    Watching your videos is getting expensive. I've bought a ZV E10, Sigma 16 f1.4, a full cage and accessories for it, a Weebill 3E, and today i placed an order for a bunch of F38 mounts.. All after watching your videos. So if my wife asks about the bills... I'm telling her it's your fault.

    Your Arca démonstration at the beginning completely works on the Peak Design… you just have to remove the two mini black screws, it’s made for that.

    Thanks Mark for this video and your HONESTY when disclosing you got this tripod for free. What puzzles me is you don''t mention any DISADVANTAGES of this tool. In reality, nothing is perfect. My 2 reservations about this tripod is its payload of ONLY 5kg /11lbs when using with Ulanzi ball head as stated on their website. Therefore, it will be tough for me to use a super telephoto lens with this such as Sigma 60-600mm f4.5-6.3. The lens itself weights 2.5kg/5.5lbs! If I don't use the Ulanzi ball head, the payload will be 10kg/22lbs.
    The other resevation is the twist lock disadvantage. A couple of other UA-cam reviewers state that flip locks are better because when they get loose, they can be tightened using a screw driver. On the other hand, when the twist locks get loose, you can't fix it by yourself and the tripod can't properly support your camera any more.

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  5 місяців тому +8

      Only the ball head load is rated as 5kg. The tripod column when full extended can take 10 kg (if you’re weighing it down) and 20kg not extended. But when it comes to the load capacity of the ball head being 5kg - the 60-600 is about as big of a lens as you can get and you’ll still have 2.5kg left for a camera. A big Canon R3 is only 1.1 kg, so you could still load up a cage and a mic and more with that sigma 60-600. Pretty reasonable amount of weight. In regards to the twist locks, many pros prefer twist locks because they are sturdier and can be removed to be cleaned. You often can not take apart flip locks. Some tripods that cost thousands of dollars use twist locks. Crazy expensive Gitzo tripods use twist locks. The best of the best. UA-camrs saying flip locks are better are misinformed. It depends on the quality of lock. Ulanzi also guarantees the product. But I’m glad you brought these things up as it’s something I think the would help the audience in my future tripod vids. I think the disadvantages of this tripod come down to there being other lighter and smaller options for travel tripods and it’s more expensive than some other travel tripods. I mentioned these things.

    We use several PD tripods. Have also tried Ulanzi tripods.
    No matter how awesome the Ulanzi is, when an issue comes up with our PD tripods. All we have to do is let PD customer service know and we get a new or similar tripod. With Ulanzi, you do not get that kind of customer service. So at $400, you'll be spending the same everytime the tripod breaks. With the PD tripod, it's a lifetime warranty. Ulanzi just give you 1 year.

It's much more solid & heavier than I thought it would be but to be honest I'm going to be mounting a Nikon Z8 on it outdoors so the last thing I want is for it to blow over. Honestly you get what you pay for, this is a PREMIUM-top of the range-product with a price to match but in reality is worth every penny and some...

    Checking on the TreeRoot head compatibility with the Peak Design Proplate Manfrotto RC2 + Arca-Type Compatible Quick Release Plate.
    I started with the very first release of the Coleman and Ulanzi travel tripod that didn't have the quick release option available. After a recent trip where my camera, with the previously mentioned Peak Design quick release plate fitted, fell of the Coleman & Ulanzi tripod twice I decided to order the updated Ulanzi head with the quick release head. Turns out, that updated Ulanzi quick release head does not accept any of my AcraSwiss type plates. So, I'm thinking maybe it is upgrade time, but, I need to know if the Peak Design Manfrotto RC2 + Acra type quick release plates will fit on the new TreeRoot. Bonus if you happen to have the Peak Design Micro Anchor tab attached to the quick release plates for testing fitment - as they can make fitting the camera to any AcraSwiss mount that bit more difficult. (The reason for using this particular quick release plate is that it is the only one I have found that supports both AcraSwiss and Manfrotto RC2. My favourite head is the Manfrotto pistol grip, and that works great as an RC2 head, but, my travel tripods are mostly ArcaSwiss mounts. So, having the quick release plate that fits both mounts is really helpful for me).
    Thanks,

    Peak Design has been hinting at a refresh for their tripod, it's painful that I'm gonna have to wait for it to compare...
    The biggest drawback for the Ulanzis in my opinion is the folded height and girth. That and if this Treeroot thingy had had lever locks or a lever variant for faster setup I would almost be convinced to get it for a bit of heavier duty convenience...

    I don't understand if "travel" tripods are designed for instances where you are literally traveling (meaning there are serious trade offs made in favor of portability) or are they good enough for any time you're filming outside a studio? I carry a manfrotto video tripod to church every Sunday to film for social clips. It's large and in charge with a smooth fluid head and has a carrying bag. I am generally filming at or near 180mm and tracking a moving subject (I do have image stabilization to assist). Are these premium travel tripods competitive with full size tripods?

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  5 місяців тому +1

      A video tripod with a fluid head meant for big cameras and cinemas cameras are a bit of a different animal. But this travel tripod here is perfect in pretty much and situation with a regular mirrorless camera where you aren’t trying to use video features like live panning and tilting. I own some heavy duty fluid head tripods for big video shoots, but I only use travel tripods otherwise for both travelling and in the studio because they are smaller, and lighter and plenty sturdy.

    The more tripods I use it just seems you cant fight physics and a heavier tripod is always gonna be more sturdy, you really have to decide how much weight you want to carry(also depends on the photography/videography your doing as well). I currently have the Heipi 3-in-1 Travel Tripod, its decently sturdy buts its very light but for what I like to do its not heavy/sturdy enough. I also gotta say its center column system is terrible if you get any sand in it and the collar to extent the center column sucks, constantly wants to cross thread. I don't recommend it, especially for the price.

    Have been in the market for a travel tripod for a long time...still haven't found one that comes close to me leaving my old Gitzo 2540 behind. Any tripod that cannot easily accept Arca Swiss is a definite non-starter for me, I just have too many A-S mounts to buy into a proprietary system. I realize some of these can also adapt to Peak Design plates, but I have no desire for a PD tripod either. So its 'keep looking' for me.

    WOW thanks for introducing us ;) in all seriousness though we all as consumers should not accept anything other than pure perfection products rather than half assed products with proprietary crap that waste money and time and resources! be very critical and hard on companies to inspire only the best to produce stuff! (EDIT) you sound a bit bias about the sturdiness of it plus the twist lock if you ask anyone it is less reliable than the flip locks... plus its not a superior desing since i have to twist each leg 3-5 times to get a desired hight instead of 1 per leg or hopfully just 1 per the whole thing!

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis

  • @chrissetter

    The original Ulanzi tripod was unusable since it had HUGE amounts of play in the center column. I’ve even added 3 thousands of an inch shims to snug up where it clamps down and it wasn’t enough. It would cause issues where if I were to change the shutter speed, it would shift the position of the camera. So using a remote would not solve the issue. My work requires photoshopping multiple exposures together.
    I really hope they took this new iteration more seriously and removed all play within the center collumn. I would love to use this for my professional photography since I travel to multiple locations and average 30 - 40 flights of stairs a day.

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  4 місяці тому +1

      This is really solid with no play when tightened. It's actually not from Ulanzi but Falcam, who designed the entire tripod. They do see in the Ulanzi store though.

      @@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Nice, thanks for elaborating!
      I use Falcam mounts for everything! The only thing they’re missing are anti twist/NATO screws for their F38 like they have on their F22 QRs. And a F22 - V Mount would be amazing.

    Peak Design is clearly smaller, important for me if I carry it in a small daypack or easily put it in an airline overhead compatible roller bag. I stopped using center columns (including my Peak Design) since even “sturdy” columns are vibration prone compared to no column. I also own a carbon fiber Peak Design, a couple tripod options for very low work, and a Leofoto 284CEX with a leveling head, very useful for quick head leveling without fussing with legs and plenty tall for me since I am just 5’8”. Anyway, interesting, unique design ideas. Kinda copied PD with the triangular leg profile.

      peak design packs up shorty than both the f38 tripods in this video. it’s heavier he thicker than the Ulanzi f38, but the Peak is smaller in every way compared to this new TreeRoot. Peak were definitely the innovator in the space and I’d love to see an update to the original tripod.
