So first that's what Izzy's saying when he says it didn't do it's fucking job, it didn't protect anyone from anything, but even more touching by taking the legs from the old unicorn and giving them to Izzy it's kind of like they were recognizing him as that, he's the new unicorn, the new champion and protector of The Revenge

Stede's Crew stealing hearts and running off since the beginning
Izzy was in the room when the term "doggy heaven" was coined and Stede wasn't. In the moment when Stede asks if the crew sent Ed to "doggy heaven," Izzy has to rapidly change his assessment of how close Ed and Stede were, and how well they knew each other (and honestly I love that for him).
Think back to the montage Stede saw when the Spanish were trying to hang him in 1.3, and it was his father and wife (neither of whom was a comfort). When Ed's life flashes before his eyes, it's all happy memories with Stede. This show breaks my heart and puts it back together again.

Zheng Yi Sao (basically, Zheng Yi's wife) is one of the most successful pirates in history, perhaps the most. She had a fleet of ships and instituted what might be termed a no-rape policy. She did not have an all-female crew. She actually lived quite awhile after Stede and Ed.
