People don't appreciate enough all the work that make our food safe, affordable and plentiful. We pick it up at supermarket without thinking about all the work that went into it.
All the farmers, engineers and workers that make this possible really are pillars of our world.

I so much appreciate the farmers, the inventors, the truckers, the factory workers, the shippers, and all who work hard in the food industry world-wide. Always trying to find ways to improve the system, make food safer, healthier, and cheaper. Thank you and hats off to all these people. I also find it funny that there's no comments about cruelty to animals here, as if fish don't have feelings or feel pain. Bleeding heart people are so brainwashed by the media.

When these farms were started in the late 70's, early 80's. They were laughed at. Our restaurants were supported by commerical fisherman and of course no self respecting Southerner would be caught dead not knowing how to catch a big mess of Catfish and put on a fish fry.
But they indeed took off. You can tell the difference in taste from wild caught and farm raised. I still love running a trot line.

Farm raised seafood can never measure up wild caught seafood! I was invited to a tasting event in Seattle and boy I am a believer in wild fed and caught seafood. Farm seafood is fed nothing more than sustenance. When a fish is allowed to be free and eat the things it is supposed to eat then it will actually taste like a fish and not a cardboard sandwich.

Not everyone has access to fresh caught fish just like those of us in the Pacific NW don't have access to off the tree oranges, or tomatoes but seasonally.

@@abhilashkujumon1368 As a former seafood buyer for the walmart corporations , I was headquartered in Vietnam for the company. Excellent housing, very reasonable rent, superior schools and second to none medical care. Before that I was a supervisor with the FDA (Federal food and safety division) in the United States I often single-handedly shut down meat packing plants due to unsanitary conditions and inhumane conditions! I would write up my list of major infractions and give the origanzation 3 days to request a reinstatement. if I saw one of our people loafing on the job when he should have been observing these in fractions, I would terminate him on the spot but he had the union and politicians to stand by his side. I would always take videos and document to the highest degree what he or she was doing wrong and it was very seldom that anyone got their job back. it's so easy to do this the right way! For the safety of the American consumer and for the mercy of the helpless animal. Pork was an especially nasty field of egregious conduct! i'll get off the subject here but how much effort does it take to correctly stun a pig? To the point where he is unable to feel pain. virtually none but you would be amazed at the number of slaughterhouse workers who just don't give a damn or will send a fully conscious animal to his slaughter! I finally gave up and realized that the big money behind The mega meat packing companies had politicians in their pocket and they didn't have to do anything because the politicians would interfere with enforcement and it will all be in vain. Walmart on the other hand is the number one buyer of every commodity in America right down to aspirins! When I heard that they were looking for conscientious seafood inspectors in Asia I sent in my résumé, before long I rode their corporate jet (they have 24 learjets to Bentonville and had a face-to-face meeting and signed the contract at the very same time. I was assured that Walmart truly cared about Cleanliness and wholesomeness of all their food! when I started my job I did it incognito by writing the most economical way I could to the ports, Walking around with my hands behind my back and just observing how it was all done.when Walmart buys seafood Walmart buys seemingly billions of tons! although traditionally the Asian hatchery is not known to be so sanitary and clean and as I studied what I was supposed to be looking for I found different situation in different countries. I would gladly buy and I do buy farm raised seafood from Vietnam You could not force me with a gun to my head to eat seafood from India! When I saw there was incredible what they were feeding these enormous pins of shrimp fry was swine SHIT! India has such a problem with hog shit but they have found a good way of getting rid of it is to dump it in the shrimp pins! there is so many uneaten particles of food and other matter pig 🐷 shit! it's cheap and they finish off the shrimp with Green malachite toward the end of the cycle of growth. Totally grotesque but when Walmart takes the shrimp and puts it under a microscope it apparently passes the test.

But...environmental disaster. These are omnivorous fish that are fed a proportion of wild-caught fish in their diets. Available research indicates basa farming remains dependent on highly unsustainable wild caught fisheries, with a greater volume of fish removed from the ocean than is produced through farming.
