@@fixingcarswith15thstautomo36 no metal, just crud build up. It was a customer's car that got frequent oil changes. I believe it didn't like some type of additives. 2005 crv, very clean under 100k miles.
If the intake screen had been completely clogged, would that cause the same exact symptom as this case? (Although not intermittent like this one was.) Also, at 16:00 the new housing has the connector rotated at a different angle from the old, seems unusual.
Anything that impedes oil flow (clogged, electrical failure, etc) will cause a VTEC failure. The connector position at 16:00 is due to the oil pressure switch position. They aren't neccessarily all made the same way.

Very informative.! I had the same problem, but mine had a plugged screen on the side of the engine block next to the power steering pump.
Hopefully not plugged with metal.
