Nice video Kelly. I especially like your explanation of the methodology in pinning .A couple of quick questions (not being a sewer of ladies clothes) when you adjust the ease are there landmarks the ease needs to line up with or is it "make it fit" while leaving enough for pleats. Also would it be considered to use binding tape on the inside bottom edge of the armscye. Cheers
hi George, the ease distribution depends a bit on the body you are sewing for. You need the most amount of ease over the point where the shoulder point sits, so on some people, it's predominant in one spot or another, and I would adjust to that. My shoulders are rather soft, so I evenly distribute over the whole upper part of the armscye. I wouldn't add binding to a ladies armscye like this, it would add extra bulk that's not really needed. Women's bodies are rather upholstered in this period, so the wear pattern just isn't there, which is why they aren't finished as well as men's suits are in the period. If you're making menswear, hold tight, I have a suitcoat up fairly soon in the to-do pile and I will shoot some stuff for it too.
You are a lifesaver! I was so confused about setting a sleeve, and you simplified it. Thank you so much!
I'm glad this worked for you! Happy stitching
