Great Video ! Great Memorial ! My father served on LST 265 during the war and participated in the Anzio battle. My family & I come every Veteran's day to the ceremony at the memorial which is so exciting especially when we get to meet the Greatest generation heroes who attend. I hope this year we will still be able to honor those heroes that are still with us ! God Bless America !! God Bless our WWII Veterans !!!
I've had the honor & pleasure of meeting Harry Miller at some of the ceremonies at the memorial. I love his part in this video !! He has great stories to tell as do all the heroes who are still alive. I love how he said this memorial brings the guys back who were lost overseas in WWII. It really shows how important this memorial is to our beloved Greatest Generation !!! Thank you Harry Miller for your service and all those who served !!!
This is indeed a wonderful tribute to the millions of women who served in World War II. I had honor of knowing Dr. Haydn Williams, Chairman of the US National Battle Monuments Commission, who was instrumental in selecting the site and raising the funds to build the WW II Memorial. Dr. Williams wanted the memorial to be a place where one could reflect, meet others, and tell stories like Harry Miller described. The WW II Memorial does exactly this. He would be so pleased. Dr. Williams had a very accomplished career and life. The WW II Memorial was his crowning achievement. I visit the WW II Memorial two or three times a year and think of Dr. Williams, my father, and others who served so bravely to defeat Naziism, fascism, and totalitarianism, and to help build a better America.
My father served in the Pacific, WW2 Army/Airforce and returned home safely. Unfortunately he passed away a day before his 87th birthday. He didn't ike discussing the War but did mention his buddy Earl who the enemy bombed. 😢
As a Dutchman, I am only too well aware and grateful that I would not have the life I can live without the brave men who stormed up the beaches in Normandy to restore democracy in Europe.
