Hey there I love hearing interesting, terrifying stories about the ocean from people who've experienced it first hand. Would you tell me some? If that's ok
The next King Tide hits the Pacific coast today (Dec. 13th, 2020) and tomorrow, with 19' swells forecasted for tomorrow. It would be great if you could capture footage of this new activity as well!
Been there lots camping every year at Twin Harbor State Park really beautiful camping there really cool trails to the beach all those areas are susceptible to tsunamis they are at sea level hope it never happens. Great fishing! 👍🙋♀️

I'm from the east coast: does King Tide happen at any particular time of year - or can it happen anytime ? So spectacular: the sea is beautiful, powerful, scary and deadly.
In fairly simple terms, the biggest tidal range will be at a full or new moon (known as Spring Tides). The range is also marginally higher around the equinoxes. However, weather will play a large part. If you look for storms in the ocean, you’ll probably have large waves two or three days later. If all these things coincide…then it should be pretty spectacular. Continental shelving etc will also play a large part…but that’s pretty consistent. It’s quite easy to find places where the waves are habitually large. Hope this helps..
People use the term King Tides for all Perigean Spring Tides or for the Perigean Spring Tide closest to Perhelion (around January 3rd/4th) Spring Tides are higher high tides and lower low tides that happen on full and dark (new) moons. Perigean Spring Tides happen during Spring Tides when the moon is in Perigee (closest to the earth). So find the dates of full and new moons closest to Perigee and that will be the Perigean Spring Tides. Remember not to conflate tides with waves, higher high tides don't necessarily mean heavier waves. Waves and tides are not the same.
@@micahgelfand8282 They're simply Spring Tides close to Perigee. Spring Tides are on full and dark (new) moons. Perigee is when the moon is closest to the earth. Perhelion is when the earth is closest to the sun, around January 3rd/4th. Perigean Spring Tides at Perhelion are even larger than regular Perigean Spring Tides.
@@pncarcone Why would it be higher around equinoxes? I get that they're higher at Perigee and even higher at closest Perigee to Perhelion. But why equinoxes? I don't see how that effects gravitation union of the moon and sun
It appears that the tides and oceanic flooding of inland areas are growing yr to yr. King tides are nothing new...but as a resident of western Wa...I can say...the sea level sure appears to rising rapidly!!
I hope that the "Jetty Cats" and Raccoons made it...and I bet they did...they have survived many many "wave actions" and they know where to hide and shelter. But, Bless them anyway!!
Remember not to conflate tides with waves, they are two different (but sometimes related) things. A King Tide is usually defined as two things (weirdly), a Spring Tide at or near Perigee (aka A Perigean Spring Tide), or a Perigean Spring Tide closest to Perhelion (those are the biggest Perigean Spring Tides) Spring Tides are higher high tides and lower low tides that happen on full and dark (new) moons. Perigee is when the moon is closest to the earth. Perhelion (around January 3rd) is when the earth is closest to the sun. So find a full/new moon closest to (or on) Perigee and you'll find Perigean Spring Tides.
Love the footage-amazing tide and waves. Would rather hear the ocean sounds than the music, though.
I was disappointed that there was music!
Many drones don’t record sound - all you’d hear would be the props in many cases.
The choice of the music played isn’t bad, but I prefer the natural sea sounds.
That’s why you set up a mic on the tower 🤷♂️ #pros 😂
@@jakelee4438 that’s an idea! 💡 😃
Dang! Great angles, great presentation, great music, great timing!!!
I'm so jealous!!!
As usual, I see some Darwin Award candidates standing along the Jetty. Respect the Ocean folks, it’s truly unforgiving.

A tide is not a wave.
Best King tide capture I've seen 👏
Wow, spent many a day surfing out there in the 90's. Never saw the tide get that high!

Great footage! Washington coast can be brutal...
Beautiful!
Nice! Live in Ocean Shores & wish we had a watch tower like this
That was awesome capturing that 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Such a cliffhanger! Every time the wave is about to drench someone, the camera switches.

excellent job
Wow I used to live in Westport back in 2013
Did the cats down on the right end make it????
In that first shot, is that Oean Shores in the background across the water? What kind of camera trick can make it look so close? That's amazing.
Wow, incredible footage. There's some pretty high tides coming up in a few days time!
Hell of a wave 🌊
I live here, it was pretty crazy!!
I'm from the east coast: does King Tide happen at any particular time of year - or can it happen anytime ?

Consult a tide chart. The tides are predicted years in advance. There may be some slight local variation but its down to a formula

Really beautiful waves ❗
Great editing!
That's the tower by the groins just past merino's seafood.
The tides for worse and came into town at the marina

Nice. I've been to Westport in the summer. 😀
It’s a great place year round imo.
Wonderful!!!
I think they need a bigger sea wall.
Y’all need a bigger wall real quick - awesome footage 🤩
Ain't no wall big enough to stop Mother Ocean.
Sometime soon, nothing is going to stop the sea.
very epic and impressive
Nature in the raw is seldom mild...nobody should be standing where the waves could knock them down!
How many times I fed the fish while leaving the jetty at Westport Washington.
Let's hope no tsunami comes
nice footage.
That was powerful
Awesome!
Wow Amazing 😱😱😱
I agree with you rather hear the waves & not the music
WOw that was something
I have much respect for the oceans power!
wow I had looked into moving there.
Parabéns muito bom mesmo Deus abecoi asu vida amei todos escritos amei 🤔😲😀😁😂😂👍👍👍
With a warmer climate , they need a much higher sea wall !
how good is sea level rise??
When the big ass logs are thrown over the stone wall you know it's no joke
I am only wondering htf did they to build that thing
I used live by Westport. I've never known it like that.
I hope that the "Jetty Cats" and Raccoons made it...and I bet they did...they have survived many many "wave actions" and they know where to hide and shelter. But, Bless them anyway!!
They’re gonna need more rocks
We need a bigger wall.
Don't they have a spare one down at the Mexican Border?
I presume this occurrence is usually seasonal, right?

Oh my, the future low tide
epic music epically epics
Those high tide are not playing ,keep your distance .
At first, I thought this was a water park!🤓
so what is the name of the music.....
Pretty dramatic music !
Time to move to higher ground?
De veras cómo hay personas q retan a la naturaleza !! Y si sale una gigante y se los lleva !! Dios qué horror 😱
OMG 👍
No music
&8 years old college grad never heard of King tides until 2020.
The unforgiving power of nature!!
Oh my goodness....I could imagine when the big one hits. That tower will be inundated along with the area with the ocean.
0:15 This buiding Is protected from tsunami ??🌊🌊🌊🌊
🤩
We're gonna need a bigger wall!
It’s a good thing that it wasn’t blowing 50 from the SW!
Waooo sooo.beautifull
How scary
Nice
Salmon fishing off Westport is not for weak stomachs...been there.
Why not build the wall higher?
Very nice bird's eye view. With rising sea levels year after year, there will be a whole lot more of these videos to come.
The sea wants to reclaim that land.
If you were on that platform during a tsunami...not good!
Need a taller breaker wall
Muzak was over the top
Ressaca
i grew up visiting this area, and I never have seen waves like that! I blame climate change.
Just wait until the megathrust
TSUNAMI!!!!!
I wish that there was a version with the sounds of nature only. No musical score unless .....nah, no `unless`. No MUSIC! ITS ABOUT THE WAVES!
Who let tbe little boy go down there with his bucket and spade ? 20.5 ?
