This series has so much heart. I've blubbered a few times all the way through. I'm new to the series and I'm hooked, I'm starting the animated series soon, after I finish my X-Men rewatch. People can say what they want, but the series was made to create new followers to join in a way that suits them more and I'm definitely one of the ones that will enjoy every moment getting to watch the anime for the first time.
I heard that this one is supposed to be set between the first two original movies, which is totally unneeded in my opinion, the first two ones don't need to have more background story set somewhere else, they just could have made a sequel to Alien: Covenant.
Nah, much happier with this direction. Ridley was trying to re-invent the wheel too much with Prometheus and Covenant. This one-minute teaser has me more hyped than either of those full movies. The recipe for a good Alien movie should follow the success of "Prey" and what it did for the Predator. Just drop the monsters into a compelling, standalone story that honours the previous movies and enjoy the ensuing chaos.
Hm, Isolation was a pretty good interquel. Not sure if I need more in that timeframe, but the teaser at least looks alright. Nothing fancy, just the goods.
Back to the "haunted house in space" vibes. Alien doesn't need to be complicated, it just needs to deliver on the quality horror and compelling visuals. This looks great.
I have high hopes for this film, the teaser was absolutely perfect and looks like the film we have been waiting 35 years for, but James Cameron also said Terminator Dark Fate was a good movie, so yeah, any quotes from him, I take with a huge grain of sait.
The only thing that sucks about Alien 3 is the digital effects, which is why I hope they're not repeating the same mistake in this one. IMO, the reason Alien and Aliens still hold up today is because they relied on practical effects, and if it looks good to the eye while you're filming it will look good to the eye 50 years later. The same can't be said about digital, it's evolving so quickly that a movie released today will look outdated in 12 months. Sometimes, they're adopting new methods while they're in post-production, and by the time it's released those methods have already been outclassed by something else.
Aliens species always take on the characteristics of the hosts.. The reason why the alien three alien looks Somewhat different.. Thanks to the host being a rottweiler dog
Actually, it depends on which version you saw. In the director's cut, it was an ox. But I get it. it would be interesting to see mowhat more can the alien do with different kinds of species hosts.
I just read that the director brought back some of the guys who worked on the creature design in Aliens, and is using all real set designs and puppets, etc.
There is also gonna be an alien television series coming out in the near future, plus, Disney is sitting on a predator animated series that has been finished for several years now, but for some reason isn't willing to release it.
I was thinking 'Huh, Evil Dead, that was a decent movie' when I was actually thinking about Evil Dead Rise. He directed the reboot from 2013 and I REALLY liked it. That scene with the electric knife was just gnarly. Now I'm looking forward to this movie more than ever... I just hope they don't make him hold back on the violence and gore.
This could be good, Prometheus and Covenant weren't good and were fairly predictable. The first AVP get's a lot of hate, but I think it's super fun. The second AVP is awful. Resurrection is incredibly underwhelming. Alien 3, I kinda liked it, both versions; dog or cow.

Without spoilers, I can safely say that the Alien movies you haven't seen yet are not considered among the greats. Opinions on quality vary of course but Prometheus/Covenant aren't really films about the Xenomorphs. Alien vs. Predator is exactly what it says on the cover and it's serviceable but not particularly memorable. AvP: Requiem is hot garbage. The fourth Alien movie, Resurrection is interesting because it was written by Joss Whedon and you can see the initial idea for Firefly in there. Other than that, it's... meh. So long story short, if you don't watch any of these before Romulus I think you'll be just fine.
Do yourself a favor and don't watch Alien Resurrection, it's crap, oh and don't bother with the AVP movies, they are total crap as well and don't add anything to the lore. If anything watch Prometheus and Alien Covenant, but they are Ok at best. Alien and Aliens are the only great movies in this franchise. And this film takes place between those 2 movies anyways.
Romulus’ timeline tales place between Alien and Aliens. If you’ve watched the first 2 movies then you’re good to go. The rest of the franchise is a mixed bag.
It actually makes perfect sense how tech would get simpler the further and spread thin humanity gets. A buckling spring keyboard and crt can be repaired far more easily than an amoled display and touch panel. Remember tv repair shops? You cant build production facilities into small ships. Its likely tech on earth or executive ships looks better. But in stations and ships its as simple as can be. And yes you could build the parts on earth but then you have to ship them across light years. Im guessing tech organically became simpler superficially over time. The core of drive systems and computers etc are likely the only really high end stuff they keep around but theyve stripped back wherever they can.
I hadn't seen this yet, but seeing you and an Alien trailer, I just had to click, lol. The opening with the ship approach and then the dolly ride back through empty hallways was giving me Alien Isolation flashbacks, lol. I haven't seen all the Newish ones, up to Prometheus I think, but I agree that 1 and 2 are just in their own league especially for their time. This trailer was great, I am now very keen to see how this one goes.
Tell me you watched the Special Edition/Assembly Cut of Alien 3… Also, there is no film named “Alien Resurrection.” That’s a vile rumor which started to spread in November 1997. It does not exist, nor will it ever exist.

Please tell me you watched the extended version of Alien 3!? If not, take your brain out, run it through a dishwasher to remove the memories, reinsert it and watch the correct version. It is SO much better than the theatrical release. It's still one of the weak points of the franchise but nowhere near as bad as the original Alien 3 turd they put out.
That whining tone in the music is directly from the original Alien trailers. Sets it up to a return to form. Looks like its going back to its horror roots. Excited for it.

For a fan of Prometheus and Covenant, I'm totally unaware of Romulus. The fact this trailer is brought to my attention by someone who hasn't watched the aforementioned sagas is quite something. I watched Prometheus in the theater with my parents, whom I dragged along, but they both fell asleep despite me sitting at the edge of the seat.
Which version of Alien³ did you watch? Did the Xenomorph come from a cow or a dog? If it was a dog, it was the original version and kinda sucks. If it was the cow, it was the directors cut and was a much better version. You should also play Aliens: Colonial Marines, as it has an interesting continuation of the events between Aliens and Alien³.
The assembly cut has some great extra dialogue but that version has pacing issues and really drags at certain points. Also some versions of it have horrible audio issues. The more frantic pacing of the theatrical release is much better plus the Ox birth is weak as hell when you compare it to the dog birth.
@@andrewcharles4349 the version I watched didn't seem to have any issues. But the differential of the Xenomorph being JUST a protector vs also being worshipped as a diety sort of icon, gave the story a little extra to it.

I cant say one is definitely better than the other. Depends on my mood I guess. When I do rewatch A3 I generally go for the theatrical release.

The original WOKE movie. Let me guess, all the men die, all the Marines die. A woman kills all the Aliens and Queen when no one else could. CGI is to fast, unrealistic and builds no suspense. Pass on this WOKE movie.
The last one I had any interest in seeing was Alien 3, which was okay. Covenant didn't make much money, so I think moving forward the franchise would do better as streaming shows. The story has been beat to death already, no tension or surprises anymore.

a lot of these movies are Pre quals and not in order of how they happened so its fine to watch this.

You don't have to watch all of the Predator films to watch Romulus. Just AVP 1 if not for Noah Hawley's "Alien" Hulu show in 2025
