The strict gymnastics teacher was played by Philip Casnoff his character Ilya Korska who was Bulgarian but in real life Philip Casnoff is American and in The Simpsons the gymnastics teacher Lugash was from Hungarian and he is based on a real life gymnastics teacher Bela Karolyi who is part Hungarian and Romanian.
There's a scene where Munch & Fin interview an old woman in a nearby apartment and he tells her "You saw it or heard it,and if you don't speak up" followed by something in (I think) Greek. The woman fearfully asks "You would curse me?" to which he replies "Every day" I've been trying to translate his threat for years and even Greek friends of mine can't figure it out. The reasons I think it's Greek is because as they're leaving Fin says "You talking Greek, you full of suprises" and the woman says "My Grandfather lived to be 105, on Ouzo and silence" (Ouzo being a popular aperitif in Greece).
When they notified Ilya telling him that Lori had been arrested, he called her an imbecile. They also told him that she wanted to see him and he said, "soon, after nationals." In other words, never. It makes you wonder how she took that news.
This episode really points out the struggles that athletes put themselves through from very early on in life to become great. Constant training, dieting, self-induced vomiting, dating much older people. You really gotta show respect to these kids 'cause they give up their entire lives to win.
"The struggles they put themselves through"? You mean the torture that the adults in their life force them to do. Young athletes like this are manipulated, used, and made to feel worthless unless they can perform. They get body issues, intimacy issues, work-life balance issues, and for what? Their parents to have something to brag about? Their coach to recruit more clients? This cycle takes in young girls who are passionate about a sport and spits out damaged, traumatized young women. They're not "giving" anything up, it's being taken from them. They deserve respect in as much as every human being deserves respect, but even more than that, they deserve pity, and compassion, and someone to fight for them. To say we should respect them for what adults do to them valorizes their suffering, romanticizes the awful things that happen to them, and suggests that the athletic achievements they get as a result are somehow worth the abuse. It's honestly an abhorrent mindset to have and I'd hate to meet anyone who thinks like you in real life.
Idk how I feel about this one. It’s obviously not premeditated. And extensive periods of starvation and deprivation have been proven to really interfere with someone’s ability to make good decisions I think I’d hope the DA would go easy on her. She’s not sorry now but a week of eating actual food and rest and she might come to her senses
@@12thDecemberIdk, OP had a point. You can be incredibly jealous, but still able to control those emotions and impulsive actions. But when a person is starved, malnourished, and stressed to the brink, that’s what would wear someone down and push them over the edge.
This is a splendid episode. That is Kate Mara as a young gymnast. And, no, this is not depicting the Tonya Harding situation. That was done in s4 of the original L & O.
Another reason why I don’t do sports or competitions. Sometimes it clouds your judgement by competitive spirit; others is envy towards one’s teammates and their talents. When the coach acted like playing with the pains to achieve trophies. The human willingness is found in so many people, but the coach wanted his team to win. No matter the cause! If I were judge, I’d put the coach in prison for pushing his team too far for too high. It is his fault. Along with the parents who did love their kids like real parents do.
Youth is a curse! You don`t need to have somebody to love you. All you have to do is value your worth and love yourself. When you are young, you don`t know this. This only comes with age, experience and wisdom. 😞😓
The Gymnastics Teacher has the same accent as the one from the Simpsons.
"He's cat now"

Little sociopath changed her tone in a split-second.
Her last Lin, “She made me do it.” is classic domestic abuser excuse.
Not only her tone but also her expression suddenly changed as if she was throwing suspicious glances from side to side before proceeding.
Or shes just not a very good actor

Made a post on Reddit in r/SVU. "S02E09 Pixies, what did Munch say to the woman?"
Huh. From the video title, I am surprised this episode is not a take on the Tonya Harding scandal in Olympic ice skating.
It said gymnastics tho
L&O did do an episode on that! they changed it to tennis players. I think it was on original law and order, but it might be an SVU ep
@@londonm3161original L & O, s4
Too late. They did that in 1994. Original L & O, but changed it to tennis players. Lame episode. This one is better.

not when it results in said kids getting killed, either by each other or their older partners
@@ALUCARD-us3il No, of course not.
Respect, no. Pity, yes. Everyone manipulates them.

Nah. I’ve lost two friends that played the same sport as me. In the same fashion

That's an interesting perspective. But in the end, her seething jealousy is what pushed her over the edge.

Today, this coach would be banned due to how he treated the ankle pain.
10:12 "She made me do it." Blame the victim. Classic.
In loving memory of Richard Belzer (John Munch). 🙏🏆🫂♥️
I was a dancer (Ballet, point, tap, latin, etc) had a Coach just like that.
6:40 Cabot standing behind Cragen like she’s in charge of the SVU squad lol
Armand Schultz must've had his own dressing room on the L&O sets - I've seen him in about 4 episodes so far.
ah, sports rivalry. glad i'm not an athlete. those fans get violent, too.
We need some Law and Order: SVU episodes that are based on the Larry Nassar scandal with other Gymnasts,
Yes! And Bela Karolyi.

Now we know what happened in Hayden’s past before she met Ben Harmon and died in the house 😂
Little did they know that gym coach actually worked for the Russian mob.
Pain is the price of glory
Kate Mara always plays a crazy chick.
