Slop has always been popular on UA-cam. It used to be that the slop was positive slop though. Now the slop makes you feel sad or mad, but never glad. I'm fine with slop, but I want it to make me feel glad again. Like cute puppies being themselves, or rescue bats eating food, or a rabbit yawning. What happened to my daily diabetes, why is it gone? That slop was great.
i find myself chronically feeling as if youtube videos aren't as 'real' as they used to be. a lot of posts do not feel genuine anymore; the goal being money and not sharing a passion with an audience
Oh hell yes! It’s so weird to see almost every UA-camr do ad reads or start shilling products in the middle of the video. I mean I get it, I want independent creators to survive and thrive it just feels like suddenly there was a mandatory edict where they had to readings for ad revenue. Idk, it felt like one day last summer a switch was flipped and I would watch one video on chickens or something then UA-cam was like “oh hell ya bro u like them chickens here’s 10k more to watch!” Then everyone was doing a 5 second pre-roll ad read then that stopped. I found now I’ve become really selective about what I watch. Oh and I can never find a playlist I suddenly remembered was cool like from a year ago! Can’t search for it and if I don’t remember the exact name might as well be in a black hole.
Oh absolutely! But I think it is difficult to nail down where exactly this feeling comes from except the obvious channels ofc. One thing I do wonder, does the overwhelming presence of paid promotions inherently make content feel synthetic and corporate?
Videos titled "The issue with modern advertizing" or something and 2 minute 30 fucking seconds in the fucker starts shilling earbuds/supplements/scottish titles/etc.
I agree. I know we would not have many good and well thought out content we have now if money was not involved but I really wish money was never a option with youtube. Passion and quality videos will ultimately take a back seat or almost be nonexistent when trash and desperate for fame/wealth people and channels get involved. This could be said for all social media and why things are the way they are.
glad that this is reuploaded 😁 also about video essays, there have been so many times i've clicked on one expecting in depth commentary and analysis of literature or movies, and it ends up just being a summary... JUST a summary. with some little flairs personality in there. and that's not bad, but it's not an essay in video format... it's a summary. if i want to get the gist of something with an interesting personality as the storyteller, i would absolutely just watch my faves do that, and i do! 90% are NOT slop, video essays 'disguised' as summaries aren't slop, i just happened to latch on to that one mention of video essays in this video lol. it just gets tricky when trying to navigate youtube for a type of content with a phrase that is overused and generalized
made me think of the cartoon critics. Adventure Time fans are especially guilty of talking about how deep and mature and profound the show is, and then their essays consist of summaries of individual episodes that just tell you its deep, pushing it to the ten minute mark - ironically the same length of the episode. at that rate i could just watch the show myself and feel much more of an emotional impact if i did so, like there's no point to content like that
@ you're so right. in that case i'd actually call that slop, something random to put on with little substance added than if you were to actually just put the show on in the background... and if you actually pay attention it's just a voiceover summary (and calling stuff in the show dumb, forgot abt the critic part) with (usually) subpar matching visuals. maybe 60% isn't even matching it's just some sort of gameplay lol. anything very obviously pushing the 10 minute mark already gets my skepticism. but hey, a cursory look at why people really love a certain show is very welcome at times. the mass produced videos on 1 subject shouldn't be meant to be watched back to back, or it gets very old fast. i think that leaves genuine fans of the covered media disappointed when they want more discussion and interesting viewpoints, because that's the closest thing possible to 'new content'. that's how i feel anyway lol. thanks for the reply!
Yupp absolutely. There was one I clicked on recently titled something like "The Insane Impact of X" and I was thinking "oh cool, it'll be all about maybe people who started on that show and became big names/went on to work on well-known projects, maybe how it's influenced the industry or even impacted people who watched it, etc. But nope, it was just... recaps of every episode. Like you said, I'm fine with those kinds of videos! I like them, even, when I know that's what I'm getting. I am not immune to flipping on a 5+ hour Quinton Reviews vid to play in the background while I do other stuff. But I don't like when content creators will dress up low-effort content as a "video essay" or blatantly lie to me in the title, inflate the video length as much as possible, and then expect me to watch it when I clicked on it thinking it would be a totally different video. I miss genuine analysis past nostalgia bait "remember x?" and it seems like we're getting less and less of it nowadays, maybe because it just isn't half as profitable as the alternative
@@allstaraussie3629 I know your intentions are good but you're making it worse by replying to bots. Replying to them in any way increases engagement which encourages more bots. The best thing to do is to report and ignore.
In so many ways, animation is the complete antithesis of slop. It is both one of the rawest forms of human expression, and holds one of the highest skill ceilings in any art form. It takes a gargantuan effort to produce an animated film, but returns a fraction of the money that commentary videos produce. However, it leaves a near everlasting impression on you, moreso than most other videos on youtube barring that of the highest form of video essays, and old iconic videos. If you combine beautiful animation with amazingly made music, it elevates that experience into something that feels like it was synthesized through magic. my favorite example of this: imaginary express by snails house (animation by somon & soresaki)
@@cosmiceyness Yea how dare a person who specializes in a form of human expression, bring themselves into a conversation about human expression. Go back to making eye candy for me to scroll through so I can watch a computer do it. Art, more like fart.
This made me think that this is just like how some people view celebrities and how some people need to know everything about them all the time, even the useless shit. But on a more niche scale. At the end of the day we are just sitting on our asses consuming drama that doesn't even matter
It's not these content creators that bothers me, it's actually trying to find that one channel that goes straight to the point and delivers the information we're looking for from the thumbnail/video title. Guess UA-cam is slowly going down the drain.
@@manachromeYT when people refer to being tired of "AI content", you know exactly what they mean. text to speech is not "content", it's a speech aid. don't try and "oh but what about this extremely niche usage of AI that helps a small group of people?" around it. you *know* they're talking about generative AI, aka AI that hurts everyone and is destroying the internet, not AI usage that helps people with disabilities or the kind that scientists and doctors use.
Saying that all uses of generative ai, with that said, is something that “hurts everyone and is destroying the internet” seems like an incredibly unnuanced take
*The UA-cam Slop Situation just got Worse* (Reacts to the entire 41 minute video live while pausing almost every 10 seconds to recount & summarize what Raymundo said and both justifies and embrace being labeled as slop. End result; an approximate 1-2 hour long unedited stream highlight response)
it's somewhat inevitable. As he said "slop can be subjective". For me this is less of a slop and much more informative and well done than many others, he's talking about what could be an issue. But, as this is still commentary video, it could be seen or likened as well to "slop", however if we call anyone who is being more aware or showing others an obvious trend everyone is almost sick of as the same of what they described in every way, then it could also be a stretch.
To be honest I’m actually pretty glad that someone is addressing channels (like SunnyV2, Moon or even Acheeto) who not only that I don’t like, but just tired of seeing them show up in my recommendations. Especially the anxiety that comes to logging in when I hope to at least have a decent time when I’m on this platform… then BAM! One of their videos show up. What’s bad is that they have become good at branding their content that will make you feel stupid for not clicking on the video to suck you in to what they have to say about a certain topic, whatever that maybe. Not to mention the other kind of anxiety to make you drive to the comments section to talk sense to the creator or defend the said topic in case if it’s false or misleading. So for spreading the awareness, I thank you for that Raymundo! Now if I remember from your original video of this subject (or I may have missed it at the beginning), I think you mentioned how you encourage us to go to find the original source of content to save a bunch of time and sanity. I still think that it’s still decent advice for that instead of watching some other content creators reacting to it and say things that “That’s incorrect, that’s so CRINGE!” or something like that.
Someone in the comments from the first version of this video also acknowledged that those creators you mentioned are also very right wing, or have alt-right dogwhistles - which makes UA-cam pushing them so hard in the algorithm so much worse to me imo.
UA-cam stoped being a plataform for creative content. When people say "filthy frank could never happen today" i agree not because his humor was edgy but because nobody cares about originality anymore. He would never be as famous with pink guy today. It is really easy to turn on the camera and gossip for 8 hours about what is happening on the internet and make thousand of dollars. Pyro is the last one that put artistic effort. So does Idubzzz but people are way too invested in hating his wife to admit to it. It's just sad.
Not quite. What we are living through is just another avenue of UA-cam developing. Really, of culture developing. This kind if thing has happened a lot. All the good content is still there, there's just another boring, unproductive industry. And, to be clear, it's been there for ages. If you're not finding originality on UA-cam, you're genuinely just not looking in the right places. Which makes a lot of sense because you probably watch most if your UA-cam from your recommendations tab seeing as it's the source of 70% of all UA-cam views. So what you're clicking on is affecting what you're being recommended. Because that kind of content appeals to people's interests, you might end if clicking on it more often. I'm not saying it's a none issue, it's just not the death of creativity as you say here. It's more of a favor towards sensationalism causing an algromithic problem that has existed on this platform since early days. We're in later stages of online content development in general, this is the result. People have gotten good at the game of content. It reminds me a lot of the gradual development of advertising in society.
@@adailydrawingmustache4604 preach! and no one will admit to what you are saying is the truth I'm on youtube 24/7 and i can find anything from slop to great creative videos made from the heart and soul
@@adailydrawingmustache4604 Literally bro, yet they just blame the algorithm and not themselves. Just type up things you like and there ya go! Watch Captain Eggcellent for secrets/easter eggs, watch Cinema Wins for his positive breakdowns of film etc..
You're saying that just because you watch commentary channels exclusively, otherwise I can't explain it. I like some good slop every now and then and I understand why Pyro does it, which is to maintain his main channel. However, I watch video essayists, education content, mini-documentaries, etc. I do agree that they're not a majority because UA-cam rewards consistency and it's almost impossible to make very high quality content without the burnout that comes with making said content once a week, or even twice a month. Which is why I watch a lot of slop. They distract me while I'm waiting for quality content that comes once a month from other creators, if I'm lucky. Protip: the best creators who also made UA-cam their career usually have a patreon so they can fund their good stuff that comes non-regularly, and/or are on Nebula.
Turkey, Tom and mudahar are the worst offenders. Turkey Tom for spreading rumors and false information and mudahar for talking about serious subject matters for things he knows little to nothing about
It would be, if viewers like you and me would stop watching them. It's as much the fault of the audience that encourages the sloptubers to continue making drama videos as the people who make them, if not more.
I genuinely believe Critical is the root of this problem. When everyone saw all of his painfully low effort drama videos pop off they hopped on the train. I can’t stand him dude.
Who the fuck are you and what do you even mean by commenting this? This is why Gen alpha shouldn’t be on the internet. Entire generation of fucking retards
I think a great example of this is, I can barely remember anything I watch on youtube entire days can just be lost to it. I went to a local pub for swift pint or 3 and a bit of pool. I can remember more of that one game of pool, how I get 3 in a row and then chipped the ball off the table. The conversations I had etc. Than the 3 - 4 hours of youtube I watched afterwards.
Yes, the exact thing I've noticed in my life too. I'm much better at remembering times and places where i read a book rather than when i was watching youtube for hours
i definitely think this version is more well put together than the original! im sorry that it got taken as a drama video, thats an uncomfortable situation to be in, but you handled it super well. you really took a more thoughtful approach about addressing what defines slop and why exactly its bad. ironically ive watched a couple other videos talking about this and they all usually say the same thing without anything new... it sucks watching videos hoping to hear something new and just getting regurgitated info, but i know i dont have to worry about that with your videos :) happy halloween!
SomeOrdinaryGamers has to be literally only so called "slop" youtuber that actually puts any effort into researching before he makes his videos. All the others (including penguinz0, but i still like him) just ramble into their mic without a care in the world if what they say has some nuance or is factually correct. Prime example of this is that Nux guy.
I saw his photo & that’s what made me click into this. My first thought was “get this man OUT OF THIS THUMBNAIL 😭” he’s awesome. I love his dark web stuff. Great for views I guess.. worked on me 😭 (SomeOrdinaryGamers)
I want to make this point, a lot of these channels that are on the Older Side, would consistently make fun of youtube reaction channels especially black for similar reasons but then immediately hopped on the Streamer "react to every controversy on tiktok/twitter" when they saw the amount of money they could make from just having in-live opinions which is dangerous due to misinformation and lies that can easily be circled, while it can be corrected, UA-camrs need to realize we aren't going to be there for every correction as well
I absolutely hate those titles like "This game/film ruined this company" but doesn't actually show the thing in the thumbnail so you have to click it to see and it takes them 5 minutes to show what they mean
yeah like I've been watching one and he (I'm assuming gender based on voice) goes into it with the grabby title, but then actually tells you step by step what was actually planned for the movie, vs what came out, and why it didn't do well (or an educated guess) and it's like so different because usually it's "this one scene changed this one movie" and they just either never tell you the movie until the end, or the scene was the hugely popular thing that everyone knows about already. Like... this could have been an email and you made a powerpoint presentation.
@@zeebooboo9663 Yeah I hate that about his channel. I usually pop in, skip to the part of the video where he gets to the topic, and then look it up myself.
There's a difference between getting peer pressured and take criticism at heart in order to improve. So, Raymundo chose the latter and even stated in the Community Post that his research and writing feels flat. If he chose the former, then he wouldn't have re-uploaded this video by now.
Slop is literally why I use extensions on my browser like sponsor blocking extensions and DeArrow. There is soooo much clickbait and the same types of thumbnails everywhere.
I never understood the appeal of podcasts or streams I can not stand listening to people just ramble about nonsense 😭 its why I love really well put together and edited youtube videos with the most important and relevant information (like your videos :)
For me, it's the only place where I can get it, all my friends moved away at the end of high school and I'm still just, here. It roughly fills in the void left by real people, and honestly I feel pretty pathetic over it.
This is the greatest slop commentary repost of All Time. In all seriousness, I always viewed slop content as a means to have something to play in the background while busy with anything else. Relying on info shared from commentary channels isn't trustworthy, but it did allow me to learn about the most recent online news (especially as a user who rarely checks the news).
moistcr1t1c4l is a great doing-the-dishes watch imo. if the subject actually interests me, i’ll find a better video about it/go to the source afterwards
My favorite background slop for house cleaning is a LetsPlay channel. The games are all horror, but the guy has the most soothing voice in the world without getting into the annoyances of ASMR. His voice & nonstop talking actually annoyed the shit out of meat first, & then days latter I was craving it.
I'm happy a lot more people are speaking up about the slop problem youtube have with their genres (especially drama commentary, i really hate that type of slop personally) and it's all thanks to you, t3rr0r and as well as flazefire, with this we hopefully won't have to deal with bad commentary made by people who doesn't actually care about drama anymore but until then "the Raymundo 2112 situation is insane V2"😱😱😱😱😱

@@OMEGA-l0v3rno, there's no more originally in art anymore, just theft and more theft and more theft. There's no such thing as honor among thieves either.
I can't tell you how much I appreciate this nuanced take on the subject. Other videos on this that I've watched are so overly negative and something felt so off about them to me (almost shaming? Guilt-tripping?). I think it's easy for others to be hostile and pigeonhole things they perceive as harmful, but in the end I think it drives away the people who need to hear it most. One man's slop is another man's hbomberguy
I'm tired of all these youtube drama commentary videos. I mean, it feels like youtube is some big courtroom where all people do is condemn and judge people all day. Yeah some people are bad and should be exposed but all the videos just dragging on the drama are just ridiculous. It's like youtube has just being a slop pit of misery and condemnation. Yeah I get it, EDP is bad, Onision is bad, Mr. Beast is bad I GET IT. I wish there was less hostility going on and more happy stuff. UA-cam used to not be this way.
ALL the vtuber news channels seem to fit the slop definition tbh: a habit of milking every major vtuber drama that comes up, and filling the runtime of the videos with stream clips with no additional commentary, and there is almost NO real news you can get from Vtuber Drama channels that you can't get straight from the source. Wanna know what Ironmouse is up to? You go to Ironmouse herself, no one else.
Bruh I was legit trying to find your channel 😭 I had an old comment that I vividly remember and spent like 10-15 minutes combing through my email to find your channel lmao. I was also low-key glazing in that comment.
There’s too many podcast and basement daily streamers doing nothing. I miss when people put effort. The audience is the problem for not having more brain cells.
Yea, he used to make really good videos around the early skyrim days but when he turned from a "funny gaming videos"-channel into a commentary channel his content turned into garbage
Since this is a reupload, I guess I'll just put in my comment from the first video to the best of my ability: It always sucks to see a creator that you enjoy turning into slop over time. I supported and enjoyed D'Angelo Wallace's videos back when he made art, but I recently stopped because he was uploading drama videos almost every day, and I got tired of hearing about the latest twitter discourse that I don't care about, or the latest celebrity who I never heard of getting "cancelled." I enjoyed Penguinz0 from his Real infomercial series, and I was around when he first showed his face and played around with 6ft d1ldos. The only videos he uploads now that have even the slightest hint of the old Penguinz0 I enjoyed are the tier lists, and even that is turning into slop. I'm so tired of "drama" that I'm just gonna start touching grass.
yayyy!! i am so happpyy!!!!!!! we are of the same opinion! a few years back, i watched d'angelo's review of the after hours album and it legitimately had such an impact on my life and how i view music! i really, really loved it! fast forward to today and he's saying tyler, the creator should take down the album 'goblin' from spotify to prove he's really sorry or whatever.. i was genuinely so shocked that someone who in the past had such nuance and understanding when it came to albums could say something like that at all. his comment section is full of people celebrating the fact that he's making videos daily, but to me it's just clear that youtube is a job and no longer a hobby. 24 hours is enough time to research the tiktok drama content he makes now, but anything that requires more thought and the videos are obnoxiously biased or (in the worst case) inaccurate. i'm sorry for ranting i jus wanted to share my experience! i lit. can't watch his videos anymore because of how fast food they are.
i wish cr1tikal went back to talking about goofy situations - or things that were ACTUALLY goofy. like 3am videos, or if he's going to talk about a situation that's somewhat goofy but still on the serious side at least put some charisma into it, right? i just can't put my finger on why i find it so lifeless now. his content almost feels the same, his speaking mannerisms almost feel the same, but it's just not as funny. i am considering that it's just because I've watched him for a while and got tired of his content, but when i go back to watch him make fun of the Travis Scott burger or the Karen apocalypse i find those hilarious all the way through to the end. so i don't know the specific reason. maybe he's just not having as much fun talking about these as he used to? feeling passionate about what you're doing goes a long way and well, cr1tikal? it's basically just a job for him now. seems to work
AI slop is a huge problem, and I got recommended an AI slop... not realizing it was AI slop until I noticed that their on-screen narration is incorrect sometimes and now this video helps me differentiate between a real person and AI slop. Ughhhhhh
Commenting my thoughts while I'm watching. Right now, I realized how much slop and commentary content waste my life and I'm trying to fight back against that. I refuse to watch any commentary slop content anymore. I'm also fighting back against short form content addiction 😅
Might I recommend UnTrap for UA-cam? It's a browser extension that I use to block most short form content, and any that I do watch gets redirected to a proper watch page like a long-form video rather than an endless scroll. It's great because it means I make a conscious effort to choose to watch each and every short just like I do with every video
I used to be able to find anything to watch just from the homepage. Now I can tell which video essays are low effort synopsis summaries or drama summations from the typical thumbnail and inflammatory title they use. UA-cam is becoming the thing you have on in the background just to have noise on. The algo is totally to blame
Here’s my take, it’s slop. But thats what the majority wants. Slop. Everyone attention spans are insanely cooked. So people wanna listen to some guy spit “slop” about their new favorite drama. It’s just business. If people watch it keep doing it.

Keep up the good work!
That's the whole point. Don't you remember having to write essays in high school and/or college? You state your idea and then back it up with evidence and logic. The whole point is to convince the reader/viewer through sound reasoning.
That’s what a video essay is supposed to be, though. Essays are usually argumentative and are providing evidence to “prove” an argument. That’s what differentiates them from commentary videos, which are less structured and more based on the personality of the person making the video
@@Betelgeuse2142 Never understood the point of them. A person putting so much effort into a video about their opinion on the one thing that either isn't important to begin with, or will eventually never be relevant. I keep forgetting what you look like during your vids, and every time I get jumpscared by a dude looking like the front of every romance novel ever /pos
I feel like making content creation your full-time job is bound for this to happen, even among more skilled UA-camrs Many of them most likely do not care about what they're saying. So long as they get views and revenue, they will make more mediocre videos if it pays the bills.

I mean I get it, I want independent creators to survive and thrive it just feels like suddenly there was a mandatory edict where they had to readings for ad revenue. Idk, it felt like one day last summer a switch was flipped and I would watch one video on chickens or something then UA-cam was like “oh hell ya bro u like them chickens here’s 10k more to watch!”
Then everyone was doing a 5 second pre-roll ad read then that stopped.

It's not these content creators that bothers me, it's actually trying to find that one channel that goes straight to the point and delivers the information we're looking for from the thumbnail/video title. Guess UA-cam is slowly going down the drain.

This this this ^^^
You this this channel is slop? It's definitely odd but I wouldn't consider it slop
it's somewhat inevitable.
The next thing we'll see is how another youtuber will comment on this video xD

Since this is a reupload, I guess I'll just put in my comment from the first video to the best of my ability:
It always sucks to see a creator that you enjoy turning into slop over time.
Dude, Charlies gameplay and commentary was his most fun videos. He is really funny when reacting to something fun, like a shitty game.
i wish cr1tikal went back to talking about goofy situations - or things that were ACTUALLY goofy. like 3am videos, or if he's going to talk about a situation that's somewhat goofy but still on the serious side at least put some charisma into it, right?
i just can't put my finger on why i find it so lifeless now. his content almost feels the same, his speaking mannerisms almost feel the same, but it's just not as funny. i am considering that it's just because I've watched him for a while and got tired of his content, but when i go back to watch him make fun of the Travis Scott burger or the Karen apocalypse i find those hilarious all the way through to the end.
so i don't know the specific reason. maybe he's just not having as much fun talking about these as he used to? feeling passionate about what you're doing goes a long way and well, cr1tikal? it's basically just a job for him now. seems to work

Slop but long form: Pyro when he makes a long video on his Pyrolive channel that's still just slop and getting things wrong.
Who's the guy on the right of ChatGPT, on the left of Charlie, on top of MrBeast, below Nikocado Avocado, north-west of Turkey Tom, north-east of Sensitive Society, south-east of Moon, south-west of Mutahar and very far away from Pyrocynical?

I was like 3/4 through the video before I actually heard it after reading your comment

Great video! I appreciate the honesty and willingness to private the original video (I didn’t watch it, so I can’t criticize it), but I appreciate the willingness to listen to different perspectives and internalize the good criticism and work to create the best content you can. Keep up the good work!
Video essays always feel like they are trying to prove why their opinion is correct snd why everyone else's is objectively wrong
Not to mention most of those people don't really care about the things they're making videos about.
@@kierangrossman1814 No one should treat them as fact no matter how good the video is
I about died when you pulled out that Ukulele... jfc I have PTSD from that instrument 🤣😭 (that drama was insane!)

I feel like making content creation your full-time job is bound for this to happen, even among more skilled UA-camrs
Many of them most likely do not care about what they're saying. So long as they get views and revenue, they will make more mediocre videos if it pays the bills.
YESSS MY GLORIUS KING HAS UPLOADED ONCE AGAIN
Hate stream clips, my algo is completely clean of all that
Why
i get this, i like Charlie but when his videos are just edited stream clips I'm not watching it. idk why, it just feels like regurgitating content
