I also have a 2009 corolla, with a cylinder 4 misfire and low compression in cylinders 3 & 4. Thank God for the both of you 🙏🏿, HUGE help 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿 I also found a bad head gasket.
Stopped watching after 45 seconds. The background music adds nothing and only makes it harder to hear what you are saying. Thumbs up if you lose the music.
I have 09 corolla 1.8 with 125k, hard to start sometimes, runs rough after it runs a while, losing compression, not running hot, failed leakdown test at 3 and 4, no oil in radiator so doing this same job soon. Thank you for the video
One more quick question when you did the initial start up after the headgasket replacement. Did the car sound really loud? Also did it run like crap for a bit?
Hey guys, great video. I know its been a while, but after you took your head bolts out and removed the exhaust bolts what did you used to get the head off? It being aluminum makes me nervous to pry at all.
Aye I’ve got exact same issue. I think timing tensioner let go and bent valves. Gonna see if I can replace as little as possible. Just started watching you vid.
150 ish It really aint that bad of a job, it is very tedious at times. Setting the timing is very important. Thank you for subscribing and liking our channel.
Hello. I was wondering about the tool for the head bolt. I have read only use bi-hex and NOT to use a tri- square. I can't find the tool. What did you use for reassembly. Thanks
@@dleef911 Head bolts act like springs.... hence the 90' and 45' subsequent torques. Used head bolts won't have the elasticity and "spring" like torque and will result in a shorter life for your head gasket. NEVER cheap out on head bolts.
so how do you know if its the valves are good or not? how can you tell if the piston rings are good or not? how do you know if the block needs to be machined or not?
from what ive read online this engine should have been recalled. ive taken mine to Toyota and they said it was fine to drive. yeah right. 180k i have a misfire on 4 and im thinking best case scenario it needs a new head gasket. ive also read that the cheaped out on the piston rings on this engine. i guess i should look up how to replace those too

Thanks, Tim & Ben - passing this along to someone I know with this model Corolla.
Thank you and I hope this will help who ever does this job.

That music drove me nuts!!!
Thanks for the video. I got 09 corolla head gasket issue and this helps a lot.
Thanks folks. Very informative video eventhough it was your first time doing this type of car.
You said the Head Gasket was different than the factory part or it was improved? Any info what or where you got the Gasket?
Is it still running without misfiring?
One more quick question when you did the initial start up after the headgasket replacement. Did the car sound really loud? Also did it run like crap for a bit?
My repair was successful gentleman.. thank you for the great video once again!!!
Thanks! I'm looking at doing this on this exact model very soon.
Thank you man I got the same problem I appreciate it for posting this video

We took our time and carefully pryed it off.
I got mine, just slowly putting it all back together while making sure it's all clean. This is on my 09 pontiac vibe but it's the same as the matrix.
Do you think it would be just as easy to remove the engine from the car , if you have all the tools to remove it?, however great viedo
Great video I was wondering where to get the information for torque values on the head bolts, and where I can buy the tool to remove the head bolts
Auto part store and the dealer will tell you.
I got em. You want em?
@@Alexmechanic559 ill take tthem i think this is what im going to have to do to my 09 corolla

Good video, but you need to move that camera to better see the mechanical work of that car

Update!!! It was the exact same issue! hG between 3 @4
The music is WAY TOO LOUD
You didn't mention if you machined the head gasket mating surface to ensure it doesn't fail again
Hey guys, great video Thanks, Tim & Ben
How many miles were on it when it failed? I need to do this to my 2010 I have 214,000

Do you half to remove the cam shafts or cam u remove the whole head together? Thanks
Yes you have to remove the cam shafts!!

I used a triple square - no problems for me and reused head bolts

I've been fighting this problem for a week now. I'm not looking forward to this fix
I wish the man doing all the talking would take the camera for a close-up of what the other guy was removing.
Did you need to machine the clyinder head?
Yes we did.
Was the head even warped? I have same engine ,same issue need head gasket but didn't overheati
@@dleef911 No it was not.
@@southernbuilds6764 interesting, Toyota says this head should not be machined, only replaced if out of spec

Hi, what is the oil viscosity this engine use?
5 30
0w-20 or 5w-20 for the 2ZR-FE 1.8L engine in the 2009 Corollas

I seen so many videos about these engines but no one wants to show how the timing is done that's pretty sucks
Thank you for your comment!!
Speaking is hard to hear over the annoying loud music. "Crank it up and hear it run." All I hear is more annoying music.
This made no sense why wouldn’t you had put the camera view under the hood . Plus there was a lot of mumbling. Although I learned a good bit .
I agree. The loud music made the mumbling extremely hard to hear.
They never got this car back together 😀
Can't hear or understand you over music.
The guy doing most of the talking needs to talk half as much.
2 guys tha look that they dont know what theyre doin all i saw was the back of their necks no good!
At least the loud music was decent!
Umm.
These engines are trash
