Hi Jugg, I once watched a DVD with Chicago and Earth, Wind and Fire doing a concert together. Do try to get it if you haven't seen it yet. Simply beautiful.
Remember seeing Jason and Chicago in early 1990's. His voice was quite powerful then. I saw him again just before he left the band and his voice certainly took a beating. Loved how he did this song back then tough.
I think this Jason does a good job, never heard this version of the song till now.Plus playing bass is hard enough.Thought I wouldn't really like it...I was wrong!
After listening to this guy, I hate to admit it, but I feel comfortable saying this : he's got what it takes to be the frontman for this band, he know how to sing... and he does it well... but at the end, nobody wants to be compared to anybody else...
I am amazed at how anyone can say Jason Scheff is somehow "better" than Peter Cetera - same goes for Keith Howland - the two (karaoke?) singers for Chicago for the last few decades. For heaven's sake anyone who says that probably has not watched the ORIGINAL version of this song as sung by Peter Cetera back in 1976 (there is one on youtube). So anyone saying that obviously was not exposed to the ORIGINAL Chicago lineup prior to 1985, which is about when Cetera left the band. The video of Cetera singing this song back in 1976 is also a live performance. It is flawless, pure and simple, and he was blessed with a unique voice and knew how to use it. In contrast, and from a strict technical perspective neither Scheff or Howland comes close to Cetera's vocals. In my opinion that fact is amplified by another fact: Cetera wrote the song!!! I am not saying these two other guys don't have decent voices, but from a technical perspective it's impossible to avoid seeing that especially Scheff kicks into falsetto quite a few times (verboten by true vocalists in most cases). In short, anyone that says Scheff or Howland vocal talents "are as good as" Cetera's (when he was in his prime) are probably the type of people that say any "replica" is good as the original. But how can that be?
@ezach1966 i saw chicago with the doobie brothers two years ago and was the best concert i had seen and i have seen a few. the encore with both bands was amazing !! i did see them with earth wind and fire and it was pretty awesome as well !! chicago has a knack for bringing out the best in others
Great job here by Jason. Cetera was just gifted with the Voice. He sang this strong and high with no falsetto. It was just natural and didn't sound pushed. Check out Chicagokid's video of the 1977 version, and hear the difference.
Certainly different, not seen this before...to used to the other version...but are they all live..the others...cetera wise..I wasnt certain...this...lots of vrass...nice keys..
Just heard this singer for the first time here. He is brilliant. I like Cetera as well, but my god,, that guy Jeff did an amazing job. I really love it.
Cetera had a unique voice and “if” he used falsetto, you couldn’t tell. There is a clear falsetto shift here. He is really good though. It’s like saying the other singers after Lou Graham were better than him. Different, not better. You can pick his voice out of anywhere. So smooth, like Cetera.
@JohnathanPozzi well the guitar player in THIS version is DeWayne Bailey (sp?) and he never sang it. Keith Howland? Never heard him sing. Scheff IS a talented singer, but there is NO ONE like Peter Cetera
To say anyone else sings this song better than Peter would definitely be an opinion and DEFINITELY not a fact. That comparison is like comparing the strength of a lion to a house cat. Peter being the lion.
I didn't say that he's not good, just that he don't come close to Peter's performance for this sound. Peter's voice sounds more "natural". He pushes a little in the falsetos.
the show must go on. cetera left so they found a replacement and the band is still as popular as ever. cetera thought he was bigger than the band. he was not !
I like this version. Jason was certainly in the zone with a great band behind him. It's not fair to compare anyone to somebody like Peter Cetera and why would anyone want to.
INCOG NITO because it's not fair that they they forced him to try and sound like PETER after what they did to him , it's sad for them because no one could EVER match peters voice or any of his performances !!!!!!
ilove Jason Scheff's voice... he continued peter ceteras job as a lead vocal.. hes voice is very fantastic...he is also goodlooking... we cannot compare cetera and Scheff's voice they have different quality..and they have different style..
One would only draw the conclusion that Jason Scheff couldn't sing if they were expecting to hear a Peter Cetera sound-alike. If you heard this song for the very first time and Jason was singing it, you'd probably rave about his voice. I personally like his quirky vocal technique.
I have come to agree with you about hearing the 2nd person singing a song - but I love his variations also (or quirkiness). Sometimes the 2nd person does a better job - though Peter and Jason are equally awesome in my book!!!!!
At least Jason sings to his audience. Cetera in his Chicago days always appeared to just sing to his mic and bass, not making eye contact with the crowd...
You are so right - I hate that Dawayne left them!! Jason equals Peter Cetera even if the tone is different between their voices. Jason is more mellow and Peter is more sharp it seems to me!! Dawayne is awesome as a singer as well as a guitarist!!!!
Don't know, but it's definitely in the 1986-1995 range. PC left in '86 and it was in 1995 when Dwayne Bailey, the guitarist in the video, was replaced by Keith (Karaoke) Howland.
Saw him live when he was young and his voice was very strong and was able to sing in the tenor range with ease and projected well and had a powerful expression for this song that was a different interpretation of the original by Peter. His voice declined towards his last years with Chicago. But if you listen to Cetera sing this in more recent years, he actually sings in a lower key.
Jason was awesome here. He was not trying to replace Peter, He was just doing his job. Long live Chicago.
Hi Jugg, I once watched a DVD with Chicago and Earth, Wind and Fire doing a concert together. Do try to get it if you haven't seen it yet. Simply beautiful.
I love Jason Scheff and Dawayne Bailley. Both of you are the best
Fantastic performance !!almost reach the Original version..
Remember seeing Jason and Chicago in early 1990's. His voice was quite powerful then. I saw him again just before he left the band and his voice certainly took a beating. Loved how he did this song back then tough.
This is fantastic and seems to me like maybe the best performance of this song on youtube.
La mejor versión a mi gusto
Love at 2:54 the keyboard notes and at 3:14 the way Jason varies his singing notes!!
Jason was the perfect choice to keep the chicago sound alive.
I am with you he have one great voice ? Jason scheff is the best
1:45 played like a true artist
By far the best version of this song.....
Is it just me that I prefer this version than the original one?
This song unforgettable.. .+5 Chicago' trumpets is best...
Great horns - takes me back to the 9th grade!!
Hmmm, Jason looks much better than Peter ;-)....How cute!! I have never heard him sing before...not bad at all! Thanks rushman1989!
2:54 or after ---- love those keyboard sounds!! Whole song is awesome!!
Beautiful love
I think this Jason does a good job, never heard this version of the song till now.Plus playing bass is hard enough.Thought I wouldn't really like it...I was wrong!

but I feel comfortable saying this :
he's got what it takes to be the frontman

he does it well... but at the end, nobody wants

I like the sound of brass instruments.

+ericsattic The irreplaceable isn't replaceable ill tell you that. It's not and never will be Chicago without Peter Cetera.
Michael David I totally agree !!!!!!
Que linda cancion .... sin palabras me deja cada vez que la escucho
@ezach1966 i saw chicago with the doobie brothers two years ago and was the best concert i had seen and i have seen a few. the encore with both bands was amazing !! i did see them with earth wind and fire and it was pretty awesome as well !! chicago has a knack for bringing out the best in others
"If Peter leaves us now He'll take the biggest part -- "band on the run" without their singer.
Definitely sexier than Peter❤️

this version is great and jason is really hot
It sounds perfect for me hehe
He might not be as good as Cetera but it took a lot of guts to do this song after Peter and his huge ego left the band.
um dos melhores arranjos do século vinte.
nobody can replace PETER CETERA for chicago they are good now but with PETER they were GREAT!!!!
super song!super voice!love it!=D
The Best one in Live
Porque eu escuto essa música e não páro de pensar em você meu querido Vladimir... Se você me deixar agora,
Você levará embora a maior parte de mim.
Ah the debate rages on after all these years lol. Jasons the man. Cetera fans cry me a river.😅
love his singing, great job.we have to come over it that bands are touring with other singers...because they can't touring without a singer.
abı yaslandık be... gıdıcıyız bu dunyadan... hep genc kalırız sandık ama hayat bır solukta aktı gectı... ellerım bomboş... allah affetsın.

Jason and Cetera are greaat!!!!

Michelle M I don't agree , no one could EVER match Cetera's distinctive voice !!!!!
Yeah both are great and THEY WOULD NOT WANT people to down on and praise the other!!!!
good singing ..really good
ジェイソンの声、大好きです😊❤
Certainly different, not seen this before...to used to the other version...but are they all live..the others...cetera wise..I wasnt certain...this...lots of vrass...nice keys..

Nobody lasts forever... Even Cetera is replaceable...
Hellz Yeah and well said!!
Just heard this singer for the first time here. He is brilliant. I like Cetera as well, but my god,, that guy Jeff did an amazing job. I really love it.
More very best,very good

@1986federer uhhhmmm, it was Peter Cetera who sang the song originally, and this guy is no where near him.
A MISTURA DE KINHO COM IURY CANTOU CERTO 👍😎
wow!!! Jason sings awesome here! better than Cetera? of course!!!
@champfan0 Sounds like they dropped this song and others down an octave. Is that because he can't hit these high notes anymore?
Gsling talaga ni Jason Sheff po
Very good! This guy has a ton of soul. I prefer Peter Cetera however.
If that's a joke it's a good one. If not, even better
Just found out he is the son of Jerry Scheff, famous Elvis and Doors bassist
not necessarily better than cetera, but definitely every bit as good!
Matt L. No one could ever sound as good as peters distinctive voice !!!!!
I LOVE JASON SCHEFF’S VERSION
Jason's version bring me much more emotion than cetera's
Not bad
Yes
Não
😂😂😂😂 yeah right !! ?@leafl75
Excelente musico e cantor!! Deu cara nova a esta linda canção!!!!!
Yup Jason can do more than Peter
I like this version. Jason was certainly in the zone with a great band behind him. It's not fair to compare anyone to somebody like Peter Cetera and why would anyone want to.
YEAH - both are good in their own way!!!! We miss Dawayne on guitar - I wonder where he is now.
INCOG NITO because it's not fair that they they forced him to try and sound like PETER after what they did to him , it's sad for them because no one could EVER match peters voice or any of his performances !!!!!!
Sounds like a good tribute band.
scheff does a great job. his own way. doesn't try to copy cetera who is also great.
ilove Jason Scheff's voice... he continued peter ceteras job as a lead vocal.. hes voice is very fantastic...he is also goodlooking... we cannot compare cetera and Scheff's voice they have different quality..and they have different style..

+Max Pankau The original singer always does it better than their replacement.
I have come to agree with you about hearing the 2nd person singing a song - but I love his variations also (or quirkiness). Sometimes the 2nd person does a better job - though Peter and Jason are equally awesome in my book!!!!!
I love u Jason. Scheff
dont care if its jason or peter.. this song is so nice! :)
At least Jason sings to his audience. Cetera in his Chicago days always appeared to just sing to his mic and bass, not making eye contact with the crowd...
Cetera yes .. but this guy has feeling too in his voice .. wow !!! Fab version of a classic!
What year was this recorded?
Awesome video!
Ps ... Jason Scheff is way better :)
I know Cetera was great but Jason has a special thing about him as well and I will miss him
@ezach1966 you are right on ! it was a pretty flawless song. perfect blend of voices and instruments with Scheffy leading the way
I love Jason , warm voice.. Great both.. Everyone with different style..
love it jason scheff..my favorite
The guy who's singing is just hot with that vest.
I love this version of the song. Jason Scheff vocals are terrific and this is when Dawayne Bailey was in Chicago. Awesome...
You are so right - I hate that Dawayne left them!! Jason equals Peter Cetera even if the tone is different between their voices. Jason is more mellow and Peter is more sharp it seems to me!! Dawayne is awesome as a singer as well as a guitarist!!!!
Jason's voice has that groovy ring on it. Love, love his locks 😍
meravigliosa..
Wow,jason voice is amazing, good job jason,
I don't know if you've seen Cetera solo, but suffice to say Scheff sounds more like the original version than Peter does these days.
He's good real GOOD !! very gifted. such a nice voice...like silk. GOD BLESS YOU!
This kid does an OK job, no one sings it like Peter Cetera, sorry, only my opinion, and I have been listening to the group since 1970!!!!!
this is the best version of this song other than cetera ive ever heard
Don't know, but it's definitely in the 1986-1995 range. PC left in '86 and it was in 1995 when Dwayne Bailey, the guitarist in the video, was replaced by Keith (Karaoke) Howland.
Yes! Definitely better than Peter! I love Jason Scheff!
You must be kidding , not even close on one can replace Peter , he's the best of the best !!!!!!
Jason is wonderful. As far as comparing him to Peter, they both have wonderful vocal qualities.
Such a great voice..
he is better than so many singers be it Cetera or Etcetara
Jason version is amazing, angelic voice..love it..
He's just so damn good. Unreal....Excellent..
P Cetera still has the signature voice for this song.
Love this song Jason sung it with so much emotion great job..
