    I've had mine for about 6 weeks. Absolutely loving it. It's absolutely massive inside and very comfortable. It's no sports car (get the 5N if that's what you want) but the ride is controlled enough and super smooth. Great mix of physical and touch buttons, no menu diving to get to the important stuff. Can even turn off lane assist and speed warnings with a long press of the lane and volume buttons respectively. Very very happy with my choice of first EV.

    Having driven the Ioniq 5 and several competitors back to back I have to say this is truely great car. It is much more refined than the Tesla and the combination of physical buttons and screen(s) makes it much easier to drive and control without taking your eyes off the road.

      I drive a Tesla because it's the safest, most efficient car you can buy right now. On top of that fantastic software (updates), Superchargers at low cost wherever I go, always quickest acceleration for its price.... Etc. It's a coincidence you know the ceo of Tesla. Pretty sure you have no clue who leads the South Korean brand. On top of that: Tesla is the only 'Western' product on offer against the Chinese. So why buy something else? Having driven both the Ionic 5 and the Tesla Model Y, I would always go for the Ionic 5. Not because the Tesla look like a bar of soap, but because it was dull as a dish washer to drive compared with the Hyundai. The Tesla felt like an appliance - the Hyundai like a car, more specifically it had a surprising resemblence to a Saab 9000, a car I always loved. (Also, the recent craziness of Elon backing a known criminal to be the US president makes me never want to own anything that he has created.)

    It would have been better if they tucked the rear wiper underneath the rear spoiler for a cleaner look. I suppose it is to make sure the people, who threw a tantrum about the car not having it before, see the wiper at first glance.

    • @sbomorse
      @sbomorse 18 годин тому +2

      I guess it's because the spoiler has openings at the top. They actually had to increase the battery sizes because of the reduced range the wiper created because of it disrupting the air flow/increased drag coefficient.

    The most interesting review comment came early in the piece and was that this car is bigger than a Landrover Discovery Sport. In our household we already have a Discovery Sport for towing a horse trailer, and I already find it too big for day to day driving, always assuming I am allowed to disconnect the trailer. So with no disrespect to Nikki this might possibly be an urban/suburban mums’ Chelsea tractor to bully your way through the school run rather than a car used by a single driver without passengers. What I do like, which Nikki pointed out, is that Hyundai are doing rapid and continuous improvement to the car. Not for me.

    No doubt : the ioniq 5 ! 3 years ago, I could choose between model Y and Ioniq5, and I drove them both. My verdict is without hesitation after 3 years. On Ioniq 5 side, the best of breed aspects are : charging, design, and OUSTANDING build quality to which the Model Y is incapable to compete. On Model Y side : the best electric efficiency on the planet, full self driving and outstanding software. But personaly, I am completely allergic to its design, only the model S is elegant. And model 3 just "OK"

    I tried one back in 2021 when I was looking at a family EV as a company car, along with an Enyaq and Q4. I remember it being huge inside, very smooth and easy to drive but had an odd shaped boot - very tapered and shallow. Ultimately I ordered a Q4 due to the deal at the time.
    Fast forward and I’ll be changing cars next year and this is now one of the cheapest large EV’s on my scheme. I still love the looks and the basic one in red comes in under the £40,000 luxury tax band, so it will definitely be on my shopping list again.

I do miss the rear wiper on mine, and the winter range is low (100%=198 miles may be to motorway speed) I regularly travel 200 mikes one way, in summer I could do the trip in one go with 70 miles left, now I have to top up half way(122 miles). Other than that brilliant car.

  • @Yanquetino
    @Yanquetino 19 годин тому +9

    No, they haven't "ruined" it, but I am happy that I bought my 2024 model. The rear window wiper is nice, but you don't really need it with the digital rearview camera. I like my wheels better than these. The 84 kWh battery is an improvement, but it only adds 9 more miles of range to my top-of-the-line AWD. No big deal. While the buttons on the console are welcome, I have a pet peeve against front-to-back cupholders and much prefer my side-by-side ones. I do wish my frunk had that additional room. The only thing I would change in mine is to make i-Pedal constant. It's irritating to have to engage it every time I start the car. Tesla? Hell, I got rid of my Tesla to get my Ioniq 5, which is a much better EV.

      I agree, our 24MY Ultimate has more driver kit as standard, nicer wheels, better looking bumpers, and a cleaner looking boot lid.
      A rear wiper isn't needed, it has good sized door mirrors, and rear view camera if needed.
      The extra battery capacity of the 25MY adds a bit of extra range, but simply driving with restraint adds range. We can exceed the WLTP range in ours, providing it's driven sensibly.
      Hyundai did add a rear wiper, and seat heater buttons, the latter is an improvement, but removed the standard 360° and blind spot cameras from the Ultimate model, so for me it's a backwards step.

      In our experience, the lack of rear wiper is a minor inconvenience. 1/2 of our previous cars haven't had them, so we don't really miss it. The I-5 has a brilliant rear camera (360° view on our Ultimate), so it's not like a wiper is vital.

    @johnnodge4327 15 годин тому

    I think the 2023-24 MY were the best of the bunch, we have a 2024 Ultimate spec. The 23-24 came with a 77.4 kWh battery, up from the launch model's 73 kWh battery, which gave a reasonable increase in range.
    The interior and exterior styling stayed as per the launch model though, which the wife and I prefer. The pre 25 Ultimate also has more standard kit for the driver, but slightly less in the way of range, due to the larger battery of the 25 MY version.
    The useful 360° camera and side view camera which was standard on the previous Ultimate are now optional, as are quite a few other bits n pieces.
    Also sport mode doesn't actually give more actual power, just the throttle response is sharpened up. Even in eco mode, full power is available when planting the throttle. But the pedal is much more progressive than in sport mode. There are also 6 levels of regen on the I-5, just like the Kia EV6. There's auto mode, 0, 1, 2, 3, and I pedal. We just leave ours on auto mode, which is pretty clever at applying regen when needed.
    In all we love our Ioniq 5, especially as it'll do over the WLTP range if driven with restraint on favourable roads, in favourable weather.

    09:33 what the hell is this sun doing in the UK ?

  • @reiniernn9071

    At the start:
    The car is not 1m8 width, it is 1m89 (nearly 1m9 width) Those 9 cm can make a big difference in your garagebox.
    3:20 It is usefull that you can change the position for the middle armrest.
    My wife is much shortyer than I am, so she has a chair position much more to the front (pedals). She can put that armrest in her perfect position when driving. And I can put it in the for me most comfortable position.
    And it helps, pulling it backwards) if you cannot leave the car at one side due to a wall /gate or other car close bye...easier to switch inside to the other side of the car.
    Very nice to have this bigger battery.
    But iI'll not replace my project 45 for a new one soon. After 80000 km it still driver perfectly well.
    Why should you drive this car ever in sportsmode? It is more a travel car for longer distances...smotth and confortable drive.
    And a warning for this fast recharging.
    Read carefully how to preheat the battery , especially in winter. Without that it won't charge that fast.
    (My project45 needs to know which charger I'll go to by the navigation.
    Enter youre target and than add the wanted charger from the list of chargers along the route.
    There is not something as a "preheat button")

    This is the problem most EVs are far too big, the ioniq 5 will not fit in most garages and also on shared drive ways. we need smaller EVs please.

    Hyundai said the batteries were made bigger to compensate for the drag from the new rear wiper and reduction in range it produced in testing.

    • @dguy321
      @dguy321 18 годин тому +2

      No, they wouldn't have said that because it's not true.
      The wiper sits where the vacuum forms while you're driving, which is also why the rear window gets so grimy and needs a rear wiper.

      We just wash the car once a week, which is all that's needed to keep the window clean.
      For us a rear wiper is a nice addition, but not then end of the world if there isn't one fitted.
