The American Idiot album has some samples on drums (Chris Lord-Alge, the producer who mixed the album, always uses samples on kick and snare). It's incredible how you guys nailed the sound without any sample. Congratulations, this is already one of the best drum channel on YT. Can't wait to see a video about Guns N' Roses drum sound.
@@ArtOfDrumming Compare it to Andertons Sounds Like where they don't even try and get anywhere near. They just pick what ever is cheapest and call it good.
Tre cool is such a fantastic drummer, once I heard his drums on dookie I was hooked,I finally get to see them live for the first time next year,so excited!! Great video too, keep up the great work!!
@@ArtOfDrumming Love the videos. Keep them coming. I learn a lot from them. I never got into the post-Nimrod Green Day stuff. I think my tastes were in a different place when it came out. But coincidentally, I just got “Insomniac” on vinyl yesterday. Haven’t listened to that since the 90s when I wore out the CD.
Love this series. I started playing drums in 1999. As you can guess Tre Cool and of course Travis Barker were massively influential on me. Did my best to learn all their songs. Other drummers I looked up to were Chad Smith, Chad Sexton, Tim Alexander and Danny Carey. Sure there were others, but these were THE drummers I looked up to as a kid and still today.
I started my own band few years back. I strictly played guitar. then we just didn't have a drummer. I grabbed the sticks.. long story short.. I become our new drummer.. played mostly green day covers. tre cools style of drumming came natural to me. :) ps; I love your channel man . I'm gonna be here for awhile. ;)
Just awesome! That bobd snare sound is killing me 🔥 Tré Cool is one of my favorite drummers of all time. Love his sound and energy. Super cool video to watch 🔥
Tre’s old slingerland kit with radio king snare is still the best sound ever. I believe he used coated emperors on top and clear ambassadors on the bottom. Absolutely beautiful warm and rich sound
why am i just discovering this channel?? you did an amazing job with this!!! was always fascinated with drumming styles and sounds. this was a treat to watch👍🏻
I literally bought this snare drum after watching this video and it’s every bit as good as I hoped it would be. Beast of a snare that’s heavy with a beautiful tone and crack!
I had a feeling you’d end up doing this. Every thing about this is great and I like the approach that is using the gear you have to get the sound you want. To answer your question, the driving rhythm guitar style I tend to have I owe to Green Day. It’s still kind of a tradition for me to learn all the guitar and bass parts on their records when they release new stuff. Tré is a drummer I gravitated towards when K could be behind the drums which I can really do right now…apartment. Lol As père my last comment on the Travis Barker video, I see you pretty much got everything except for getting Pascal to dye his hair green. I can imagine the in-office discussion: Staff: Green Day is the next video. Pascal:: Okay, cool. Staff: And it will be two different songs. Pascal: Okay, I can do that. Staff: And we want you to dye your hair green. Pascal: Don’t push your luck. Anyway, love what you do. Keep up the great stuff. 👍👍
Ionian Blue: Thanks so much for your nice feedback. Yes the in-office-discussion might have been pretty close to the one you mentioned ;-) but since we are filming the net episode today with Charlie Watt's Drum sound it might have looked a little strange seeing a green haired Stone ;-)
You guys nail the sound everytime, well done. Please consider recording the drum sounds as high quality multilayered samples (faintest ghost notes to hardest hits, up to 127 verlocity hits per sample) (different tunings with snares on ,off, rim clicks & rim shots) and then selling them on your site. I think the users of Alesis Strike Pro SE, 2Box Drumit & drum replacement software would very much appreciate access to these great drum sounds.
I know that Tre's drum fills on the snare can be super fast eg in basket case, 86 but he also likes to accent on parts of green day songs w the crash 😊😊
That snare drum sound on boulevard of broken dreams was really awesome to hear but I want that controlled sound snare heads with reverse dot. loved to see you guys do the Rob Bourdon Linkin Park drum kit from Hybrid theory, Meteora and Minutes To Midnight to recreate these sounds.
would you guys consider making a video about bands with two drummers, how to mix two drum kits and stuff like that? i think its super interesting and isnt talked about nearly enough imo :-)
Great idea! We did not think about that so far but we will definitely add it to our list. Might take a bit until we get to cover this topic but it already started some great ideas! Thanks for that :)
Pretty good! Although the Zildjian site says that's what his cymbal set up is...they got a few wrong. He uses a 19" A Custom Medium Crash and a 22" K Constantinople Medium Thin Low Ride. Now it's a 21" K Crash Ride brilliant finish. Also, Trè uses Coated Emperor's on the Toms over Clear Ambassador's. The Snare head's change to different models every few years. 1994-2005: Coated Power Stroke III 2009-2015: Coated Emperor X 2016-2021: Coated Ambassador.
Got a question guys… I’ve tried 7 different heads on my steel gretsch 6.5-14… I like the remo emperor x but am not in love with the tone… what do y’all think? This thing sings but tone is a lil touchy even with my tunebot… appreciate yr input
“See honey, I don’t have too many drums.” Me to my wife after watching this. Nice job dude. One question, do you purchase your drumless tracks, and if so where?
If you look up "Green Day drumless", you're likely to find the drumless tracks of all of Dookie, some of Insomniac, some of Nimrod, some of Warning, all of American Idiot, and all of 21st Century Breakdown. You can also find the individual instruments for almost all of these songs or backing tracks depending on what you're looking for. They all come from the videogame "Green Day: Rock Band".
This man's dedication to the wardrobe for each drummer is unparalleled.
lol watch minority905 covers
went all out on the hair gel lmao

That snare on Basket Case sounds awesome. The whole kit from Basket Case sounds really good, but the snare is like an small explosion - incredible

That Boulevard snare sound is awesome. Great job on the whole sound and the playing. That snare sound is incredible, though.

I’d love to see you guys do Carter Beauford’s drum sound from Under the Table and Dreaming. I have no idea how he got his snare to sound that good.
Definitely on our list! Might take some time due to other topics being in production already but make sure to keep your eyes out in the future 😜😄
green day has my favourite tone for all the instruments
This was absolutely incredible. Now I’m off to put gaff tape on my drums 😁
Yes ;-)
Im blown away to the dedication and truth of this, amazing stuff x sounds fucking incredible
This is absolutely genius, thank you for these videos!!
Two of the first songs I ever learned to play on drums were Basket Case & Burnout; still know how to play them by heart.

Dont worry about sampling the cymbals. It takes to long & your hair will probably turn grey if you sample your 22" ride cymbal.
I have the Same black T-shirt ! Bought it in Amsterdam.
