I had the privilege of seeing the Tonight show in 1972. Jack Benny was the only guest. The playmate of the year was also scheduled but she never got on. She did come out at the end of the show. The band was beyond great & Doc is the GOAT on the trumpet. Btw if anybody can get that episode from August of 1972 up on UA-cam I'll be very grateful. The audience gave Jack a standing ovation & I was on TV for a few seconds lol. I'm almost 71 now & it would be nice seeing myself at 19 😂
At 67 years old I consider Johnny Carson a memorable part of my childhood. I was a night owl and had to watch his monologue and great guests. I was always tired in the morning before school. I slept on the bus on the 1/2 ride to school. It was so moved to watch Bette Midler singing to him on his final show.🎤One for the road. ❤
Same. Funny story. My kids got a Pac-Man frog. He would sit on the counter towards the living room and keep me company when I was washing dishes. Every time Johnny came on he would turn away from me and watch Johnny. If Jay was on he wouldn’t turn. I tried turning the container towards me but the frog absolutely loved Johnny and would turn back no matter how many times I tried. If Jay were on he would turn away towards me. Idk how this worked but I always entertained.
Same age as you an my most memorable moment was seeing Ike an Tina do proud mary....I have been dancing like her ever since! Well when I was a bit younger lol

Late night these days is just awful. Carson was the man.

Hi...that being said, that the career was the most important thing to John might be disputed ...particularly with age. I was impressed with several things on this clip. One being the idea of mutuality in the separations of John's spouses ...the desire to part amicably. Maybe his relationships were all based on pre-nuptual agreements...that much income, when things go south, can have serious effects on some people. Johnny, who sometimes joked about relationships, was also able to laugh at himself...especially when he bombed on TV. Private life did mean a lot...to all his wives. He recognized that, as did they. Did he treat them right? That's the question. Maybe we've never been under that kind of pressure. How long do Hollywood marriage s last anyway? Fitting that his last wife cared so much for him. Off hand, I wonder if faith in God worked into Johnny's life?
@@thomaswelsh5735He was a Midwesterner with Bible belt ties so does that answer the question about religion? But overall things are never quite what they seen. Let's interject a little reality here. If Johnny started his marriages with a prenuptial agreement, that is the equivalent of saying to your spouse, “I don’t think there is a good chance this marriage will last through the rough times, and I don’t want to loose my money.” That is like starting a marathon race on 1 leg. To last and work well, marriage must be the most important thing to both people. I thought Johnny was the best comedian, but not a marriage role model.
@@user-nh4pn6jj7p No prenuptial agreements read this entire thread especially my detailed insightful reply above and to answer a question that should be obvious yes I interacted with him over the course of 40 years.
Not surprised at all that Johnny Carson was married four times. Seems as though celebrities like Johnny need a "special love" from a woman. Johnny's hectic work schedule (being on the air as often as he was) would make his time with family very limited. It would take a special woman's love to handle all that time she would be alone. Johnny Carson brought so much laughter to so many people in his time era. 🙏 RIP JOHNNY CARSON 🙏
I met Johnny at his home in 1986, on a personal level in Malibu at his home to become his butler, however I took a position in Orange County . I always wonder, what it would of been like, I had met so many stars at the time, Johnny was very polite to me. what a great man god bless him the Hollywood butler amen

Not sure where you got the info, but they lived separately and she wasn't around much. He preferred to be by himself. Alexis didn't give the millions to the Foundation, Johnny did that in his trust. Maybe learn a bit more about Carson before posting about him.
According to Ed McMahon, and friends of Carson, and books written about Carson's life the love of his life was his third wife Joanna. It was said he loved her, but Johnny could not remain faithful to any of his wives and when she left him he was devastated.
One that’s brutally honest and hard hitting and NOT Afraid to state the Truth no matter how ugly it may appear. …. This is more like a PR Whitewash. ….. The Production values are excellent. ….. But the guy is dead why are you so afraid to tell the Truth ?
Yes, I knew about Mr Carson's wives. It was quite gracious (and false) that the stress and pressures of stardom and his career ended his marriages. What a nice way to say that he screwed around and wouldn't stop. Like Henry IIX, his poor health stopped his philandering, and his last wife was more caregiver. None of this takes away from his on screen congeniality and comedy. He was snd is among the best.
Here's a more well rounded assessment of the ends of his marriages. Screwung around is low in the list alcoholism tops the list of his faults and frankly all the wife's had causal faults that played into ending the marriages. Wife 1 "screwed around' on rhe side,as well, to use your crude term. Abd Carson's extramarital affairs were predominantly in between the marriages. He was a Midwesterner with Bible belt ties to answer the question about religion. Things are never quite what they seen. Let's interject a little reality here. Marriage 1 ended "agreeably" for the sake of the kids. Marriages 2 and 3 did not actually end agreeably at all. Both parties to each were at fault. I think that his first wife, who gave him three sons, and his last wife, who gave him the care he needed toward the end, were both the loves of his life. It is possible to have more than one. All of them were at different phases. I think it’s natural that he would say the last one as she was the one with him at the end. His first wife in my opinion was definitely the most attractive.

This was very interesting and I did not know his last wife. I remember jokes being made on The Tonight Show about one of Johnny's divorces - about how expensive the divorce was. I do not remember if it was about Joanne or Joanna - their names are so similar.
Like many of those commenting here, I grew up with Johnny Carson and shared a little time with David Letterman. It is a sad commentary on todays TV that no one can compare to Johnny. It is hard to believe he has been gone so long. Johnny was a listening as well as a comedian. He let other do their thing and didn't get in the way. He was also intelligent with a very quick whit. I don't even watch late show television anymore. It is a wasteland of talentless people. More focused on self than entertaining the public.
@@andrewbroughton65 - Don't watch ANYMORE. It is hard to break a 62 year habit but once you go through a new night time "star" as they arrive it’s easy to determine if you like them or not. I can't think of one of these current late show hosts who hasn't been a performer I’ve seen on some other shows first and most have been hosting for years. Jimmy Fallon - kids stuff, Jimmy Kimmel - alleged racist (hard to believe they ever upped him to host after his early behavior; think Karl Malone), James Cordin - the worst host I have ever seen, Trevor Noah - you’re kidding, Bill Maher and Stephen Colbert - mainly political and neither funny on their own accord, Seth Myers - likable but underwhelming. If I saw a talent I liked, I would start watching again. Of course this is my assessment that was borne out of watching Johnny Carson, a little Jack Parr and David Letterman. Yours may be entirely different.
Thank you for this piece. It was good to hear about the seldom discussed positive aspects of Johnny Carson’s marital relationships. I appreciate your efforts very much.
I read so many stories about him and personally he had issues with people. Never felt loved by his Mom. I wouldn't want to know him in person. Loved his show though
It seems as though he had a good relationship with all of his ex-wives. They say that great comedy comes from pain so who knows what his private life was. I always enjoyed his comedy, I loved the times he had the animals on the show. It takes good comedic timing to do a skit based on an animal peeing on your head.
I think all his wives were wonderful people and while together ( which was always for an extended period of time ) were quite happy together. His last wife was of course a class by herself in beauty, dignity and by being his true soul mate. Together they showed togetherness.
Not surprised at all. I was a beautiful woman and I have to say I was starred at by married, divorced, men all the time. I was married 3 times before I found the love of my life. Money, good looks can attract people you'd never be with.
Well these facts of Johns relationships and his personal gifts to charity make him complete. John was a really great man and a really great entertainer. Clone Johnny! When it becomes legal.
His first three wives were; Jody, Joanne and Joanna. There must be something in that name. I grew up watching Johnny Carson and my son was born the week that Johnny was to retire. There will never be another one like him!

Beautiful words, thank you for your message for Johnny. May he find peace 🙏
He was a good actor.
I was a great fan of his The Tonight Show even in school I would stay up just to see him and saw him person at The Westcher a concert and was amazed on how funny he was
We're happy to know that you love the show. In your opinion, what is its best episode?
Loved and missed. Rest in peace.
Wow. Four times. Didn't know that. Loved his show and still watch the returns. Best show ever at night in that generation
In successful marriages, the spouse is the most entity in ones life. For Johnny, his career was the most important thing in his life.
Proofreading is very, too.

Then again couples separate and divorce all the time and say later that was the love of their life, they just can’t get along.
He lived on his boat while she lived in the home
This site is a joke.Information made up and not correct.
I like the way people think they know the truth story If you think you know better then why don’t you make a video
Research deeply before making a video. Numerous misinformation in this video.
Didn't know any of this about Carson. Very interesting vid.
According to Ed McMahon, and friends of Carson, and books written about Carson's life the love of his life was his third wife Joanna. It was said he loved her, but Johnny could not remain faithful to any of his wives and when she left him he was devastated.

what a nice story...and his last wife was such a nice n caring person...
Johnny's son Rick is the one that passed away not Cory.
He was a photographer and Johnny showed the beautiful photos. He was also a pilot

You are absolutely correct. His first wife, was left completely destitute, while he did nothing.
Can’t believe Johnny went into retirement 30 years ago.

Great story
Well, what I did know about his situation in the middle was the divorce from Joanna became fodder for his late night jokes!
This was very interesting and I did not know his last wife. I remember jokes being made on The Tonight Show about one of Johnny's divorces - about how expensive the divorce was. I do not remember if it was about Joanne or Joanna - their names are so similar.

Nothing can beat a Johnny Carson show that included animals!!
So..how do You know they're talentless if as You say You "Don't even watch it"..?
Damn, Carson scored some beautiful wives. I guess women do like funny guys.

Beautiful words, thank you for your message for Johnny. We miss him. What other types of video would you like to see?
I think all his wives were wonderful people and while together ( which was always for an extended period of time ) were quite happy together. His last wife was of course a class by herself in beauty, dignity and by being his true soul mate. Together they showed togetherness.
Not surprised at all. I was a beautiful woman and I have to say I was starred at by married, divorced, men all the time. I was married 3 times before I found the love of my life. Money, good looks can attract people you'd never be with.
Could it have been THEY who searched and failed to find THE RIGHT “BEAUTIFUL WOMAN”?

I can see what the attraction was to his 1st wife! 🤣
Then why did he not help her when she was homeless.
@@Anonymous-pn4fv She received a tidy sum of settlement money at the end of the marriage and continued to receive alimony money throughout the years. If she ever had a point where she was homeless it was do to your poor money management.

Late Night has not been the same since Johnny Carson stepped down. All I see are a bunch of pretenders with no real substance. I miss the wit, the dignity, and the quick on his feet give and take of Carson. Also, he could save a hopelessly unfunny situation and turn it around on the spot and make it hilarious. R.I.P. Johnny.
You missed his drumming, career as a magician and service during WWII as a Naval Intelligence Officer. Everyone around at the time knew about his many marriages.
