything you said was so spot on for me. About likes/dislikes, trends or overrated things. I was so surprised. Thank you for the tip/advice. Can you maybe also include same European stores/brands. That are available internationally? 🤗
Personally, I'd argue the way to "fix" Glam is: 1) Only use high quality materials (which takes money, and vintage is a great suggestion). 2) Get really good at balancing textures and proportions. Your mirrored whatever doesn't stand out as much if everything is mirrored, so balance it with velvet and faux fur etc. Distribute these textures around the room. 3) Don't display brands / logos. Instead think about ways to make the decadence more personalized to you. Displaying vintage glamorous items (hand mirrors / jewelry etc.) from a relative is so much better than a Chanel logo above your bed. 4) Do not use coordinated furniture sets. 5) Use sophisticated colour schemes. Glam is absolutely not my style. I'd push back on Nick a bit here though, and say adding natural elements is not really "fixing" Glam as much as it's trying to get rid of (or at least to diminish) Glam and make something that he and I would like better. If we're strictly "fixing" Glam, and not blending styles, natural materials don't belong.
I love the glam style the first two pictures were very similar to how I styled my house. But I agree with you on the mirror and the French bulldog stuff. It does seem very tacky.
I can't agree, Nick. The entire point of Glam style is to GET AWAY from nature and live in the land of shiny man-made sparkle. And therefore, you can't incorporate any natural materials at all. And since most other styles imitate and incorporate nature, no other style mixes with Glam. You're either all-in on Glam or you're not. I do agree that a Glammer should use fewer, better quality pieces and skip the cheap stuff -- which is clearly what your sample pictures did.
It's always better to mix different design styles within the space. Interiors created by using purely one style look cheap and devoid of personality. Pure glam just looks tawdry. It might cost a fortune but still looks cheap because it's so fake.
So.. when you showed "What to do instead"... all you showed was beige. Beige & browns, etc. You didn't incorporate anything 'glam'. Understandable if you just hate it so much & you just don't like anything gold, silver, mirrored, sparkly, plush, etc. But if you like those things, just showing MCM, or artsy modern beige & wood, doesn't help to show how to tone it down. It's just another style altogether. Know what I mean? Sorry.. so much gets lost in typing. I really do think you're fantastic, which is why I subscribed. *sidenote* Request: Would LOVE to see how you blend/decorate a room w entirely vast & eclectic tastes. 🙏
I love Glam. It’s the only style that fits with my girly girl aesthetic. I think what’s different in mine is that my house it painted black to break up all the gray and sliver. I also have accents of pink throughout the entire house. I know once I decided to put the house on the market in 7-10 years. I’ll probably have to repaint the entire house white again but it’s total worth it.
Hollywood glam/Regency done right is gorgeous. It’s vintage, old Hollywood at its finest. It seems to me that someone with a giant clock as decor shouldn’t be critiquing others style choices.
Thrifting is not only a great way to recycle and help charity shops, it’s a great way to high quality stuff that is usually very unique. I have bought Victorian garnet and diamond jewelry and crystal from Waterford and Tiffany. It really changes your perspective when you shop and see what poor quality new items are.
The best way to fix glam is to remove all of it from the home, pile it on the back lawn, and set it ablaze. Redecorate with literally anything else. Thank you for attending my TED Talk.
as we get older there are certain things we do not care to look at in the mirror including our naked body walking from the bed to the bathroom and I could not no way to get a handle on that mirrored little cabinet there by the bed .tour right GODY IS the word WOW
I don’t think the gaudy is so BAD, but when it veers into Chanel and Louis Vuitton logos everywhere it’s just tacky in all the wrong ways. The mirrored furniture is really impractical, but this aesthetic can look great w Hollywood Regency, Art Deco or chinoiserie type furniture - preferably thrifted or vintage.
Many watch HGTV and get revved up- copying it to the letter! It would be better if someone would recognize their “style” and riff off it. I’m eclectic- so I know anything I’m willing to spend money on will work in my decor! Pick what you like and it will never go out of style bc you won’t fall for fads!
It's what poor people with no taste, THINK looks expensive, but actually looks really cheap - I love a good crafting DIY but the second I see those rolls of glittery rhinestones I'm out.
I call it the ROSS meets Home Goods specials.

Mirrored furniture is so, so beautiful when it is mixed with naturals - so pretty and inviting.
I love the look, but I've rarely seen mirrored furniture that doesn't have a cracked panel. That's expensive / complicated to fix.
Art deco is so luxurious and glamorous but also chic. I’d just stick to art deco!
Glam is Art Deco's devil-worshipping niece.
Niiiiick I need a private newsletter where you just send me all of these art deco finds, you’re killing me!

Awesome advice!
SO much great advice ALL in one video short!! WoW! 🎉
My 2013 bedroom has been CALLED OUT.
😂
Yes, glam was on point 10 years ago. How time flies.
I like glam but i added some nature to my home, woods and rattans are my vibe and i dont even know what that style is 😅
I think it's called.... "You Do You" 😊

Too much of anything can be bad for you. Small touches of glam-good, a room full of glam-bad. I really love the understated masculine glam style.
Sir...
This is my favorite aesthetic, and I will forever love it.
they could bring in some art deco pieces. They lean glam in a more classic way with some more shiny smaller pieces

Um…no to a lot of this.
agree

Lol, love listening to you!
Great advice
Imo, one of the main issues of glam is that the palette is super cold so it always looks like a tacky expensive hospital.
Or an eighteenth century mistress's boudoir.
@@LynetteMcGrathNo, those ladies had much better taste 😂
There are no rhinestones at my hospital lol
@@CreativeUsernameEh i guess you only visit the NHS 😂
Love glam!!
I cant deal with that many mirrored/glass surfaces 😂
Transform Glam by making it Hollywood Regency or Art Deco
Great advice! ❤
This is why I’m loving living alone. I want the pink, shiny glam!!!
Glam is pretty and feminine. I like the plants added with it
I use to love it now I love mixing wood and natural 😂so I was into that is all over Instagram Great video 👍👌

Guess you don’t love Las Vegas!😂
Anyone can love Las Vegas but I think most would agree it’s pretty gaudy. Nothing wrong with that- it’s Las Vegas!!
When has Las Vegas ever been glamorous.
Oof, I do hate this one! Love your tips. You always hit the nail on the head.

I originally thought you were asking for your audience to offer you advice about glam if they actually love it and want to pass on their enthusiasm.
Only Liberace could get away with that gaudy crap. 😂😂😂
I think the glam look is perfect… for my guest bedroom… even I don’t want guests to stay too long 😂
Hollywood glam/Regency done right is gorgeous. It’s vintage, old Hollywood at its finest. It seems to me that someone with a giant clock as decor shouldn’t be critiquing others style choices.
tbh I see the gawdy glam at store and I think of it as the collection in a section to select few to add for my personal home decor to blend in
That style would run me absolutely crazy. I could not live in there and keep my right mind
Glam is absolutely beautiful

The TJ Maxx/Home Goods style 😂
I agree😊

I love glam pieces in an industrial environment. Not the tacky bits, though…

Glam overload is tacky.
The first time I saw that dycrylic glass i thought it looked gaudy
The one place you should do what you love is your bedroom. It's your room a d no one else ever needs to see or approve it.

Less wood as the "solution" to everything Nick. Let people have their styles

Thus can’t be fixed
Glam is so high maintenance, too much cleaning, polishing, etc. What’s so glam about it? It’s fake and unrealistic, not for me😻
