those were impressive results with that gun, right there with 45 acp velocity and weight. I don't hunt really, but I'm the sort that like to get close to things. here in southeast PA the bush gets thick, with lots of hills. I do enjoy long range stuff to. its all good really lol. ironically, I see more deer in yards and on the road more than in the woods.
I found this channel yesterday, to me it’s good because I’ve never seen a paper cartridge made that was cool, looking forward to more videos from you sir
Hey Blackie, I use the same chronograph as you are using. They seem tone temperamental as to the light. I have had luck with no Sky screens when it is overcast. Great Video!
Browells sells a tool for re-cutting forcing cones to put a bevel on the Forcing cone. might make a difference with the back blast. Thanks for the video
So I would like to hear and see what kind of groups you achieved with these two bullets. Also I have been developing my own bullets for impact. Currently I have options in all three calibers. 5- .31 cal ranging from 62- 90 grains. 4- .36 cal ranging from 126 -150 gr. 4- .44 cal designed for the Remington/small colt ranging from 165- 225 grain. 4- .44 cal designed for the Walker/ ruger ranging from 240- 270 gr. Check out over at leverguns 50. He has tested my two lightest. 44 calibers in water jugs, and my heaviest .44 bullet @ 271 gr through ballistics gel. The test was done out a walker, went through all 32" , and the one full load he used hit a velocity just shy of 1000 fps.
Good day Blacky I have used beewax on cones makes them water proof and keeps caps from coming off yet allows them to drop out the way they were supposed to
@BLACKIE THOMAS ... Was wondering if you able to use different loads of powder to compare with the chronograph (If it don't act up like in this video, lol) with Roger & Spencer to see if any different than full loads to see what's more economic like using, example, 27, 30-ish, and full charge, believe it would be a kool video, what do you say?!?? Thank you for your sharing your videos as we are fans of your channel! 💯💥🤠
Blackie, with black powder over the chronograph, I have had much better success using the lights on the chrony shades. Without the lighted shade covers, I have had error after error, changing out to the shades with the LED lights, works every time I have tried with little errors.
I don't think so, if anybody would be aware of it, Blackie would. The bullet is faster than the smoke. Light has more to do with it. If he was really close, smoke may be a factor, but he's far enough away
Blackie , I thought I was the only one that kind of stuff happen to. I have been looking at a used Smith and Wesson 44. Mag cap and ball SS . I do use a 44 Ruger Redhawk for deer hunting with iron sights. Thank You for teaching me more about Cap and Ball I will get me one hopefully very soon. Also Sharing Your Time and Knowledge and Wisdom and Passing On The Craft. You Are The Master Woodsman and Buschcrafter. Tim L.
Jinx would be good name for your Rogers & Spencer revolver. 😆Did you notice that even after you moved the camera back it had a hiccup on the first shot. That is some concussion it is putting out! Blackie thanks so much for sharing I really enjoy all your videos but the cap and ball videos are my favorite.
I carry either an 1860 with 40 grains of compressed black powder under 220 grain conicals, or an 1851 with 30 grains of black powder under 83 grain roundballs. I’m confident either would do the job for self defense, but that .44 I keep for bigger critters and automobile bodies.
Blackie : When you have lighting conditions like that the Chrono can't see the bullet due to lack of contrast. I've had the same problem with Rifle Cartridges. What I did was take some Alcohol or Paint Thinner and clean the Bullet then Paint the Bullet Flat Black with a Sharpie. this makes for more contrast as the Bullet is easier to see, also you might try an indoor lighting kit which uses a bunch of specially selected L.E.D.'s to light the Chrono ,They are Invisible to the Human Eye. Pro Chrono and Caldwell both sell them but I don't know about Chrony.
Maybe a canopy or umbrella over the chronograph! I don't have the fingers to do the paper cartridges (carpal tunnel syndrome in the left arm and TOS in the right). Great video
you know Blackie you can lay a piece of cardboard over the crony on days like that! i've tried garbage bags but they sag an mess with the readings and bullet! something like poster board works real good!
I bought one of those Chrony's and it never worked out of the box. That was over 20 years ago. The last one I bought was a Competition Electronics ProChrono DLX and it's been flawless, and not a bad price.
Your like myself we are from the age of technology challenged, we didn't grow up with a computer in our hands which leads to the problems we have when something has a chip in it, but its all good, just try again an you did an overcame the obstacles. Thx for the vid Blackie
👍 I had problem with chrona shock wave giving reading instead of bullet. With 44 mag 3 inch barrel and Super 14 with 300gr bullets. Cure moved the chrona back to 15 yds. 50 BMG had to move back 20 yds...lol. Just wondering? I tried 160 gr, 180 gr, 200 gr, 240 gr out 3 inch barrel the ran 44 special 200 gr and got same fps. Shot beside the chrona finally to figure I was getting Shockwave instead of bullet speed on overcast humid day. I am not saying that is what your experience is at all. But you may want to try a close outside shot to see if life isn't pulling your leg. One other time I was getting 1130 to 1090 fps out of a short barrel only move back 9 more yards and 750 to 761 fps reading. Which was what expected from the loads made up for this project.
How's he accuracy with that load, Blackie? Not mentioned in vid... I've got a Ruger Old Army, it'll take 40 gr. Under a round ball, never tried a conical, yet... it takes a .457 RB. What Dia. for a slug, any difference?
could i give you an idea , of what i use to make my paper cartridges , i use tea bags, do not laugh , it is cheaper than buying ganja paper, or buying coffee paper,
The other day a guy had to take off the top part of bonnet I guess you would call it? But it worked after that. Just something to consider bud, forever my best.
My Spiller&Burr was a disappointment. It blew caps off just like you said. I tried relieving the frame cutting the charge and drilling a the nipples. I sold it. I did like my Rogers&Spencer but I swapped it for something don't recall now.
i coat the round ball or conical with liquid alox from lee precision i just tumble lube them they helps seal the front the caps if i plan on it being loaded a long time i will add a bit of wax around the nipple but not down the flash hole and press the caps down on that then i carry in a full flap holster in bad weather keep as much water away as i can
@@BLACKIETHOMAS yea he was a quick draw when the deer was chased too him because his buddy a mile away caused it to get spooked lol. He downed alotta deer that way.
That is easily 45 colt results. (Original loading not hot rod) which is a documented horse dropper. You should be quite safe to blind hunt anything in your area with that.....did you show any groups ?
You think there is potential I. A 31 to head shoot birds ? My old man used to head shoot grouse with his S&W model 27 .357 mag. I have done it with my ruger mark II ( yes it is actually that old ) ....but I havent seen anyone work with the pocket guns to really come up with an accurate load. All the reviews are .. My range opens back up next week and my "wells fargo" should be here soon......guess I will see what I can figure .
Just saw a guy shoot his chrony today at the range. He was like “i think i just hit one of the uprights on the side 😅” He put it right through the front xD Ironically i was talking about how i needed to get rid of my low left flinch before i get a chrony myself.
@@fjb4932 I'm from MN. They don't allow us to hunt deer with .22 rimfires. Any gun will kill a deer. Like you say. Shot placement is everything, but deer are amazingly tough critters. Just poking a hole will kill them, but they may be 2 miles away with no blood trail.

I feel your pain Blackie. At least you didn't shoot one of the chronograph arms off. Don't ask how I know that can happen. LOL

Mr. Blackie, speaking of causeing damage instead of penatration. Do or are there hollow point type bullets for black bowder?
Energy transfer by impact is measured by the change in velocity, so lower penetration means a harder hit.
correct more tranfer = more damage
Where did you get the Rogers and Spencer? Is it new or used? Replica or original? Too bad about the technical trouble.

You need to add a light in top. It cant track the projectile with all that smoke. Try it with a bow and arrow. You’ll see the same thing.
