Pitt Pens + Small Victories = match made in colouring heaven! :)
Shall we take a look at Johanna Basford's newest book, "Small Victories"? :) In this video, I compare the US and UK versions of the book, do a flip-through of the book, and then do a real-time colour-along using only Faber Castell Pitt Pens (with a little bit of Glaze Pen and Polychromos at the very end :)). Time stamps are given below for each of the video parts. Let's go!
Pitt Pen colours used in the video:
    220, 146, 170, 101, 192, 169, 270, 272, 230, 232, 186, 188, 180, 175
Staedtler Pigment Brush Pen colours used in the video:
    57, 51
I used a Clear Gelly Roll Glaze Pen (800) on the window glass over top my colouring.
    I used Polychromos 140 & 146 to shade in a quick sky.
    Time stamps:
00:34 Comparison between US & UK editions
14:31 Flip through of the book
34:22 Colour-along/tutorial using Faber Castell Pitt Pens
2:04:40 Final thoughts on the paper in the US edition
    2:05:30 Finished pic
If anyone has any questions about anything they see in the video or would just like to say hello, please pop down to the comment section below!
Thank you for watching! Keep calm and colour on! :)

Thank you for this! It looks great! I am glad you are demonstrating with PItt pens, and I would love to seem more of your colouring with Pitt pens or other water-based markers (without pencils on top). I started out a few months ago wanting to use just pencils, but I have issues with my fine motor skills and I have realized that I will get more enjoyment of out working with markers, or sometimes a combination of markers and pencils. I hope you do a video tour of your water-based markers soon, as I'm still in the process of building up my supply and I find your "collection" videos very helpful :)

Hi, I really enjoyed this video. I generally like to use my Pitt pens in Johana Basford’s books. When I bought this book and saw the tiny little pictures, I knew I would primarily be using my Pitt pens throughout the book. There aren’t that many videos using them, so I am always appreciative when there’s a new video with these pens.

Looks great! My brain works like yours. I have to try really hard to be creative, and coloring does help. I also like to color for relaxation and don't want to stress so much about shading and perfection. There is a real need for your channel, so keep up the good work!

Hi! I very much liked this video. First, bird-watching is SO fun! I am also able to watch out from my window and see the birds at the feeder, but we are very far (Central Texas) from you. It's exciting for me to learn about the birds you get there vs here. I had to look up the pine grosbeak - what a sweet bird - and beautifully colored. We have multiple families of Cardinals that winter on our property and you're right - they are stunning. Please continue to share about birds there when you can.
I'm so glad that you used the Pitt pens and that you talked through the coloring session. I bought a small set to test and found them wonderfully pigmented, but struggled a bit using them. Your tips on using them were so helpful - I look forward to getting back to them.
I liked the way that the chimneys turned out - that white is very versatile!
Thank you for the interesting, informative, and fun video!

You'll probably hear me mention bird watching a lot in the videos that I record during the winter - that's when I can feed the birds. I can't feed them during the spring/summer/fall because the black bears we have around here will simply come into my yard and tear down the feeders to eat the seeds and I'd rather not have a bear 3 feet from my window. :)
There's definitely a learning curve with the Pitt Pens so don't be discouraged if you have some trouble with them at first! Keep trying them on different papers and in different ways and you'll find a method that works for you. :) And yes - the white Pitt Pen is an amazing little pen!
So glad you stopped by! :)

It’s incredibly late at night here but started watch, and thank you so much- I love seeing the differences 😆😂 no matter how small it seems to other people. I have seen both people with the us and uk edition mention they have errors, so perhaps one if yours is a slight misprint regarding the larger/ smaller sizes🤷‍♀️? . I had a look in my local shop ( I’m in Australia), & we have the uk version… one copy seemed to have a bit of the double printing, but the other didn’t. Thank you again and will watch the rest tomorrow ☺️ ps I watched in double time as I couldn’t wait to see some of it at least yet I’m so tired and need to put my phone away! Hence the comment so close to upload ☺️😆

You're very welcome - and thank you for watching! That's interesting that the printing errors seem to be random - and it's too bad for Johanna that some of her beautiful little books were affected. :( Ah well - life can't be sweet and rosy all the time, I suppose - and rainbows need rain in order to appear. :) Thanks for stopping by!

I enjoyed your video very much. I did not color along but will save it for later. I'm working on the first page in this book right now (the butterfly mandala), so it will be a while before I'm done. Really slow colorer! I have a terrible time figuring out what should have shadows and where, so your video will hopefully help me out with that. I've never used pitt pens (not really sure what they are), but I'll follow along using my pencils!

    • @colouringchemist
      @colouringchemist  10 місяців тому +1

I tend to be a slow colourer, too - I figure it takes as much time as it takes. :)
And I'm so sorry - I should have given more info about Pitt Pens in the video! They are a water-based, pigment ink pen (marker) made by Faber Castell. They come in a variety of colours and tip types but I mostly use the brush tip pens to colour. I think they were originally made to do brush lettering but I really like them for colouring instead. :) You can buy them at most art supply places. They can be expensive so it's best to just buy a few through open stock and try them out before buying a set. And because Faber Castell does such a good job at colour matching between their lines, you can absolutely just grab the same colour numbers from your Polychromos/Albrecht Durer/Goldfaber pencils and follow along! :)

Thank you for your video. It is very interesting having a scientific approach to colouring, one can learn new things.
About the differences between the UK and the US versions of the book, there is one difference on the cover that Johanna Basford mentioned (I believe it was in her 1st live on Facebook, but I am not sure): there is one penguin inside the ballon on the right side below the title.
I was very curious about how using the Faber-Castell Pitt pens as I am a big of the brand, and as a newbie I only use colour pencils.

Ah - I didn't even notice - there is a little penguin in the balloon on the US cover! :D I love tiny little details like that. :) Thanks for sharing that!
Pitt Pens can have a bit of a learning curve so if you decide to give them a try, don't be discouraged if they don't give you the look that you wanted on your first go. :) It took me a while to figure out how to use them to get the most out of them but now I love colouring with them!
