So as may of you know from watching, I have a new driver. Yes a new teenage driver. While I think he is a good driver, I don't want him driving as fast as this car will go. SO, in this video I am going to show you how to adjust the top speed of your kids car. This is a simple process and I know it will work on 1996 and up GM vehicles. I believe that HP Tuners also has support for several other models if you check out their website. I also adjusted the rev limiter to hopefully keep the car together longer and out of the shop. I know how I was as a new teenager with my drivers license and I would speed everywhere I went. I didn't have a vehicle that would go fast however. Limiting the speed of a new 16 year old driver in my opinion keeps them from doing bad things and getting hurt before they are experienced. This is very simple and if you don't want to try yourself there are several tuning shops out there that can do it for you. I set the top speed of his new car to 70 but you can make it whatever you would like. I also made it so the car will not rev over 4000 rpms. If you have a new driver and want to slow them down or govern their speed this is what you need to do.Hit the Comments and let me know what you think.......

I actually didn't need a speed limiter when I was 16 to 18 years old I drove like a grandma and they were not available back then. At 43 i probably need one more than ever. Sometimes I love to push that throttle past 100 mph on some of our straight quieter Interstates.

I think that 70 isn’t a good limit as there are highways where the limit is 80. I think 90 or 95 makes a little more sense, and as for the rev limiter if you need to speed up to avoid an accident, these little V6’s only make power in the high rpm’s, so I can understand limiting the revs when in park or reverse or neutral to save the engine, but I think that you shouldn’t have the limiter on while driving when it needs to rev to 6300RPMs to make power

I assume a dealer could do this being that I don't have a HP tuner? We're looking to limit my wifes mother. She runs 90-100 mph with a 2014 Equinox we gave her. Plus she's on our insurance.

I get the added safety, and wanting to keep the motor together but man don’t make this kid be “that guy” that does 70 on the dot he won’t be able to pass semis, you ever had to follow two swift drivers at 65 for 10 miles? And if it’s set at 80 and he asks why it won’t go any faster you have a good reason to question why he was going that fast!

70 really?? What is he needs to pass an 18 wheeler running 69 on the highway. Sometimes not having the ability to speed up can be more dangerous. Just have a talk with him about driving. Or else when he dies get a fast car he’s gonna be a wild man. My dad gave me 100 bucks for every year I didn’t get a ticket.
