I never really thought about whether those pitons belonged to Royal, but that is a good possibility. The history of this route makes it all the more grand. We used a 60m to save weight. A 70m would have allowed us to link more pitches, but we would also have had to be more mindful of saving gear on a linked pitch. We weren't in a rush to get done, so saving weight was more important. The hike up/down are brutal.
