Dude, I WHOLE HEARTLY AGREE! From superheros, to video games, to even ANIME! We can’t have nothing, they’ve all been hijacked and now we gotta make new properties but that’s gonna take forever!
Capitalism values low quality products that can be pumped out, leaving no one satisfied during and after the process. I think everyone would rather have a show like Arcane, made with passion and time than 50 new adaptations of video games made by people who don't give a shit to turn a profit. But this is the system we all endorse, the price we pay for quantity. And yet we are still being ripped off.
all they had to do was strike a balance between showing gore and violence without making it all about horror, balance it with comedy and you’ll likely bring in a new audience who can handle the gruesome moments
"without making it all about horror" Yeah maybe Sweet Tooth _won't_ be a psychotic serial killer who just wants to have the highest KDR before he goes to hell.
5:38 Drew Gooden made a video about the writer’s strike that might answer your questions here. His video was mostly focused on the issues surrounding how the film industry handles their treatment of writers in general, but given the issues he talked about of writers not being given sufficient context, payment, being quickly tossed out so they can’t advise the actual production of shows and movies that they work on in order to cut costs on writer’s wages, it’s very easy to imagine how tired, stressed, mishandled and mistreated writers can easily start making a lot of mistakes with more complex scripts, especially ones involving very subtle elements like comedic timing and such.
They could have shown an infinite amount of other things, like the combat, Calypso being Calypso, introducing the contestants and their vehicles, hell just Sweet Tooth with his head on fire.
Sweet Tooth is so underrated as a creepy clown. Also how low is the show's budget if they can't even bring back the fire from the latest game? A videogame can make a badass cgi fire on top of a bald man's head but a tv show couldn't?

Still reeling from the unfathomable reality that the Netflix Resident Evil adaptation was talking about "Zootopia Porn". I don't know how much worse it can get from that.
Book adaptations, too... The Wheel of Time is one of my favourite high fantasy book series, the first book came out when I was born and the last couple of books were completed by a different author (Brandon Sanderson) because the original author (Robert Jordan) died before finishing the series. Then they make a show out of it and it's completely divorced from the story of the books and it's garbage. Breaks my fucking heart, man.
That's not too dissimilar to what happened with Eragon, actually. The book is supposed to be enthralling (I haven't read it), but the film is... lackluster.
I remember discussing with friends about a potential Twisted Metal series. If possible, having one episode dedicated to each essential character from the franchise would be a good build up. The last episode being Calypso introducing the Twisted Metal tourament for season 2
I was expecting something like each episode or a few episodes going through the character's backstory and story. Like how Twisted Metal: Black handled the campaign for each character, minus the parts that tie it into having the same gameplay segments.
Twisted Metal: Black was by far the most intense and full-throttle game in the series, even had a few small jokes thrown in here and there. I hate how they're probably going to ruin the franchise like this.
Eh, the best vengeance is by treating it like it isn't even in the franchise. Look at LotR. Rings of Shit isn't considered to be in the LotR universe by most fans, and it did terribly because of that. Let them have their bad shows and lose money because they refuse to stick to what the real fans want. They'll suffer for it until they get good
It's been over a decade god damn it, I don't think a Twisted Metal COMEDY TV SHOW can ever get as much hype and fan support as a remaster with polished controls would Man I miss this game so bad
Honestly this show will probably put any hope of a sequel in the grave. Usually if a piece of media does bad companies and share holders look at it as consumers are disinterested in the product rather than realizing that the writing and quality of that product was shit. So unfortunately we probably won't see twisted metal for another decade after this show
I do too, very much. Crossout doesn't hit the same, the Warhammer car combat game is pretty good, but it STILL doesn't hit the same as a simple game of Twisted Metal does. I actually bought a PS3 JUST FOR Twisted Metal 2012 -- only to be disappointed when I realized there were only 3 playable characters, the online was a broken mess, and they'd added RACING STAGES and those weird electric cage matches...it was fun, but it was a mess. If we do get a new game, it's going to be a garish mess with no story, play to win online, and they'll blame the failure on FANS, and I'll be dead before it gets done justice.
I still remember the Jumper movie from way back in the day. I could list the details it shared with the book faster than I could list the differences. They basically just used the name.
Charlie is literally me, Twisted Metal 2 was one of my favorite games growing up and watching the trailer without seeing a single car was absolutely soul crushing.

“What should we adapt for our next made-for-piss-cock video game tv show after Halo?” “A niche game series that hasnt had a new entry in a decade” “Perfect”
I agree so much with your sentiment about not knowing who the audience is. Like, they aren't appealing to the fans, so that's out. But it's also not a good show on its own so there aren't any other people who would like it. It doesn't make any sense. And then the company loses money and goes "welp, guess video game adaptations just don't sell _shrug_ ." It's so frustrating. It's like they're trying to make it bomb on purpose and I literally have no clue why.
Man, Twisted Metal’s one of my all time faves. It peaked with TM4 for me. Didn’t really like Black, specially the intro story of No-Face (couldn’t unsee that). So many amazing tracks that I got from those games too. I remember how friggin’ OP Sweet Tooth’s spec was when you unlocked him in TM4. You’d literally destroy opponents with like 2 specs or 1 spec and a few missiles.
As a guy who loved reading sci fi novels as a kid I always wanted Isaac Asimov's Foundation to be made into a film or a show. Then recently they actually did it and I was excited, although given the way tv is these days I was a bit worried about what they'd do with it. Turns out I was right to be worried as they completely destroyed it. Couldn't even finish it I was so angry and disappointed.
It was fucking awful. The last excellent sci-fi series I watched was The Expanse. Hell, I'd kill for Firefly to come back and retcon the film so Wash could shine.
A proper adaptation of the Twisted Metal franchise (video games and comics) is the furthest thing from a mainstream, PG show. All the characters are based on different mental disorders and the backstory of some of the characters is absolutely beyond brutal. It deals with very heavy emotional subjects like guilt, grief, trauma and unaliving and just the capacity for human beings to be absolute evil monsters and it doesn't hold back on the mental imagery. A proper adaptation would be amazing but society ain't ready for it. And probably only HBO could do it well, not hecking Peacock.
I’m betting they just got stuck with the Twisted Metal IP and decided to squeeze what profit they could out of it while groveling for a bigger franchise
The Last of Us is proof what happens when you actually care about the source material. It should be the golden standard for every movie/TV show adaptation of a video game
I think they're making Sweettooth more like his Twisted Metal 1 version. He's crazy but in a somewhat comedic insane Joker way. He kills but makes jokes and is generally nutty
Here’s a fun little story. I looked up “old clown game” because I wanted to find it from 9 years ago and I did (bewilder house) but under it I saw something intriguing and decided to take a look at it. It was the cutscenes for Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal. I had no idea this show was being made

The depraved stories conjured up in the Twisted Metal series always seemed to fit a world like HBO's "OZ". Twisted Metal has unlimited possibilities just within it's simple story of wish fulfillment. Can't say I'm surprised. Halo opened the door to allow networks to take a precious series and just take a steaming dump on it.
Man if twisted metal got scooped up by the same people who made game of thrones we would be getting something special I think. Peacocks had some hard flops from some good ideas too.
Twisted Metal Black has some of the most guttural, thought provoking story telling I have ever witnessed...it's gonna be a real hard pill to swallow watching the franchise morph into some cheesy throwaway TV comedy.
This is the new trend. Source material doesn't matter to writers. This is also why they go so hard against fans, the people who know the source material and can call it out. It's either laziness or spite. They want established names because they think people will just accept it and shower them with money.
At this point I wouldn't be surprised if they made a "for a modern audience" Fossil Fighters with Rosie being the owner of Vivosaur Island and the protag being made fun of at every opportunity because he still uses the beginning Altispinax you're given.
man hearing Charlie bring up The Witcher and the 3rd season about to come out just has me fuming again about how dirty the EP and writers did Henry Cavill (i'll never get over that "anonymous" hit piece from a "source" on the set that Deadline put out about him trying to paint him as toxic and sexist on set but the worst tangible credible slight they had against him was...he really liked the source material and wanted to stay true to it...and he liked to play video games in his free time on set...the nerve!) and how much disdain they have for the Witcher franchise in general. Nothing against Thor's brother, but i really hope for everyones sakes The Witcher (and all its even worse spin offs) gets cancelled fast after season 3 ends.
I remember playing through every character in Twisted Metal Black because I loved the game AND I wanted to watch and see everyones stories get played out and animated. There were times where I would play the game just to go to the cutscene section and watch through an entire characters story like a show of its own. These teasers are an absolute disgrace to the series.
The clowns name isn't Sweet Tooth. That's what his car is named. The clowns name is Needles Kane, a more destructive alternate personality of Marcus Kane that took over.
I feel this down to the quantum fabric of my being, but with fantasy and sci-fi aspects of my childhood as well. This is the era of abject entertainment atrocities.

Omg sorry for you:(
Dude, I WHOLE HEARTLY AGREE! From superheros, to video games, to even ANIME! We can’t have nothing, they’ve all been hijacked and now we gotta make new properties but that’s gonna take forever!
Hardly the issue with reboots kind of ignores the issue
Capitalism values low quality products that can be pumped out, leaving no one satisfied during and after the process. I think everyone would rather have a show like Arcane, made with passion and time than 50 new adaptations of video games made by people who don't give a shit to turn a profit. But this is the system we all endorse, the price we pay for quantity. And yet we are still being ripped off.
@Don't Read My Profile Picture you're mom must be proud
Double negatives ruined ur comment.
@Flare lol
all they had to do was strike a balance between showing gore and violence without making it all about horror, balance it with comedy and you’ll likely bring in a new audience who can handle the gruesome moments
I imagine a show like Future Man.
Yay! I love it when they water it down for the masses!
"without making it all about horror"
Yeah maybe Sweet Tooth _won't_ be a psychotic serial killer who just wants to have the highest KDR before he goes to hell.
Seems tough to do for modern show runners to not just have random gore porn moments.
I don't know why people had any hopes as soon as Anthony Mackie's name was connected to it
This is the equivalent to making a show based of the Manhunt game into a family sitcom

Charlie already made a video discussing the writer’s strike so I think he’s already aware. Maybe it was a rhetorical question??

They could have shown an infinite amount of other things, like the combat, Calypso being Calypso, introducing the contestants and their vehicles, hell just Sweet Tooth with his head on fire.
Sweet Tooth is so underrated as a creepy clown. Also how low is the show's budget if they can't even bring back the fire from the latest game? A videogame can make a badass cgi fire on top of a bald man's head but a tv show couldn't?

Book adaptations, too... The Wheel of Time is one of my favourite high fantasy book series, the first book came out when I was born and the last couple of books were completed by a different author (Brandon Sanderson) because the original author (Robert Jordan) died before finishing the series. Then they make a show out of it and it's completely divorced from the story of the books and it's garbage. Breaks my fucking heart, man.
That's not too dissimilar to what happened with Eragon, actually. The book is supposed to be enthralling (I haven't read it), but the film is... lackluster.
the best part about this is the Peacock ad sitting right below Charlie the entire time
I remember discussing with friends about a potential Twisted Metal series.
Give this man a medal
Twisted Metal: Black was by far the most intense and full-throttle game in the series, even had a few small jokes thrown in here and there. I hate how they're probably going to ruin the franchise like this.
Eh, the best vengeance is by treating it like it isn't even in the franchise. Look at LotR. Rings of Shit isn't considered to be in the LotR universe by most fans, and it did terribly because of that. Let them have their bad shows and lose money because they refuse to stick to what the real fans want. They'll suffer for it until they get good

Man I miss this game so bad
You know it's real when Charlie couldn't be bothered to center himself
I still remember the Jumper movie from way back in the day. I could list the details it shared with the book faster than I could list the differences. They basically just used the name.

Asimov is probably too cerebral for a great adaptation. What works great as a book in this case may not translate to the screen.

Effort is a rare commodity nowadays.
Times like these remind me to be the change I want to see
Effort was never the prime motive of the studio system-profit is, has been, and always will be.

Even OZ was hokey as shit. It didn't age well.

This is the new trend. Source material doesn't matter to writers. This is also why they go so hard against fans, the people who know the source material and can call it out.
It's either laziness or spite. They want established names because they think people will just accept it and shower them with money.
