Thanks for the timestamp 😁
Thank you! The title made it seem like there would be less fluff.
Almost nothing cooler than father son time like that. Cherish all of it and never let it go. Also I’m waiting the new year maxspeedingrods to come. Heard they will be a great price still. Good content! Great video.

I just put these on my integra. Hopefully I have the same results. I won't be tracking it like yours but I will be putting some miles on it. Thanks for the review and your videos. Great job
I hope you do too! I like them and for the price they can't be beat. I watched your video last night too! Those wheels look sharp!
How is it turning out for you so far???
How do you like them?
Have they held up?
???
Been using these on my RX8 nearly a year now. They work perfectly fine.
Thanks for the input
Thanks for the update, Jon. Looking forward to seeing how they continue to hold up.
Love the upgrades on the CRX. Like seeing how these additions effect the handling of the car.
Did you ever order a set of springs/coils for your setup?
I have Skunk2 springs and will be extending my top hats to be a better fit for stock struts.
My wife ended up having a major health issue related to her pregnancy, so we ended up spending a week in the hospital. Both she and our new son are safe, just a huge pause to time and funds for the time being.
Once our boy comes home, I will resume work. Till then, I just watch your channel to stay calm and sane! Thanks for what you do!
I had MXR coilovers on my silver Legacy for a year and beat the crap out of them during hard driving in 2018, and I currently have them in my wagon, and have done hard touge runs in the summer of 2019 and still hard at times now. I'm in the Northeast, well in the rust land (CT). They are still holding up. Cheers!
Thanks for the info! Love to hear it.
I did a 14 hour Enduro in November with these coil-overs after your initial review.
They are great, cheap coil-overs. For harder racing applications, the spring rates are a little too soft.
I'm currently running a Civic Wagon that has been stripped and gutted and installed a 22 gallon fuel cell in the passenger area directly above the rear wheels and forward. The time for the weight to transfer and load the coil before accelerating in the turn is monstrous. I may run one more enduro on them but I will be looking for a stiffer setup. We do not have a rear Sway/Traction bar installed though as we need to custom fab mounts for ours.
Love to hear this, thanks for sharing! It'll help a lot of others decide if it's a good fit for them also.
Wagon racers 🫡❤
Great video as always Jon! I love my MaxSpeedRods coil overs, for what they are. Even though I could buy namebrand coil overs the cheap side of me won’t let me.😂
🙏
Sameeee
Maxpeedingrods is name brand just like Megan racing, GodSpeed, Raceland and BC racing.
I have a set of the basic coilovers on my 1998 VW Golf. It is not a track car , but it is a daily driver. I have about 5-6k's on them after about a year. I have had no issues with them and for the money they even have a fairly decent ride. I would recommend them to anyone wanting to save some money but wants something other than lowering springs
Thanks for the info and experience!!
My rear driver side leaked out after about a year (12,000 miles I think) in SoCal daily all street. I have the older version with out the adjustable damper, Even with that said I wouldn't complain. They still feels great and for the price, I get what I paid for.
Thanks for the feedback. Hopefully they can create a better damper in the future.
Thanks for making this review.
Not planning on using them for the track but just to add a little bit of low to my daily driver. These seem like a good coilover for people that don't want to spend half of their car's value on some nice coils.
Perfect!
Randomly searching UA-cam for coilover reviews for my car that gets maybe 200mi a year, and at the 4min mark it dawned on me this is ASR. Cool to find someone a bit local 🤙🏻
Thanks for checking it out! Hope you find something that works for you!
Came for the review, but really enjoyed your dad ripping track
I modded a set for install on my Datsun 510. My buddy did it to his Datsun 510 Wagon and he loves them. Rides really nice with them and handles good.
Thanks for that input!
I got these like 5 months ago and they have been holding up just fine on my 95 civic. So far way better then my first coils that were ksport.
Thanks for the input!
Hi are they good for daily drive? Soft? Comfy? Stiff? Bumpy? Hard? Pls help thanks
@Edmund Tambot ever since my last comment they’ve been holding up perfect still. Id buy another set if i could find one on ebay now just to store them away for when these go bad eventually. 👌🏼
@Edmund Tambot and on how they ride i run 5/24 clicks so its pretty soft and for daily its super comfy for a low stanced car. Not bumpy at all. If you set them right.
@@randyej2pr bro I installed them on my nissan maxima and I dont take it to the track. It's making this really weird clunking/clicking noise when I first take off after sitting still for a bit or when I turn the wheel more so. Any suggestions?
I agree, going off is a sure way to test how the shocks last haha
Easily!! Definitely no joke!
I'm really only 2-3 minutes into the video but that background music has already made it for me!
This is inspiring me to pick up a set for my WRX to replace the old, beat to hell ones on there. Thanks so much for the review!
Good luck! Use my coupon code to save some cash!
People complain about the coilovers locking up but they dont read the instructions that Say use anti-seize on the threads.
Agree 100%! 👍
After dealing with 10 year old buddy club coilovers on my em1, I am so glad I did this on these
These kits come with instructions??
@@scorpionwins6378 To install onto your car? No.
@@GarageBuiltHondas Do you know if I can use extended top hats with these coilovers?
Thanks for the update video. Convinced me to buy a set for my miata. Anything is going to be better than what I have now. Bought it with some lowering springs installed on crappy struts. Tired of not even being able to get into a shopping center with high speed bumps. I have great shocks on my offroad truck. Suspension can get very expensive, dropped close to 4k on the truck. Just not ready to spend 1k on suspension for my daily driving to work miata.
Agree. I think you'll like these. Make sure to buy them directly from their website and use the "GBH" coupon for an additional 8% off. Buying directly from them also gives you some coverage if you have a defective one from the beginning.
Mine loved 8k revs lol. Till my head gasket started leaking after 5+ years of me owning my crx. Love the videos man, shop looks sick too!
I think they all do, it's the driver that was a little intimidated. Lol
On a double wishbone system, the shock shaft only receives vertical plane forces (plunging in and out). On a Macpherson kind of system there are high lateral loads as well. I'd bet that cheaper companies have more issues with cars like a DC5 than a DC2.
i love how son is teaching dad how to drive
That's what I call quality son/dad time. Super cool!
As someone that does 1000 miles a week in the northeast, I may be the perfect test subject. I'll wait for spring though lol.
I'd love to see how they hold up to your elements!
Any good?
Please give us an update. Looking to get some and live in the same area. Would love to hear how they held up.
Update?
Just saw these, my bad. After seeing other videos and reading how they're too stiff/bouncy and can blow out.. I decided to go with a Vogtland spring/strut kit, and Vogtland makes a fantastic product. Our potholes up here would wreck these maxpeedingrods. Or your alignment.
Sorry to disappoint. If you can make sure you have preload no matter what you purchase. Don't buy koni orange struts and lowering springs. Trust me.
Yeah you put some distance on them and they are a good introduction to a performance part and will work for a while. Your Dad is getting more confident!
He is, it showed in his driving!
Love how you took your old man out to the track! 🤘🏽😎
He enjoys it too, he's raced RC airplanes his whole adult lift, I knew he'd like racing cars.
1200 miles on a track is like 20k miles in the real world. I have TEIN street basics and love them.
Depends how you drive 😬😂👌🏻
Thanks for the review! Think I'm going to give them a try.
👍
You have a very cool relationship with your dad. What a great way to connect...Good video :)
It's nice that he lives close again. It had been a long time since we've been able to do stuff like this.
Every brand has to start somewhere. Feedback is always a good source for improvement 😃
I have a set of these on my FG2 and couldn't be happier. Have a set of Twin Flex Z on my 99 Integra and I feel these are every bit as good. They have about a year or 2 of use now here in the Appalachian Mountains of WV seeing road salt and really rough roads every now and again and they have held up great. I have always been a fan of Tein's Flex Z set up but these cam with my FG2 and I'm kind of digging them. Not bouncy at all. Tight and pretty crisp. I jva belittle to no body roll in curves. We have some pretty intensely windy roads out here and they hold up great. IF I have to replace these I will say I am going with a set of Tein buuuuuuut these still rock for now hahaha.
Awesome!! Thanks for the detailed information!
I raced CCS #752 superbike in South Florida for 12 years. I have not been on a track since 2001. Sure would love to do a track day. They have one here in Louisiana. New Orleans. I should go.
I have the same set of MSR's on my car. The ride is really good I enjoy it a lot. Yeah Its stiff but way more useable than cheap lowering springs...Good choice If you are young like me or you r on a budget. No need to spend 1000dollhair on KW or TEIN etc. I highly recommend it! (My car is polybushed too)
Thanks for that input. I feel the same about the poly bushings and the ride quality, feels nice still!
Thanks for raplying, It means a lot!Do you have any plans for the track car? Some kind of engine swap since the b20 "died"...
Oh and Whats up with that lovely B16 sedan? (Im a sedan guy and Id love to see it in a new video:)
Probably just a new b20. I'd like to finally get a tune and see what power it makes.
You're going to hate me. I sold it in September 2018. I needed the money for the new home my wife and I built. Maybe one day I'll be able to build another one.
I have the maxspeeding adjustable coiloverS, gsr front sway bar, itr rear say bar, full energy bushing kit on my 93 coupe. They work great had them for about three months. Only things I would say they could improve is the spring isolator bushing is kinda soft on the top. Also the fronts have a weird lower rubber ring that kinda just falls apart so I removed it. Also the shock adjustment knobs could have a better feel as the can be hard to tell the clicks. I made sure all my preload was equal and they ride pretty good. Also I just used the ef front forks on my ej2 so I didn’t have to use the metal sleeve. I daily my car on them and love them so far
Excellent info, thanks for the input and opinion!! 👍
These where cheaper than stock so I took a chance on them on my accord. They have been on around 2 and a half years 30k miles, just passed mot np no leaks. For the money I think ok. Just be sure to tighten the top strut nut up best off with impact as my came loose when new. UK here with terrible weather.
Thanks for the input!
This is great, some real reviews. I been waiting for this video for month. I will be getting them pretty soon. This is the review that I needed!
Thanks!
Did you end up getting them Ronald?
How are they doing? No noises?
Sorry for the late reply, I did get them. I had some problem with the alignment and the clunk noise, they are very stiff and I wish could've get it lower than skunk springs. The handling improved a lot, but for the price and the right set up.
@@1109rou thanks for the feedback! So how did you end up fixing the clunk noises and improve the handling? What did u tweak if I may ask? Only issue so far is the annoying clunking
Hats off to the professor!! Don't forget to take off your uwabaki before entering that beast making garage..
Lol
Nice video! On a side note.. going from 15/19mm to 16/23mm you are balancing the car into more understeer, you should keep the front 19mm and add only the rear 16mm setup like the ef8 crx has or upgrade to a 22mm rear sway bar to compensate the front 23mm da sway. P.d.: your dad has improved a lot! Congratulations!
The bars were free upgrades except the bushings I had to buy. It's better than it was. I have the 23 DA & 22 ST bar on my 91 Si and I like how it feels. We want to upgrade this rear bar when money allows. 👍
Garage Built Hondas your 23/22 setup its perfect
Ive got around 5-6k of daily driving on my set now. After I replaced the shock that was leaking I cant say Ive had any issues. Honestly like em alot compared to my beat to shit tockio blues and skunk2 sleeves. *IF* you can get a set that wont leak, I dont see why you would ever need anything more expensive for a daily. Big if though.
What dampening position did you use?
Amazing videos! Thank you for taking the time to film all of this for us....with SUCH GREAT DETAIL! Best coilover review videos on the web hands down! Thank you brother.
Much appreciated, thanks for watching!
Fantastic video of the family in the CRX!! Looks like so much fun!! 👍🏻🇨🇦👊🏻🤟🏻🙏🏻
Good review! 😋
Thanks Fred
Gonna try these out on my e46 325ci , not expecting them to be bulletproof but hey let’s try it . Thanks for this review
Report back how it goes, would love to hear.
I have a set on my 03 civic had them for about a year now well over 10k miles on them and still ride like the day I installed them bouncy a lil on uneven roads but other than that they are good
Appreciate the info and update!! 👍
Skykru what is your damper set to?
@@randolphhaber9190 I have mine at about 8 clicks from the lowest setting all the way around
Skykru is it stiffer than stock suspension? I want to buy some but I’m contemplating buying more expensive ones bc of ride quality
So awesome! Your dad has gotten a thousand times better! 👍🏻👍🏻
Agree!!
Dude we got the blue hands, coil over review and race track all in one video.. couldn’t ask for more 👍 with the new garage I sooo look forward to your channel popping up under new feed. I’m proud of you as a Latino from Chicago. I’m pretty sure we all are. Be safe and play safe 👍🇵🇷🇲🇽
Much love man!
"GBH" = Garage Blue Hand Hondas
I know this video is old but. I was looking for reviews on these coils and saw your from EL Paso me to! Gonna sub just for that haha.
Thank you!
Congrats on everything garage and vids. Keep it up. Can’t wait to see if they good or no. Thanks. Again brother for vids
For the price, you really can’t beat it. Fully adjustable for 220$ is pretty nice plus they don’t ride bad either
Scott Kennedy they ride like junk and leak/bent shafts
Art I’ve never had an issue with them, but I have heard of nightmares with them.
planning to buy a set for my E34 525i that i am restoring. The factory shocks are shot. these seems to be the logical upgrade.
Yes, inexpensive and still decently built.
Maxpeedingrods turbos have a very good reputation.
I got a set of these and a complete running B18B2 with cable trans out of an EF car for $200. Havent used them yet. The engine is going into the CRX and the coilovers into the Del Sol. CRX has new Tien springs and struts.
👍
always great to watch you and the crx or ef. i would love to see a episode of midnight oil on vtec academy with you talking track with them it would be cool.
That would be awesome. He actually tracks his car regularly
Maybe they'll allow me one of these days. If my daughter lets me.. lol
Cool update. I'll be buying some of those in the near future.
Wesley Kelly do you value your life?
Thanks for the review! I’ll be throwing some of these on my mini!
👍
Let me know how these ride on the Mini!!!
Just got my set for my 95 Civic , thanks for the review. Great info and the video cam inside the wheel well was perfect. I have a pair for my Daily 98 Corolla and I have it maxed out lowered and rides nice soft. On the Civic I'll run it stiffer.. I don't track so for the street it should do the job. The price was great for them. I had a pair of Godspeeds on my previous stolen car and those ran me $660 . These Maxspeeds should compete with those at its lower price.
Are they still good on your corolla after 6 months?
Good day! I live in Russia, I have a Toyota Altezza car, an analogue of your Lexus IS 300, I have Coilovers, from Japan, They have already passed 100k, maybe more, I won’t say for sure, it costs about $ 150-250 to service them, so I’m thinking , over buying just such Chinese coilovers, I've been watching this video for 1 year now, what do you say, maybe you still ride them !? And will they survive on my rear-wheel drive car, which sometimes likes to drift a little around town! Thank you very much for your review, so far I have not found anything else, I am waiting for your reply! Thanks!
I'd recommend rebuilding yours if it's less expenses than buying a new set, especially if you already enjoy how yours perform. Sounds like you've had them for a long time too so you could count on them lasting a long time again. That's the route I would go.
@@GarageBuiltHondas Thank you very much!
The crossover at 4:41 😍😍
5:14
Upgraded my MC to 15/16” as well!
Thanks for the review, Jon. Great info!
Thanks for the review. Just got mine. Loved it.
Nice! 👍
Excellent update video on Rune. Thanks!
@garagebuilthondas do you have your front dampers bottomed out as low as the Coilover will go?
Welp, lasted about a year on my E36 318is, not driven hard, not slammed (about 1.5inch drop from stock)
2 blown shocks.
Racelands on the other hand (a friend of mine), 2+ years and going strong on a 323is E36... Its racelands for me then
Thanks for the input!
@@GarageBuiltHondas think it comes down in a big way to the rigid camber plates on the maxspeeding.... Racelands on the 323is are on stock rubber plates.... We do not track the cars tho... So you have a lot more authority to speak about them! Loved the video! Looking foward to installing the new racelands on the 318is...
In case someone comments about getting a higher tier kit... I'm 19 and at university in Colombia.... Not reallly a rich country, basically a miracle I could afford a 318is (cost 10.000 over here)
@@GarageBuiltHondas Also! Getting an 8th gen civic (non SI) tomorrow as a daily, any tips on confort upgrades or mantineance?
These worked for me....for a bit. I've since moved them to a 1996 Civic hatchback and I don't like the ride quality at all. I think they've given up on me too
Thank you for sharing it’s very informative save me money working my own car thank you
I just bought 3 pairs of them, and everything is good for me.
Excellent!
The only complaint i have for mine are the fronts dont go low enough. Fronts are all the way low and its like half an inch lower Then stock.
everyone has their theories on what you need to do to "make these work"...you should just be able to install and have them work.
I did install them. They did work.
Best thing I did was ditch the soft springs for some eibach lowering springs. Handles so much better and still kept my lower ride height and adjustable dampers
What rates did you go with?
Can't remember right off hand, I bought them off of my friend but I will look and let you know
Great budget coilover set.We have these on a street ek rides very well
Thanks for the input!
I bought a set for eclipse because of your previous video on these, putting them on after winter
Excellent, let me know how they perform for you!
How’s it been? I have a 3g eclipse trying to buy some for mine as well
Hey 3g families.
I'm installing mines tomorrow
Pete Blazer how are they working out for you
Saw these on aliexpress and kind of assume they would explode at the first bump. But these seem to hold up pretty good. TBH i might save some money and put these on my miata daily instead of teins.
I am in need of coilovers just to stiffin up my civic to stop it feeling like a boat its on all stock stuff with a b20v in alot say buy the expensive brands its just for a weekend toy for the street been looking at these for a few weeks now very tempting
3:15 JW how long before the cardboard caught on fire. Can't tell you how many times I've done that, hah.
Not this time fortunately!!! Lol
Hahaha nice! I've had some wet cloths catch on fire and give me a good scare my hair had gone up too. 😂 Thanks for the awesome review on these coilovers!
Ive put these on my turbo dc2 and after couple months of weekend use the stiffness went away and just acted like I was on stock suspension lots of body roll and the rear swaying side to side. I've checked them over no leaks or major concerns. After examining found the top nut that holds the top hat to the strut was loosen all the way which was very dangerous so luckily we caught it early. We fix that but still same issues. Be careful guys.
Thank you for the update!
How much faster are these than stock over a lap?
I live in ny i daily my crx, i have about 32,000 miles no leaks yet!
How stiff are they
8k front and 5k rear spring rates.
8k front and 5k rear spring rates.
Where do I find that jack at 8:40? I keep a big floor jack in my rsx, so with that, my toolbox, jackstands and subwoofers I have no trunk space left
Still have the love for the CRX running and racing
It never gets old!
@@GarageBuiltHondas I'll get mine. Thanks for keeping the inspiration alive👍
I had BWR coilovers on my 92 cb7 those were kind of soft.
Tein street coilovers on my cb7 those felt great AFTER I put stiffer springs on the rear. Otherwise soft also
MSR non dampening on my 98 Accord they felt stiff enough for me not over the top.
I like my cars as low as I can drive them I would definitely buy MSR again.
Thanks for the input!!
Personally also owned a cb7; mine however had the eBay unbranded lowering spring kit coupled with skunk2 street shocks. May as well have been driving a granite slab mounted on a granite slab but did not let 225 40r 18s touch wheel well nor fender. It was hard as a rock and bumps were rough on my butt, but that granite slab rode on rails. No slippy slide.
Did these have adjustable dampening? Thanks btw, your video makes me more confident in purchasing these now
Yes
Been waiting for this follow up for a while! Nice review Jon. Always thorough.
I said I would! Just had to get through that 5th and final track session.
So , question, if one were to put this onto their daily driver and they drove in a fairly mild, every once in a while spirited, but mostly normal city/highway applications, never going to the track or driving beyond the cars limits or the drivers capabilities, would you say these can be fairly reliable and durable? I'd like to consider these with my tire/wheel setup? Thanks~!
Absolutely
I forgot to lock my car doors and someone stole a brand new set Tein Coilovers, Rotors and adjustable upper A-arms out of my 90 CRX a couple of years ago. I live over in Columbus, wonder if you have come across someone with them?
I had them all boxed up nice for them. My fault but still, I hate people that steal.
I sold the CRX to a guy that works for Border and Customs at the Columbus Port of Entry. He lives somewhere in El Paso.
One of these days I want to get up to Arroyo Seco for a track day. I was going to make a slow track car out of mine but I got too old to the do the work.
Nope, haven't seen any parts like that here. Granted there's not a lot of crx owners in town that we don't know. He may have not had the car long, who knows.
how are they holding up today?
They're long gone.
What a tease I'm ready to see the splitter 👁
😁👍
Ive promised myself Id make it to an event in 2020!
You've got 4 months until the first event. Better get that EG put back together soon. Lol
Garage Built Hondas working on it brother
Awesome, it'll be cool to hang out!
Been looking at these for my 5th gen bb6 lude. Its currently on tein springs with blown oem shocks. Super bumpy/bouncy. They have them for $300 shipped. I just might give them a try.
I've liked them so far. No complaints from me.
Garage Built Hondas, sounds good. This is my daily plus the occasional spirited canyon drives here and there. Thanks for reviewing and posting your findings and experience with these. 👍
Garage Built Hondas i finally installed them today on my 99 prelude. Its weird bc i had the fronts adjusted all the way down(as low as i can go, till the bottom sleeve hit the bottom of the shock assembly) and it still sits higher than the rears. I didn’t want to mess or adjust the preload either as that could be problematic. Any tips? I was going to adjust the rears to raise it up to match the front, but i was hoping for at least a finger and a half gap between the tires and fenders on all four.
As it sits, the front has a loose 3 finger gap, the rears have non. It looks goofy. Please help!
Verified the fronts are fronts and vice versa? Correct rates on the corresponding spring?
Garage Built Hondas yep 10k fronts and 8k rears. Ive already sent the company an email about this, but doubt I’d get an answer till next week. Its frustrating as hell. My old tein springs with oem shocks were atleast an even drop all around. I debated on buying new shocks to mate with these tein springs but for the price, I figured I’d give these a try since it would be way cheaper. I’m stumped lol. Another video on youtube where a guy in Australia installed these in his camry experienced the same thing. This sucks man lol. Other than that, they ride pretty stiff. There are no dampening adjustments on this set.
Ive had mine on my db1 for about the same time as you and I like them alot, only downside is the rear is too low and can't go any higher.
Interesting, thanks for that feedback. I wonder if a different fork from another coilover setup would work and give you more adjustment going up??
Yeah Id get a set of these for my dad if they could go a bit higher
Hey how are they holding up ? Just bought some for my da9 but don’t know if they’ll do the job
are they worth for getting them for a daily?
have them on my 96 corolla and for what they are they are good i got the "24 way dampening: model for $250 lol and they work :)
Thanks for the feedback! 👍
Looks like there is a few spots open in your garage for when I get back into the Honda scene :D
Ready when you are Dale! 👍
Are they good for a golf 7.5 gti?they produce noise??or are they ok for everyday use
These are great for daily driven cars.
why are the stiffer springs in the front?
More weight in the front of the car
Another video of car goodness
Are they still gas filled or fluid now? Daily driving thousands of miles i hear gas shocks aren't the way to go. But tbh i have never purchased a pair of coilovers. Im going with yonaka
That's a good question, and it doesn't state on their website. I'll see if I can find more info.
Hey man I can’t find 88-91 civic/crx coilovers on their site. They link you posted takes me to just the home page. I picked up a ef hatch for my next track build and honestly wanted to try these for shits and giggles since it’s on 240k mile stock struts/springs. If I hate them my buddy is gonna buy them and I’ll upgrade to something higher end. Thanks for any help locating where to buy a set of these from.
Look them up for the 92-95 Civic. Those are the same. Use code GBH to save an addition 8% off too. 👍
Thanks man! 🤙🏻
considering getting these for my 2004 civic coupe. it’s just my daily so i just want it to be low and comfortable would u recommend them for a daily?
Definitely!
Garage Built Hondas what’s the adjustability on the height
You can go pretty low. But you can't raise it even close to stock heigh. Granted these are meant for a stock height car.
Garage Built Hondas okay, another quick question, do these come pre dampened or do i have to set that myself before installing
Garage Built Hondas are they pre dampened? Or do I have to set that myself before install?
