Kate Meets Kaffe Fassett at the Festival of Quilts 2023 PART ONE

- Last week Anna and I went to The Festival of Quilts at the NEC in Birmingham. I met so many lovely people and saw so many amazing quilts, I came home with sensory overload! We took a lot of film so I am going to post TWO video, this is Part ONE and next Sunday at 7pm BST I will post Part TWO.
In Part ONE then, I met up with my Quilting Heroes, Kaffe Fassett and Brandon Mably who were kind enough to grant me an interview, sitting in front of my quilt entry - Agnes's Quilt. I am grateful to the Stewards who helped to set this up with me!
I met with Nik and Claire at The Cotton Patch Stand. These are the people who put together the kits for my Hexagon Cushion in the Shop and so it was great to see them in real life! The cushion kits are here, the thread boxes too

I chatted to the Aurifil Boys (sorry - that's a patronising way to describe two such lovely men, but I am old enough to be your Mum!) I'm hoping the sound is good enough for you to hear this section, we filmed it during my 'Meet and Greet' at the Aurifil Stand and there was a lot going on around me.
We announced the Designer Box that I am planning with Aurifil next year! Exciting times. There is also an interview I did for their blog which you can read here.

Your little chat with Kaffe & Brandon was brilliant! I love their fabrics so much that I hired a carpenter to make me a cabinet just for their fabrics. During the pandemic I was able to make 8 quilts from my stash without leaving my house. Your hexagon quilt has all of my fav colors & I admire it so much. So happy I found your amazing channel, thank you! ❤️

You are a natural for your use of colors…and for teaching others. I totally agree with how helpful a white board is to see the colors develop and how to use quilting to enhance the design. Finally someone who doesn't like heavy quilting! Brilliant video and interview with Kaffe and Brandon, like them even more after the comments they made about quilting complimenting the patchwork rather than dominating and taking over the design.

I have watched a lot of other videos where the quilter shows you around their quilt show, and I have never enjoyed watching since they just a
scanned around very rapidly. I really wanted you to know how much I enjoyed watching you video. I also liked your interviews.
When I saw Agnes' Quilt displayed there at the beginning of the video, I immediately thought "Monet". And when Brandon said it, it made me smile because he had the same thought. Such a masterpiece!

The one joined with the buttons and two different colored backgrounds. Lovely colors and such a variety of complementary shapes. Of course, yours was the best. It was very interesting to hear Kaffe put into words my feelings about heavily machine quilted pieces. I am a hand quilter at heart, and while I can appreciate the skill involved in those works of art, I think they often lose the essence of what a quilt really is. To me drapability, warmth and comfort to both body and soul is what it is all about.
