I think the greatness of this performance comes from being able to produce and construct 2 or 3 solid beats on one track and loop them; then on the second track have solid sounds, samples and scratch tracks. Put them together, scratch and add effects and you are set.
This makes me think of people who complain that electronic music artists "dont have any real skill because its not a real instrument" or "all they do is push a button, how hard is that". SO much talent!
That was an amazing video, this guy clearly grew up in the vinyl era, like me. His scratch skills are insane!!! Everyone that is flippin' him off are tools who only listen to dubstep and have no clue what other music sounds like. This is a great performance! Anyone who doesn't realize that is a tool.
i' ve never seen somebody who is so fucking perfectly in time, while scratching and using traktor.. I thik he will be DMC Champion for the next Decade!
@TwistableTurn (Contd..) 3 He is using crossfader to give another sound effect (more noticeable towards the end if you look carefully and concentrate for sound). 4 He uses the two volume controls to add silence effects (two verticle knobs one for each channel above the cross fader) 5 He uses effect rack to give sound effects like bouncing the mix, etc. You can use any like reverb, flanging or others depending on what your rack has. 6. Sampler provides pre-sampled sounds to make mix unique
@TwistableTurn The gear (irrespective of make) is two vinyl players + mixer, one effects rack, one sampler, and a DAW or DJ soft running on laptop that is mixing all the inputs into one comprehensive track. What he is doing: 1 The Disc on his right is providing the basic beat to the mix while the one on left is providing vocals. 2 He is scratching the CD on left to repeat and loop vocals (the vocal effect) plus giving vocals to the mix. 3 (Contd..)
The turntable is THE turntable of the DJ scene: Technics 1210. Only avalaible on eBay and Amazon since Technics are not producing them anymore. But still the best and most-reliable ones! (And the Mixer is the Traktor Kontrol Z2!). Have fun, matey.
@DeRandomSpamm they are technics. 1210 i think. just the timecode vinyls are from traktor. you can buy them in every dj shop. hope i could help! merry christmas, mate!
wow- unbelievable- i´m really impressed- is it possible to learn more about the technique and to work with a machine like this? dear DJ Unkut where can i learn ? i create music for my own dance shows and i live in Berlin- could you give me an advise where to go? thanks Caren;-)
@J00N1 Agreed! I love how they always do this. They always announce "new MKII timecode" with no technical data to back it up. Or at least I can't find anything on the site.
My guess goes for a Maschine controler, a Kontrol X1 FX's controler, 2 MK2 timecode Traktor Scratch and probably the Audio 10 interface.. Not know about the mixer, and i'm not shure either if NI have some. Hope it helps
Well .... the motto here seems to be ... if something itches ..... then SCRATCH LOL!!!! Actually, this is extremely well done. Not my kind of thing but I can appreciate the skills and abilities it takes to produce this vid ;-)
well said... I know exactly what you are talking about! Just cuz another DJ did it doesn't mean you have to do it too just to make you "look" like a DJ
have u used it? its even better wit the matching Traktor Kontrol z2! He's that good & its that amazing... he has turntable controllers and the maschine music production center.... obviously it was setup beforehand... didnt do that live tho... buts sick as hell
The first Native Instruments video I watched 10yrs ago, as I got my first dj controller for Christmas
Wow........ Just wow, pure skill
I DJ in empty swimming pools sometimes too
HAAAAAA HA!!!

Still classic after all these years
Why he has the extra weight screwed on the back of the right tonearm?
Soft or hard scratch...
+Elpidio Granatello good question???

Did anyone notice he's in an empty swimming pool?
Goin deep

Sure he's good, but he always empties the fucking pool.
Terrible for pool parties.
This is the only video of a peformance by unkut, and its inspiring, im getting turntables just to replicate this routine, DJ UNKUT IS A BEAST

Scratching belongs in old school hip hop, not electric music. This is still crazy though
I don't think scratching belongs to any genre. It just belongs to djs. But then again djing with a electronic sound did kinda start from hip hop
definitely like the gater effect and how chopped up he gets it. Fresh!
Anyone else realize hes in an empty pool
haha no.. but it makes a great effect!
Simply awsome !
Why are u in a swimming pool?
ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR !
He is really good and talented, but it got quite annoying after a minute.
loooooooool,
WOW that was awesome!!!
that was true class man....no doubt he is one of the best djs....
Dj Unkut best DJ ever :D
This makes me think of people who complain that electronic music artists "dont have any real skill because its not a real instrument" or "all they do is push a button, how hard is that". SO much talent!

@J00N1 Agreed! I love how they always do this. They always announce "new MKII timecode" with no technical data to back it up. Or at least I can't find anything on the site.
