David Garibaldi's style of drumming is what really gave the Tower that unique rhythmic funk. You can really hear, feel it on albums" East bay Grease" all the way up to " In the Slot". Dave and Rocco really became the standard for tight funky rhythm sections.
Grand part of my life listening and enjoying very much TOP, A good drummer makes a good band , TOP is not only good; you are superb! Of course what Francis RP did for having a unique sound is fundamental. Now he is gone, and the guy who took his place is making a very good job. I like very much the horn section , and for me the greatest acquisition the band made us Roger Smith ! I used to miss Chester Thompson; not any more. He is just the right guy for that important position! Lot of creativity, variability. A master in the Hammond Organ ! Your actual sound , maybe the greatest of all time (I am just a fan, not a musician) Greetings from 🇲🇽 Mexico
Observing his setup- why not a hi hat dead center? I'm a pianist and built a pad setup with two midiKITIs to add drums to my projects. One pad is a split zone so I do not have to use a pedal for open/closed just a slight side shift of the stick. It just made sense to keep everything centered-snare dead center-high hat straight in front and slightly above- other pads in a semi circle. If Garibaldi had his choice using something like a TrapKat I wonder how he would set up the samples knowing there aren't any hardware encumbrances? John Poole

I saw Tower of Power recently in Louisiana , and I noticed a small drum on the big one right in front , and I'm wonder what it does to the entire system , by the way they sounds awesome in person

First of all, no, they do not sound "fuckin awesome" in this video. If they sounded awesome in person, the recording engineer must have screwed up. I've heard David in person, in small clubs, and he always does sound great. Yamaha's drums usually sound great too, which is why I posted in the first place. Something is wrong with this video.
