River Surfing in Munich
Переглядів 4906 років тому
Surfing smack in the middle of Munich, Bavaria's capital city. This is the Eisbach, a small channel of the Isar River that runs through Munich's big, central park. Every day, more than one hundred aspiring river shredders line up to surf the continuous, ice-cold wave that rolls through the channel all day long.
Westy fun in Tofino, Canada
Переглядів 1,6 тис.8 років тому
The scenery around Tofino, BC is seriously breathtaking! Watch some of our favorite moments including a beautiful ferry ride on BC Ferries, our beachfront campsite at Bella Pacifica Campground, and the best Salmon Chowder of our lives at SOBO in the heart of this charming oceanfront town. A big thanks to all the people and establishments that made this trip so memorable. I'm sure we'll be seein...

    When the tsunami comes, no one seems to have learned a thing about the power of the Pacific from Japan..everyone will be on the beach waiting.

    The fruits of global warming!

    • @whatabouttheearth
      @whatabouttheearth 2 роки тому

      Warming causes increased sea level from melting of ice sheets and decreased density of water. A King Tide is essentially a Perigean Spring Tide. Even though with warming sea levels will increase, this does not have to do with global warming. Remember not to conflate tides with waves, they are two different (but sometimes related) things. A King Tide is usually defined as two things (weirdly), a Spring Tide at or near Perigee (aka A Perigean Spring Tide), or a Perigean Spring Tide closest to Perhelion (those are the biggest Perigean Spring Tides) Spring Tides are higher high tides and lower low tides that happen on full and dark (new) moons. Perigee is when the moon is closest to the earth. Perhelion (around January 3rd) is when the earth is closest to the sun. So find a full/new moon closest to (or on) Perigee and you'll find Perigean Spring Tides. This is because during the full and new moons the moon, earth and sun are in alignment (Syzygy), this causes the gravitational forces of the moon and sun to be aligned causing higher high tides and lower low tides, basically squeezing the ocean like a zit (not pulling as is usually said). But when the moon is closest to earth (called Perigee) it increases the moons gravitational influence on earth just a bit causing Perigean Spring Tides, so more extreme Spring Tides (higher high tides and lower low tides) (not waves). On quarter moons the gravitational forces of the sun and moon are offset because the moon is at 90° to the sun, this causes Neap Tides, lower high tides and higher low tides. Think of Spring and Neap Tides as a two way, two lane road with solid double lines in the middle. The center double lines are Neap Tides at quarter moons, and the sides of the road are Spring Tides at full and new moons. (Or you can think of it as vagina like)

    Remember not to conflate tides with waves, they are two different (but sometimes related) things. A King Tide is a colloquial term usually defined as two things (weirdly), a Spring Tide at or near Perigee (aka A Perigean Spring Tide), or a Perigean Spring Tide closest to Perhelion (those are the biggest Perigean Spring Tides) Spring Tides are higher high tides and lower low tides that happen on full and dark (new) moons. Perigee is when the moon is closest to the earth. Perhelion (around January 3rd) is when the earth is closest to the sun. So find a full/new moon closest to (or on) Perigee and you'll find Perigean Spring Tides. This is because the moon is exerting more gravitational force because it is at its closest to earth, and because the sun, moon and earth are in alignment causing them to exert their gravitational forces in alignment. I learned to respect the ocean when I was in the Marines, the ocean will make you her bitch if you aren't careful. I got caught in a rip tide at Hidden Beach in Guantanamo Bay and thought I was going to die, the more I swam the more it pulled me out, thankfully my team leader was a Swim Instructor and saved my ass, we were also in some bad storms at sea in old ships like the USS Mount Vernon that were scary, we discovered the captain was drinking on the job and we got him releaved from duty. The ocean is a queen who must be respected.
