    Air quality isn’t a new problem for Indonesia, of course.Jakarta’s air has been heavily polluted for years.
    Jakarta’s poor air quality is the result of the perfect storm of pollutants: numerous nearby coal-fired power plants, transport emissions, manufacturing, household emissions, construction, road dust, and open waste burning. All of this takes place on a daily basis in and around the Greater Jakarta region, affecting the lives of over 25 million people.
    as citizens, we have the right to a healthy environment, the right to breathe healthy air.

    Thanks DW documentary team for your great work. As one of Jakarta citizen, I also concern with our conditions. Every morning, I can see the sky is not clear.
    Yes, too many transportation. Even MRT and Transjakarta (public bus) has been operating, but the numbers of online transportations and privates are still in high numbers. Many people still associates transportation ownership with the "social status" or pride. And also capitalism, the transportation manufacturers companies and governments did not do much to contribute this issue (they only mention as part of their CSR, but thats not enough).
    Raising citizens' awareness to offset their carbon footprints and donate some money won't be easy.

    Air conditioners and driving around in cars is just ignoring the problem all together. I know most people who use them to escape air pollution don't care enough about the implications of these choices. Plant more trees and protect green cover and live sustainably. Every small effort matters.

    Vietnam has terrible air pollution. Anyone wanting to take on the problem of air pollution can look to Electric (instead of petroleum) scooters. These will make a huge change in those kind of cities.

    • @thanhhoainguyen3458
      @thanhhoainguyen3458 9 місяців тому

      In Hanoi especially, the motorbikes are only a part of the problem, and not even the biggest one. All those emissions from all the factories around Hanoi, and all the burning of trash everywhere, especially by the unaware, uneducated civilians, as well as dust from constant construction everywhere, are a bigger problem. Only moving to electric scooters won't solve the problem, especially with the millions of cars clogging the streets of Hanoi since the last 5 years or so, with ever increasing numbers.

    They live in Jakarta. I live in Hanoi. In comparison to Hanoi, Jakarta is a clean city. I have 3 air purifiers running at home 24/7, and even that is not enough sometimes. Every time we have to go out it's with a mask. I have to send my daughter of 21 months old to kindergarten and I cannot find not even one that cares about the air-pollution. One has air-purifiers in every room, but when I came to inspect it, the windows were wide open, and the pollution inside was the same like outside that day 100 PM2.5 (yes, I have a machine to measure it. I became that paranoid). There is no solution to this grave problem, but to escape this miserable city, but I work here. How do I make a living outside? I have no choice. My daughter's health and my whole family, as wel as mine, including my mental health, the stress of not being able to do any outdoor activity, especially sports, really gets to me. And the corrupt government in VN does NOTHING to fight the situation.

      @Impersonal Immigrant Why not, when we have nuclear fusion reactor we could create every atom from hydrogen at the same time we are making energy. :)

      @ WOW you have no idea how a fusion reactor works...
      Tell me more, what we can do with this technology...

    •  3 роки тому

      @@ickebins6948 Really, so I need your explanation. My thought is that in common there exist two different solutions how to get energy. Firstly by Nuclear Fission where atom is split into two atoms and secondly by Nuclear Fusion where two atoms are combined to form different atom. So by second reaction which is mostly used in stars and supernovas are created helium from hydrogen and all matter except dark matter. So my idea is that creation of new atoms from another two by nuclear fusion :) (but it could not be energetically effective)

    They chose deforestation, now they should enjoy the price they paying for the choices they made...they could have found other ways to earn livelihood..there is always better options and healthier to healthiest options to choose from to earn livelihood.. Palm trees plantation for palm oil.. hectares n hectares of land from small landlord lands to forest were used and taken for growing only palm trees.. they shouldn't complain.. they have no right to complain for what they have chosen.. they did that to themselves, now face it and bear it.. and teach ur children how to pay the price for ur choices...
    And keep increasing population, and create more concrete jungles.. this people and the people all around the world seriously doesn't have any common sense.. what over population does..
