This movie is actually based on a real story. The Quangels real name was Hampel. Otto Hampel and his wife Elise were executed on April 8th 1943.

As a German I am proud that in these dark times there were people who stood up for the right thing! These are the heroes of 1933-1945!!!!!

"There is nothing new under the sun" - this story line although set at a different time in history is very similar to that of:

This was a great movie and very sad. This scene has been repeated millions of times throughout world history.

Echoes of the white rose. God bless all those who resisted and gave their lives for the truth.

Les Miserables seems to be a walk in the park compared to this. Glad I viewed this recap. There's no way I can handle seeing the film though I love Brenden Gleeson and Emma Thompson's work.

I don't know if it is a computer-generated voice that narrates these. But it leads to some odd, at times humorous, mispronunciations ("faith" instead of "fate", "coach" instead of "couch", etc.) . When he/it calls a woman, "the Jew", or "the old Jew", it almost sounds like there's a soft-spoken National Socialist narrating it.

The sadness of these poor germans losing their baby is too sad for me to even comprehend

A decent movie. Just note that it should be that she suffers the same fate as him, not “faith”.

I think you meant "fate" rather than "faith".

This movie is actualy a remake of the 1976 released german movie - "Jeder stirbt für sich allein" (Everyone Dies Alone) - with Hildegard Knef and Carl Raddatz. That was 40 year ago. Lost and forgotten. Mostly to the yunger generation of today. I hope this english version remake makes it more internationally known and gets more awarness.
