    Quality information you're providing! I really appreciate it. My "guy"..who did my 12" lifted, new steering set up, neglected to relocate my track bar from lower mounting point to upper, bump-steer city, says "I've been building trucks for years..it's fine." Needless to say, I've moved on. 👌

      We make suspension and steering kits. If our competitors want to make inferior products they are welcome to do so. We'll concentrate on building things that work properly.

    I have watched a lot of video's like this. You are the first to explain what points to measure from. Everyone other video said to make them parallel but did not say from attachment point to attachment point. After lifting my xj 5 inches with adjustable track bar and adjustable drag link, i added a 6" drop pitman arm. I have really dangerous bump steer. Its a good thing it is off road only now. I need to get make some adjustments now. Thanks!

      Yes, going end to end is key. What's going on in the middle is irrelevant. I've seen many setups where the track bar or drag link has a big Z bend in it making the 2 APPEAR to be parallel, when in fact they are not even close.

    I would like to see a video describing the fabrication of a different style of steering linkage for a "stock" Ford ttb. Not necessarily one that's been cut and bent for pre running but one that's relatively stock. Perhaps even incorporating a TR flip.

      How did you fix this ?

    • @firstimeshooter6590
      @firstimeshooter6590 4 роки тому +1

      Mario Anaya when I first installed it my drag link was at the bottoms of the pitman arm. It would death wobble in almost every little bump. All I did was put it on top of the pitman arm that helped a little. But what I think I need is a longer track back bracket. Because I can still feel the Jeep want to wobble. By no means am I a mechanic or know it all just my experience.

    Hello,
    Your video was great!
    I do have a question though. Is it possible to get bump steer with out a tract bar? I have a truck with leaf springs up front which has no tract bar. I installed an over the top drag link that no longer connects to the tie rod but now connects to above the knuckle. I have a pretty bad oscillation affect where the whole truck feels like it is going to fly off the road. I am trying to investigate as much as possible and was wondering if I could have a bump steer issue.
    I would appreciate your thoughts and suggestions.
    Thanks
    Will

    • @stnkbg1
      @stnkbg1 7 років тому +2

      Yes absolutely. Bump steer is caused by the axle moving in a different path than the steering. Since your drag link swings from the pitman arm it moves in an arc. With leaf springs the axle travels straight up and down. By design there is going to be some amount of bump steer. This is why Jeep put a track bar on the YJ with leaf springs, and why old Chevy trucks have the drag link going front to back rather than side to side.
      It sounds like you may have what most refer to as Death Wobble though. Bump Steer is the tendency for the vehicle to steer due to suspension movement, but it's a movement that doesn't continue. Death wobble is an often violent oscillation caused most often by worn out bushings or steering joints. With leaf springs it can also be from leaf spring bushings or very soft springs allowing the axle to shift side to side. It can also be caused by improper alignment, generally with too little caster.
      This is really a separate issue with many possible causes and I've been working on putting together another video to directly discuss it. There are so many possible causes that it's a tough one to tackle in a reasonably short video though.

    Does this eliminate the need for a steering stabilizer? New to this and trying to figure out my problem and remedy.

    • @stnkbg1
      @stnkbg1 4 роки тому +2

      If your steering is set up correctly and aligned properly there is never a NEED for a stabilizer. They are mainly to give a softer steering feel and to damp out small road imperfections. They do not cause or cure any steering problems though. Sometimes a stabilizer will mask problems, but there's still a problem.

      It is the bushing at shifter linkage on steering column on outside of firewall. Replaced every steering component , and tightened box Allen. Still walked all over road. 01 ram 1500 Dana spicer 44 rear ends stock in 1 ton gm ,and ford 3/4 ton. Ball joint straight axle. Nice setup if u maintenance it. All it was bushing on shifter steering column. Dah , lift pulls on column.

    Can a high steering work with a 3 link front suspension?

    • @stinkyfabracing
      @stinkyfabracing  4 роки тому

      The type of suspension has absolutely nothing to do with the steering other than the angle of the track bar. 3 link, 4 link, radius arms, hell even leaf springs. Doesn't matter.

    Sooo when u upgrade steering u don't need a steering damper/stabilizer?

    • @stnkbg1
      @stnkbg1 4 роки тому +1

      The stabilizer is there to damp out vibration and provide softer steering feel. It's technically not even needed with stock steering and is commonly removed when upgrading to heavy duty parts. Some people like having it and mount one. It has nothing to do with bump steer though.

      The same way it does with a differential, by turning the steering wheel. All the steering components are identical between the 2wd and 4wd jeeps. Only difference is the 2wd has a straight piece of tube with no axle shafts or differential.

      Yes, i do. I also know that the front wheels in a 2wd jeep, or any other rear wheel drive vehicle, are not linked in any way and turn completely independently of each other. I also know you're making a fool of yourself right now.

    • @stinkyfabracing
      @stinkyfabracing  3 роки тому +1

      Well all you've proven is your ignorance here. It is typical because literally every steering and suspension part is the same on every TJ, XJ, MJ, or ZJ. 2wd or 4wd is irrelevant, they use all the exact same steering and suspension parts in the exact same configuration. This one is now 4wd and none of the steering had to be changed.
      Lots and lots of Cherokees and Comanches were sold 2wd btw. You don't need 4wd in a delivery truck or to get groceries, so lots of people bought them.
