About Gold Shaw Farm: Gold Shaw Farm is more of a farm-in-progress than an honest-to-goodness farm. Our dream is that someday we are able to transform our 150+ acre parcel of land into a regenerative and productive homestead and farm.
The little gosling you are worried about and showed (at minute 3). The shape and look of the eyes is niacin deficiency. I know you are doing a lot to add niacin to their diet, but if she is struggling to get to the food or water she still may not be getting enough, especially if she is bottom of the pecking order. When I see these symptoms (wobbly legs, narrow head, almost bug eyed - the eyes are the real tell - , and/or not growing like the others), I get an oral syringe, make up a water and brewers yeast mix (one capsule or tablet [crushed] or 1/8 tsp to about 1/4 cup water) and then syringe it down their throat. I do this every 15 minutes for an hour and see if there is then any improvement in mobility and perkiness. If it is acute deficiency you will see improvement quickly this way and can then continue to assist until the gosling looks like the others. Good luck!
I was literally just saying to my husband how the comments on Morgan's videos are overwhelmingly positive and helpful, even when they're telling him about something he should do differently, and this is a perfect example. 🥰
Morgan will be grateful
Commenting so he can see
@@lexica510 Thank you. That is very kind to read. I keep a small flock of ducks, all raised from eggs (though not in an incubator). We have lost some ducklings to niacin deficiency and saved more over the years. We put niacin in the food too, but sometimes they are just too weak to get enough of what they need. I love Mogan's videos. He tells such lovely stories and informs us all. Anything that can help in return... :-)
Out of curiosity, are you experienced with ducks?
GET A SMOKER FOR YOUR BEE KEEPING! It calms the bees down when you are visiting them!
yeah
This.
To be clear - smoker does not calm them down... smoker signals them to run and suck in as much honey as they can so they are prepared to vacate the hive, since smoke=fire in their minds. Bee with full belly can’t bent, so it can’t sting. Same happens with migrating swarm - bees travel with full bellies and only some do any damage (guards).
@@Shyska Thank you for that info- I have always wondered why smoking them worked. It makes sense now.
@@Shyska The above is true, but smoke also interferes with the pheromones bees communicate with; The alarm signals aren't received by all the hive.
And to think those adorable little fluff balls are going to grow into terrifying hissing biting geese with crazy alien teeth. Gotta love them now while you can.
Always a fun bonus to have an Allison guest appearance!
Hey, I just wanted to mention that you have a great personality and a good attitude. I respect your ideals and how you treat your animals, you've made some mistakes in your past, but mistakes are human and as long as you're learning from them, they aren't really a bad thing.
The way you edit your videos is also really entertaining and enjoyable, which is kind of unexpected, at least for me. I don't mean it in a bad way, but since you're having your own farm, one wouldn't expect you to also have great video editing skills, since they're two complete different things.
It might also be interesting for you to know that I am actually from the capital of germany. I have no clue how I've found your channel, but I've been watching your videos for a couple of months now and they bring me joy. It's nice to see beautiful landscapes and happy animals.
I wish you, your wife and your animals all the best. May your future plans succeed. I am looking forward to more great videos. :)
I love how he edits his videos too!
@Arjan Mann I am not really used to writing comments, but when I do, I like to give constructive feedback.

@@thelegendofbob5276 what an absolutely adorable comment ❤️
Hey im also from Germany. Im still wondering how i found this Channel but im happy about it either way :)
That was such a sweet moment watching your wife holding those goslings. She was so happy. That was awesome to see. I hope this doesn't come off as creepy. I don't mean for it to.
I agree. Our glimpses of her are so few and far between because of her demanding career that when we do it's amazing to see her soft, caring demeanor. She's an absolute gem and should be protected at all costs.
Allison is one of the sweetest people I've seen on UA-cam. She just seems to have the biggest heart. ❤ Morgan is a lucky man to have married such a wife. 💕
Shhh! A lesser spotted Allison. Don't spook her. They look so pretty this time of year in their flannel.
Yes and not everyone knows these days that dandelions are nutritious and used to be eaten a lot in America in the past.
I just learned that you can pickle the roots and they taste fantastic!
What is good for us, isn't always good for animals. But dandelions are pretty good. But something like spinach, it is only ok occasionally because it can block bone development.

4:21 A wild Allison appears! it's always a pleasure to see her in a Gold Shaw Farm video.
I share Alison's clear delight at the sight of the goslings. "The world is so big and wonderful" - it's lovely to be reminded of that.
Allison is so absolutely beautiful ... You can see the beauty radiating through her eyes. You sir, are a lucky guy.
Greetings Morgan & Allison, from Montpellier, France.
I just loved seeing Allison's warm, loving smile when handling the baby goslings. Your channel is not only extemely informative, but a complete joy and treasure to watch.
Chapeau to Gold Shaw Farm. Lisa
The way your wife was smiling while holding the baby geese was so sweet! She seems like a truly lovely woman
Damn you bred so many golden chocobocos!
I got my first RSI grinding for that darn Golden Chocobo! 😄
Allison's actions are tender and kind beautiful. Great job Morgan and Allison.🌻🌹
I have no prior experience, but maybe you should take note of the placement of the eggs that actually hatch. Maybe the ones closer to the wall get too hot/too cold, or the ones in the middle don't get enough rotation. Idk just an idea
Certainly a viable theory to Test. The temperature of the egg at the moment they go in might be another variable. This may give clues to how long from when they hatch to when you put them in the incubator.
This is my theroy, too.
They all get the same rotation, position on the trays doesn’t matter for that. The cabinet is designed to maintain consistent temperature throughout by circulating the air.
@@scottcampbell96 That would usually be true BUT the incubator he uses was initially designed for chicken eggs, and since geese eggs are much bigger this may cause unexpected issues with the incubator.
Not necessarily with temperature, but rotation on the other hand...
@@RoulicisThe if the eggs aren’t slipping around, they all get the same rotation. The only difference is vertical translation, which does not affect the eggs. Since he seems to be packing them so they don’t roll around, the size of the eggs doesn’t matter.
I am so impressed how you have the ducks trained to go to bed when you call them. Goes to show just how consistent you are and the trust they have for their home. Lovely 😊
Yori Lamaz - There is at least one video devoted to training the ducks. It is very funny and informative.
I always think if I was on the neighboring farm I would giggle every evening when I heard Morgan's duckie night night bellow echoing thru the woods 🤣

Hi Morgan, your Allison is expressing the joy many of us commenters feel about the goslings. Allison always handles the animals so gently. Your channel is the best! You made the right choice of following your dreamanother good choice of sharing the farm with us.
Goldshaw Farms: I'm going to tell you about the birds and the bees!
Goldshare Farms begins to show actual birds and bees.
Hahahahaha
The best thing about your bare honesty is that we all learn volumes more from our mistakes than we do successes. I see all the mistakes I would make if I decided to try the farm life. Getting ready for when the kids decide they want to unplug and start a family farm.
Morgan the wild duck are just all the drakes on holiday whilst their females are hatching so your farms being a resort for the until the ladies are out again.
I caught myself smiling so big when they had those babies outside!! I was like "you're a grown ass woman watching a farm video at 2:15am on a Saturday, laying here just cheesing over some fricken baby goslings! Note to self: time to work on getting a life" But the babies are so stinking cute! And the fact that this man can tell "ALL DUCKS GO TO BED" twice and they ACTUALLY DID IT!! I'm totally blown away and seriously respect the hell out of his training abilities!! You, your wife, and all your fluffy, and feathery friends are awesome and I'm very grateful for all your videos! You help me out more than you know and I wish you all nothing but the very best!! Sending lots of love and light your way! God Bless
I love how in awe Alison is near the baby goslings, You Can Tell She's a big animal lover
the pure happiness radiating off of Allison is infectious!
I love watch Alison with the babies. She is such a beautiful sweet lady. You both are a beautiful couple. Love your channel so much.
Run free volunteer goslings! Soon enough the rest of your siblings will follow you two, running around the pasture 😍😍💙
He might eat a few
wow Pablo comes when called that is a well mannered gentleman
I respect Alison for a number of reasons (my mom has been a nurse for 32 years), and I respect that she does not want to be in every video. At the same time I must say whenever Alison is in a video I am always left wanting more :P She does so well with the goslings, etc. Hope we get another garden tour this year! Maybe with the main contributor giving some insight, if she is comfortable of course! 😁
When you candle the goose eggs you take them all out at once. Aren't you worried about them coming down in temperature? Your egg shed is something like 20 degrees colder than the incubator, I wonder if the temperature drop on the eggs is affecting the hatch rate?
The baby goslings looks so good! ❤️❤️❤️
looking at baby animal? Great start to my Saturday!
Alison. Your reaction to the goosings filled my heart with love. I've had a hard time lately so I would like to thank you. Joshua
Awww, your goslings are the cutest things ever!!!!!! 🥰❤️
Your wife had the look of pure joy! This haching is a success just because of the joy it brought her. :)
Your wife has the most beautiful smile. She’s beautiful!
You have a beautiful soul, your wife has a crystal clean soul. Take good care of this crystal
Gold Shaw Farm should definitely get an "Daily Channel"! So you can use your unused footage!
Even just daily shorts would work very well.
I think this channel takes up enough of his time as is
@@ryang9973 I’m sure that that is true, but as the saying goes “leave them wanting more”. Still would like to see more…that’s a good thing, lol. Oh, wasn’t saying you were saying otherwise. What you said just brought that saying to my mind.

Hi....... Morgan nice to see you, thank you for sharing your video homestead 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 🎥👍👍👍
Allison is the perfect wife for you, she does such a great job with the little chickies
My experience hatching eggs is with chickens so there may be differences but I was taught to get the eggs into the incubator as soon as possible after they were laid. You seem to be holding them for days at room temp. I guess that is working but maybe that is part of why your eggs are aborting so frequently?
Agreed.
That's what I was thinking. In a house, with variant temps, and not nearly warm enough. The ones actually hatching are probably the last eggs laid. Penciling a 'laid date' on the shell would help in figuring out if that is part of the problem.
@@GoldenLion8 But his hatch rate is so abysmal (a dozen out of 50+?), lock down might not even be an issue if the things already go bad 2 weeks into incubation.
@@GoldenLion8 I agree with you as someone that hatches eggs that I've collected over a few days. When you're collecting eggs to hatch you do have to remember that keeping them at a cooler temperature and moving them everyday will help them not stick to the egg later. I've even managed to hatch eggs that I've had for 2 weeks but of course you just get lucky sometimes.
@@GoldenLion8 Tracking each egg is trivial. Sharpies exist. And the natural way for chicken eggs, which is where my experience lies, is for them to never spend more than a few minutes out from under the hen.
My experience incubating chicken eggs was I had 90+% success. Morgan is having 20 to 25%. He's doing something badly wrong or geese just flat have a terrible success rate.
Hey Morgan, Patrick here.
I saw your last video but I thought others would tell you, but I think they didn't, so I wanna tell you :) To hatch geese it's not that easy with putting them in the incubator and just let them sit there for 28 days and than make them ready for hatch. Cool the eggs off, from day 5-27, 30min a day, put them out of the incubator and just let them sit there, ducks and geese eggs need that cooling time to be viable and be strong to hatch out of the egg or develop. Also before putting them into the incubator again, spray them with warm water. If you sometimes can't do it because others are hatching, it's not a big deal if you don't do it for 3 or 4 days but not doing at all will give you really bad hatch rate sadly. You doing better than last year with keeping the incubator closed while hatching but opening while rotating is more important :) also a friend told me that if you put the eggs first in salt water or something like that for a certain time, they also will hatch better, but I could ask her again about what exactly. Also just to make sure, Beginn with around 60% humidity and for hatch about 90%. The eggs who are not ready for hatch won't be really effected by a few days with higher humidity. If you want to reach your goal with 150 gooslings put on your incubator from last year as well and start cooling off the eggs and spray them with warm water, I hope it will work for you and you will get way better hatching results
Greetings from Germany, your loyal fan, Patrick 🤗😊
Thanks, patrick!

Hi Allison great to see you with the fuzzy goslings.....tee
Oh my 🤗🤗🤗🤗 this little ones are soooooo cute💞💞💞💞
This video is better than watching any movie in the world 🌎
It was a steep learning curve for me and I am no expert-first season hatching. From one goose, I could only get about 4 eggs into my incubator at a time. Turned the eggs buy hand 180 3 times a day until lock down. I did the schedule of taking the eggs out. Spraying with water lightly and cool once a day until lock down, 10 minutes at 10 days until 15 minutes at 15 days and then started 20 minutes at 20 days. Lockdown at 26 days. Occasionally I sprayed eggs. all water was distilled to prevent algae and such. I did staggered hatches too and it worked well. Out of 13 eggs we had 2 no development and one last minute fail, 10 hatched and are doing great. Humidity is key for us as our house is very dry. Hope your next hatch is amazing!
Hi Morgan. Last year I've set a lot of eggs in the incubator and had a lot of chicks and ducklings fully developed dying in shell. I found out later that the eggs weren't losing weight properly during the incubation 'cause the humidity was way too high and that slightly lowering the temperature at the 3 final days would help encouraging the chicks and ducklings to hatch. I got better results after fixing all of it.
I wish you all the best for the next batch of eggs you'll be hatching
Maybe you and Coghill Farm , Mary Carl , the chicken master " & water fowl". should have a talk about hatching . Love your videos , they are very good.
Allison is back great to see you
The baby goslings really took off out side! They look invincible 🤩 I think taking them out brightened them up and made them stronger 🐥 Hi Alison It’s so good to see you! I’m really looking forward to seeing what you do in your raised garden this year 😃 xoxo for Toby ❣️
i love tucking the ducks in! 'all ducks, go to bed' sweet!
You should get a pump for your pond to help stop mosquitos and attract dragonflies. Wrap it in cheese cloth. It will help keep it running longer underwater. Jim built a wire chicken mesh cage to go around his pump then we used floral wire to tack the cheesecloth around the wire mesh. Worked great.
Maybe grab a smoker for when you go out to the hives. Wood chips or ground cover for fuel will do.
Pablo is a busy kitty 😸

Hi Morgan & Alison it really nice to see u again Alison plz make sure the videos longer ty
How cute are they!!! Allison is in heaven!!!
Me seeing the lady's share their nest: THEY ARE IN LOVE
You've been collecting up a week's worth of eggs, and putting them into the incubator in big batches. Perhaps the eggs need to go directly from under the mother to the incubator the same day so they don't get cold. Where do you keep them in the interim? You could write the date they were laid on the eggs for tracking. It may improve your hatching success rate.
Cog Hil puts her goose eggs in the incubator same day they are hatched. They have a good hatch rate. They also don't place as many eggs in one tray. I don't think your incubator can handle the large load on it.
@@lylskeets I'm definitely not an expert, but I agree. We used to hatch parrots, and it was critical that the eggs absorb water. I wonder if the eggs are too crowded for adequate absorption. I would guess??? that waterfowl eggs would have a higher humidity requirement than chicken eggs, and wonder if the brooder has settings for different types of eggs?
@@lylskeets Do you mean, same day they are laid ?
You did say hatched and I am easily confused.

i have a cat named mars and he's also the only cat to come to me when i call him! its so cute
That is some awesome looking dirt. I was at my camp this weekend, as was a cousin. She has befriended all kinds of birds - to include some cat birds. I was telling her about your "All ducks go to bed" and that she needed to start watching you to train her cat birds. She yelled "All birds go to bed" - - and all was quiet - - You gave us a big laugh
That from the Despicable Me scene to the moving tractor at 5:56 was absolute money. So smooth! Well done!
I noticed a startling sudden green-ness going on in the last few videos - you had a winter revisit with snow and cold - then the video after that 'bang!' sudden green and spring and verdant - it's been lovely to see everything turning beautiful. Those little babas are about the cutest little things eva!
I love my feathered puppies, as I call them. 🥰❤
Allison is so sweet! Can't wait to see her garden this year. A tip, I used 6x6 railroad ties around the outside of my garden fence to keep animals out and to use less line on the weed whacker (wire fence just eats it up as you probably know) With todays wood prices, you could use some cedar logs.
Morgan, with the little weak gosling I have a suggestion. My Avian Vet (I have parrots) was on a show called The Barn. It is a rescue facility in Manchester, Michigan. They had some ducks there and one wasn’t walking very well. She prescribed that the employees put the little guy in a small container of water and require him to do some “water therapy” every day. The water makes it a non-weight bearing but certainly range of motion exercise. It really helped the little guy. Just a suggestion. Love your vids.
They don't have oil on their feathers yet, they have no mom to put her oil on them so until they get real feathers, they can't get wet.
@@candidethirtythree4324 I appreciate the words. I did not know the order of the oil production being from Mom first and eventually their own. And I didn’t know the gosling doesn’t have oil yet. I never thought of it. Thanks for taking the time to reach out about this. When Dr. O suggested the therapy the duck wasn’t covered in down but regular feathers. GBY and your family. 🤗🙏🦜
