Center column of this tripod is made of aluminum, not plastic. The column itself is pretty sturdy, but the plastic sleeve through which the column slides up and down is rather loose and cannot hold the column rock solid. Peak Design tripod has a similar center column, but is noticeably more rigid when extended.
Instead of purchasing a whole separate quick release head, you can purchase the Falcam F38 quick release mount that is Arca Swiss compatible and just attach it to the base of your tripod head. Ulanzi makes a single plate that is compatible with peak design and the F38 quick release system.
That was my other route as well! Thinking of changing my whole system to the quick release set which includes gimbal plate and action cams in the future. Thanks for the reminder!
@@CurtisAlvaro I’m a fan of the F38 quick release system. I even use the Ulanzi F38 shoulder strap mount attached to my Peak Design Slide strap. It’s nice to quickly switch from strap to tripod or to PD Capture Clip. I JUST purchase the Zero Y today, and I’m using the setup I just described. It works well, while still giving you the options for straight Arca Swiss.
Hey! Any thoughts on the tripod now that you've been using it for a few months? Also, found this video when searching for feedback on using this tripod with plates as I also own the same camera and plate and had to return the fotopro xaircross 3 as it would not hold onto the camera when shooting vertically. Great video, keep it up!
Eyo! Now that I've had it for a really long time, I still love the ease of use. I have multiple plates (peak design plate, arca Swiss for a rotating plate) and its nice to use multiple with same head. Still debating I had the quick release system since I switch to a gimbal a lot with the camera. Will do an updated video soon!
@@CurtisAlvaro thanks for the reply and looking forward to the video. By plate I meant the L Bracket, sorry for not being clear enough. When using it on a vertical orientation did you ever had any issues?
No problem man! I usually double check when I lock it in but no major issues at the moment other then the little lip at the end where it could not fully lock. That end part got me the first time and I never did it again since I got so scared lol. Now actually I've been either just locking in the camera horizontally, then rotating the tripod head to vertical mode. Or I have the smallrig rotating kit ive been using that for photoshoots
