I'm just reminded of that old saying: " I felt sad because I had no shoes ... until I met a man who had no class." The very fact that we know enough to subscribe to Nick's channel means we have hope. Of course I always Name Drop my fav designer. 😉
To those asking for more budget-friendly: the very first one has zero clutter, doesn’t even have window coverings it looks like, and Nick thinks the chairs are from Target. There is nothing that screams “money”! On to the next. Ok, all the way until 12:20 every space is basically Scandi-minimalist. There are no huge rooms in huge mansions, which I was expecting when I saw comments asking for more approachable homes. These are all doable!! 1) Declutter virtually everything 2) Thrift inspiration pieces. Voilà.
@mellocello187 I think every single furniture in no.4 is quite affordable pieces from Ikea. Wood finish on the walls can be a cheap option depending on the type of wood. But the windows and high ceilings are a bit much 💸
I love the commentary. It's so helpful to hear your insights. I don't always know what's making a space look great, so having you identify what's particularly working well in a space is invaluable.
I used to think they killed butterflies in those cases. NO! I was in Costa Rica at a butterfly house. They collect the dead ones and mount them. They only live a few weeks. I gave away my brother’s gorgeous framed mounted butterflies after he died, thinking the butterflies had been killed. After I learned how they are preserved in their gorgeous colors I wanted it back!
of course, I was going to say that. They don't kill them anymore since decades back, that would be unethical When in doubt about something, all it takes is a Google search.
The chosen spaces are gorgeous. Most are quite neutral, minimal and scandi in style. I think I'd like to see a video of "subscribers homes I don't actually love, because they are not my style, but are fabulous rooms to love anyway," I'd like to see more eclectic/bohemian/art deco/rustic rooms with more personality, colour and pattern. I think it's easier to pull off the neutral palette, minimalist, scandi style ,as furniture and accessories in this style are so readily available at good retailers.Mixing styles while injecting more colour, pattern and personal items is more difficult to get right, and I'd like to see spaces where subscribers have done it well.
Indian, Scandi, and Organic Modern Living Room were my faves. Congrats to all who were featured! Really enjoyed stepping into your spaces. Takes a lot of work to get our spaces just how we want them. 👏🏾😎
Please do not. Every home can be beautifully styled even on budget. The most important is the loving relationships with those with whom you share the home with 😊
😊Me too. Always loved big clocks...working or not. Multiple time pieces if you have 👤people👥️️ or traveled to cool 🏛places🏖 in other time zones around the world🌎 that you want to be reminded of every time your 👁👁glance falls on them. 😉Of course, I am a sentimental maximalist. For all his snarkiness, he's got some softness in there. This clock has nostalgia & continuity. 🤫His hanging it again shows he also has a touch of whimsy. ❤Loving Nick's new goatee. 😬Not a big mustache fan, but I don't mind a minimal one connected to a neatly trimmed beard. Adds extra interest to his familiar face. 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)
Real books, coloured bindings, eye candy galore! My pet peeve has always been beige book look. If you need it make some book covers but for crying out loud why would the masses turn their books backwards. My heart beat faster when I saw that bookcase.
Oh Nick, I could watch your videos all day. You’re such a treat. Really enjoyed your critique of these homes. Thanks for sharing your design expertise and impeccable taste with all of us!
I’d love to see you do with your subscribers who are renters. We are military, and I wish I had a fireplace, or able to have more than just boob lights(I hate them). I did do stick on tile for the kitchen which isn’t like “nice” per se but I love how it looks and make our boring base housing.
I like that you are giving your viewers some credit. I love the eggplant room! That ceiling medallion is da bomb! I would love to see them do something bold with paint or wallpaper on the ceiling around the medallion - maybe something to match the rug? People, I want to see more art, more colour, more, more! Bravo!
I would like to see some variety in style. They all seem the same to me. Certainly no Robert Kime influence in any of them. They are all so clean and neat, very calm. Good job.
yep, same with me. Just a couple really appealed to me. I need to see lots of patterns, color, unique, very personal pieces, lots of Boho elements like rugs. Most of these looked the same and kinda unfinished to me.
Wow it’s really fun to see other people’s spaces. I like a lot of what was shown, your subscribers are talented, sophisticated. I just want to see more color, art, and or print in general. Doesn’t have to be loud could just be one patterned pillow even. A beautiful large painting or print I think could be the cherry on top to a lot of these spaces too. Or like u said, making something that’s already there bigger.
The parquet floor room breaks a few rules you preach on. the furniture is pressed up against the walls and the rug is either too small or poorly placed.
Hi, I forgot your channel/name but wanted to refer to one of your videos about chairs, so I searched “Canadian interior design guy” and sure enough you were the first option. Hehe. Thank you for your wisdom my dude
This video is invaluable to those of us who are learning the general dos and don'ts of how to make a space look comfortable and beautiful. There were some obviously larger and "lifestyles of the rich and famous" type spaces (exaggeration), but many more "real" and accessible spaces that I can use to relate to my scale of decorating. Who knows...maybe one day I'll be able to send you some shots of my home : ) Thank you thank you thank you.
I'm glad you didn't carp about the wallpaper on the convetable office...its the warm enveloping paint including the ceiling that really takes this to something special
Thank you! I sent in my home photos and they don't come close to these beautiful homes. The best part of this Subscribers Home opportunity for me was the 3 or 4 videos you posted directly after asking for our photos. I learned so much more than i thought to ask.
Some beautiful spaces and well executed. Loved the wood in the arches. On a wider note I am sick to death of minimalist and mid century modern. It’s more HGTV overexposure. Give me warm and well appointed transitional or traditional. To each his own.
I would love to see more interesting places where they use more color. An accent color doesn't count as color either. Everything was so boringly beige and dreary green except the eggplant surrounded by browns. I would love to see some colorful funky spaces that are fun to be in. Who wants to be in a museum where nothing is personalized. Sorry to the owners who obviously love the washed-out design, it just isn't my thing.
Yep, especially the beige bedroom with the beige bed, beige dressers, beige everything. Not a lick of imagination in that one. Looks like a really drab boring hotel room, not someplace anybody really lives in.
Wow! Those homes are amazing. Ermagerd. Excellent job on keeping moving on the commentary. 👍😂 "Pop of colour." I occasionally say it accidentally and find a salt rinse or Listerine necessary. 😂😂
One of these days I will get the courage to send you some of my home pictures, all done by myself and my husband...come on courage...loved the last home, my colors and a pup in the mix...love, love.
there are 2 reasons why the wishbone chair is never overdone 1.although it's the designers favorite , you actually don't see it allover in private homes, and it's timeless
I feel like the back wall needs something or maybe change the angle of which you are filming. Something is off and I cant put my finger on it . ❤ your channel and your design advice!
I think that wood accent that was in his kitchen at the other house needs to be there, or a bookshelf of some sort, theres too much empty space so it looks unbalanced.
Stop it no you did not actually feature my home 🫢🫣❤thank you Nick! Yes those chairs are from Target. I’ll level them up one day when I have the funds but for now they’re actually really comfortable!
“Kill butterflies” LMAO. No, they are collected after deceased and are pinned and framed :) beautiful creatures. Totally not weird if you are into anything whimsical or have a background in biology, ecology, and or entomology of course :)
Some of these demonstrate how the minimalist look does not work when it comes to leaving walls bare. Bare walls may work if there is interesting architecture, but these bare walls are screaming for some decor/art.
Great video, absolutely lovely homes, BUT, poor me, I live in a builder grade tract home. I have added upgrades and would love a video showing what can be done with a 1500 square ft home. Thanks Nick. You're the best😊
I love these positive videos! I hope you do this again, because we are in the middle of a reno( i.e. no kitchen, washing dishes in the shower), but would love to be included a future episode!
Most of my windows have blinds but no curtains. Combination of allergies and visual impairment, I don’t need dust and I do need lots of natural light. 😅
This style of video is so helpful to me, please do more, I do not like looking at magazines because there is not commentary, what's right/wrong/what could be better, please do more
Hey! Just discovered your channel, your opinion on the Noguchi coffee table intrigued me, especially since I wanted to buy it. you mentioned other interesting tables in this price range, I would love to see a video about what tables you had in mind. best regards, good job !
😆 I was waiting for my floorlamp to arrive to send you my space, been trying to implement everything I've learned from all your videos 😅. Guess I'll make the next "Roast my home" or if lucky the next "Personal Faves" ❤
Hey, Nick! Love your videos!! And I'd really appreciate some help on one of your favorite subjects: lighting!! I recently moved into my first house and it's a somewhat open layout where you move from entryway to office corner to dining room to living room. It wraps around so you can only see the next space in line, but its 4 overheads and an additional wall sconce in the living room that all need to be different to define the "rooms" but still vibe together as it's technically one, flowing space. Ive been stumped for months!! HELP!!!
have you made a video on window treatments? I'm having so much trouble figuring out what to do, I still have the previous owners curtains. I want something that looks beautiful but at the same time I have to consider the option of blocking out sunshine (I live in Phoenix AZ so sunlight is no joke) but curtains that block sunlight can appear so heavy. I also wonder if blinds would work better. help!
I did love this spin. Good to know what not to do via roast but really love getting ideas of what to do without having to watch a thinly veiled Amazon ad like other UA-camrs do
Everything just gives the same vibes. Is it that only people who match the dominant trend are the majority of people who submit? Nice gowns, lovely gowns, as Queen Aretha would say, but where are the houses that growl, run that bridge, climb the octaves, and gives that high note life?
Please do another but with low budget homes. It will give the majority hope for a nice space too.
We many adoring minions who live in humble houses second that!
I'm just reminded of that old saying: " I felt sad because I had no shoes ... until I met a man who had no class." The very fact that we know enough to subscribe to Nick's channel means we have hope. Of course I always Name Drop my fav designer. 😉

Seriously, expecting him to NOT comment or provide constructive criticism is hilarious. 😂
It wouldn’t be him if he didn’t comment. 😂😂😂

wow, I thought they killed them too

Having received one as a gift, I feel much better now. I wasn’t sure if it was killed for this, but knowing that it wasn’t is a relief! 🦋

Hey Nick. Hey people. Happy to see the clock! After watching this I feel very poor.
Me too!
That "indian" home was seriously next level. The details and cohesion were crazy
Same
😂😂😂😭 yeah same
Please do not. Every home can be beautifully styled even on budget. The most important is the loving relationships with those with whom you share the home with 😊
7:13 and the kitty looks so warm and fuzzy - he adds texture!
That last one with the puppy, even he's working with the colour palette - oatmeal!
I’m so glad to see the clock back! Love your videos, advice and of course humor! ❤
It's 12:20. I know where I am now. 😄
The clock is big ugly and boring, I don't see the appeal.
😊Me too. Always loved big clocks...working or not. Multiple time pieces if you have 👤people👥️️ or traveled to cool 🏛places🏖 in other time zones around the world🌎 that you want to be reminded of every time your 👁👁glance falls on them.

This is a great video. I am here for YOUR opinion, so I LOVE how unapologetic you are. 😊
Real books, coloured bindings, eye candy galore! My pet peeve has always been beige book look. If you need it make some book covers but for crying out loud why would the masses turn their books backwards. My heart beat faster when I saw that bookcase.
I think that one bottom shelf has a Calvin and Hobbes Complete Collection. Bought one at Costco many, many moons ago.
Oh Nick, I could watch your videos all day. You’re such a treat. Really enjoyed your critique of these homes. Thanks for sharing your design expertise and impeccable taste with all of us!
Also that couch is hundred percent for taking breaks and naps between working as well as for dogs to sleep while you work!
The one with the Hudson Bay blanket is more personal. The blanket is the perfect touch. It’s not so typical.
Loved this video! The very best accessory is the happy-looking little dog in the last home.
I’d love to see you do with your subscribers who are renters. We are military, and I wish I had a fireplace, or able to have more than just boob lights(I hate them). I did do stick on tile for the kitchen which isn’t like “nice” per se but I love how it looks and make our boring base housing.
I just made a wallpaper moment in my kitchen and it looks brighter and more inviting.
also, I LOVE parquet flooring. it’s WOOD.
I like that you are giving your viewers some credit. I love the eggplant room! That ceiling medallion is da bomb! I would love to see them do something bold with paint or wallpaper on the ceiling around the medallion - maybe something to match the rug? People, I want to see more art, more colour, more, more! Yes, more color, more more, but Nick is a minimalist, love him anyway. 😂

Hello I'm watching from Sweden and Hemmavidvattnet is swedish for at home by the water. Beautiful

love your vids!!!!
The Bay blankets could be Pendleton blankets. Timeless and gorgeous!
Gorgeous homes. I loved them all.
indian and organic modern are my favorites here
The best things about this video were the clock, Nick, the ONE walk with color, and the number of times Nick said, „ love. „😂
Hi. A butterfly under glass? My heart beats for my entomologist🦋Dad!
This inspires me to consciously design my home
Some beautiful spaces and well executed. Loved the wood in the arches. On a wider note I am sick to death of minimalist and mid century modern. It’s more HGTV overexposure. Give me warm and well appointed transitional or traditional. To each his own.

Excuse me sir, you forgot the obligatory compliment for the cute pup.
I have a new ambition. Nick getting excited about my interior decorating.
*sobs in her rented basement* Can we do a super budget version so I can join in? 😂
It's interesting that absolutely none of these are my style at all, but they still look interesting to me.
Not one of the homes are a style I like. I'm so over MCM and Scandi...ugh enough already. But, I love you Nick and value your opinion 😊
real artwork is missing from many of these homes. Support the arts!!
🦋 🦋 😮😂.
Awesome homes. Kudos if Nick thinks you had an iinterior designer- such a compliment!
Super extra credit for the eggplant walls!
Love that sweater Nick it shows the olive tones in your skin 😄💙😄

exactly
Ceiling medallions should be a builders standard. Everyone deserves to live in a home with ceiling medallions.
Our clock is back! I probably didn’t notice it in the previous videos if it was there… love our clock!!
Some of these demonstrate how the minimalist look does not work when it comes to leaving walls bare. Bare walls may work if there is interesting architecture, but these bare walls are screaming for some decor/art.
Enjoyed seeing the amazing homes!
FYI Pendleton and LL Bean make a very similar HBC inspired throw
Great video, absolutely lovely homes, BUT, poor me, I live in a builder grade tract home. I have added upgrades and would love a video showing what can be done with a 1500 square ft home. Thanks Nick. You're the best😊
I assure you we don't all have beautiful spaces lol. My house is too small to be anything more than utilitarian.
there are many videos on YT about very small places with few items but lots of quirky, original, fun elements.
OK, but did you notice the cute little dog in the last house? Adding some extra warmth and texture to the space :)
I love these positive videos! I hope you do this again, because we are in the middle of a reno( i.e. no kitchen, washing dishes in the shower), but would love to be included a future episode!
Very cute rooms and livable spaces.
One day I’ll be proud enough of my own home to send pictures ❤
Nick sometimes I call up your channel and listen without looking at the video because I love voice! 😘
Most of my windows have blinds but no curtains. Combination of allergies and visual impairment, I don’t need dust and I do need lots of natural light. 😅
3rd one is stunning omds
For me the blank walls that recur make many of these rooms seem incomplete.
yes, some stroke me as unfinished.

Pop of color, pop of color😂😂😂
Great video!
Next time you should say their names and also their locations- would make it more interesting!!
Yeah, he only mentioned nr. 4. It is nice to add more nice accounts to follow on instagram for inspiration.
Yay the clock ⏱️🪞is back🎉
Nick on a Tuesday. Just what we all needed. I love this video for spaces you actually like.🧔♂️
I have never been this early 🥹
Never been this early. I love your videos and your sass!!
Hi Nick! Relatively new fan with a request/question! Could you give some advice on window treatments? Especially for smaller windows?
I think he has some videos about it.
A pitchfork centrepiece. 😂
Hey, Nick!
Love your videos!! And I'd really appreciate some help on one of your favorite subjects: lighting!!
I recently moved into my first house and it's a somewhat open layout where you move from entryway to office corner to dining room to living room. I think he does have videos about the topoc.
It's that time again! 🤣
Love your show
One day I will finish my living room and send it in, I love seeing people's homes!
Please make another video with stylish but lower end/affordable styled subscriber homes.
Also please ask them to share links for key products
Parquet flooring one looks like an old apartment in São Paulo
We have chairs like the first video from Zara Home
Maisons du monde, La Redouté, etc...😉
It’s amazing what you can do with $10m home, an interior designer, and professional photography
Would you say the rug in the Farmhouse Adjacent bedroom really ties the room together? 😏
I am surprised you didn't say anything about the glass tables.
Especially the DINING table! Just no.
I did love this spin. Good to know what not to do via roast but really love getting ideas of what to do without having to watch a thinly veiled Amazon ad like other UA-camrs do
I can't imagine my super colorful, tightly packed, squishmallow infested room would get so much praise hahaha!
Everything just gives the same vibes. Is it that only people who match the dominant trend are the majority of people who submit?
Nice gowns, lovely gowns, as Queen Aretha would say, but where are the houses that growl, run that bridge, climb the octaves, and gives that high note life?
This is to this designer's taste, so that is what he shows.
When would you make the next video commenting on your followers' homes? Because I would love to send you some photos of my home. 😊
*The Bay* is a Canadian staple since 1670.
I am very poor, this video proves it.
Don’t be ashamed. Even a small budget has room for creativity.
“almond mom” 😂
