To realize this video, several days of work have been required to retrieve and process the data and add features to JQuake, making it able to replay other data sources. This video uses a modified version of JQuake 1.8.5.
Earthquake early warning, earthquake information, and tsunami information data are obtained from the Japan Meteorological Agency telegram history of Project DM-DSS. It will be played according to the system reception time.
The observation point data is calculated from the waveform records of the Kik/K-Net observation point network of the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention, and converted into a special format that can be read by JQuake. It is therefore much denser than real-time data.
To fill in the holes in the waveform data, it was merged with real-time data from the strong motion monitor.
Reuse is prohibited. Please contact contact@jquake.net for permission.
I pray for the repose of the souls of those who passed away.

Thank You for providing this information! I've been looking for this since the incident, very intriguing information to have!
Im glad you posted this! Information of the past is the best way to learn for the future. This is a historical piece!
Of course the moment the pc goes down, a huge earthquake and major tsunami warning happens. Terrible luck.
Man must've kicked himself numb when that happened.
The stream was up 24/7 with no interruptions for almost 2 years straight, and when it died for 3 days, the largest earthquake to strike the Sea of Japan in 40 years and the strongest to hit the Peninsula since 1885 struck.
What timing.
Yeah, he said he was frustrated
This is murphy's law in action!
I'm pretty sure there are other detection systems working as backups
JQuakeのやつが1番見やすいからいつも助かってます!
にしても今回の地震は前震から本震までの間隔が短かったなぁ...
2022年の地震と似た感じだと思います
The early alert system has received multiple upgrades in the past couple days, in preparation for a 9.0 to hit right offshore, the system now goes absolutely berserk the second it detects anything above a 5.0, with the reasoning that a quake that big, people on the northwest shore will have less than a minute real time to react. And since then the aftershocks haven't subsided at all. I imagine everyone is extremely on edge right now
less than a minute? Earthquakes are usually detected only a few seconds before they actually hit the first people. Or are u talking about a Tsunami?
Especially with shallow quakes like this one. The shaking starts before the system can detect it. P and S waves arrive very shortly after each other.
tf u saying bro
@@jordydewaal3245 And the fact that the epicenter of these quakes are virtually right on top of you means that _maybe_ you'll have a second or 2 to react.
The early warning system has actually recieved upgrades for many years
Thank you for posting this, it's really historical data just like 2011. My thoughts are with everyone who's lost their family members, friends, pets and animals, homes and possessions. It's so horrible, but the rescue personnel and humanitarian workers have been doing an amazing job and they are real heroes. I hope the people all across Ishikawa can soon start to clean up and rebuild, and I hope people all around the world can help them when the time comes.
1000gal以上の揺れの持続時間が長すぎる...

Is it possible to get the intesity readings on the bottom right (prefecture list and local intensity), as well as the numbers on the map in the latest version of English JQuake? I cannot seem to do it and I suspect that it is not possible with the project DM DS thing.

Whoa 3 shocks in just 12 mins, with 2 big one in just 5 mins. No wonder why the damage is so high.
Edit: wait... the shaking wasn't stopped during the period between the main shock and the aftershock. That's crazy!

the one that trully take notice are double-earthquake that happens in less than 5 minutes. it's a bad combination, cause the second one come with bigger magnitude, cracking or even destroying facilities that had been damaged in first one earthquake.
Jquake team, you guys need to prepare for this "Twin-destructive earthquake". upgrade on information and display laying will trully help people prepare with these events in future

re "The power supply unit of the computer used for the UA-cam stream malfunctioned" - I imagine a high-reliability cloud system would be ideal for 24/7 streams of critical information. Capabilities like seamless virtual machine migration can reduce downtime by orders of magnitude. The uptime of the stream was excellent, but cannot compete with the 99.999.. offered by large high end cloud systems. I understand that's not free though, but would be willing to help contribute if there's no single source of funding for such a project. Are there any crowdfunding systems that are popular in Japan? (I know of Japanese platforms for creative projects, but not "normal" fundraising for something like this.)
Also for redundancy, consider a second streaming platform, both for reach and in the case this one becomes unreliable for an unforeseen reason.
The JQuake stream is not intended to provide critical information. It's intended to educate and entertain. Nobody should be using it as their only source of earthquake early warning.

It could have been alot worse if that would be bigger...
I also think we were blessed that it was in the daytime and not at night when everyone is asleep in bed. It could have been so much worse as far as people trapped.
We can't know if this is the main quake or just a precursor to a bigger quake, everyone must be on edge right now
Looking at the earthquake history, it doesn't look like there are any bigger earthquakes than this. This is not a mega thrust area. I would be surprised if a much bigger one happened here.
I wish earthquake would just stop since in 2011, there was a magnitude 9.1 earthquake that were just hitted in Japan, it even got x10 worse than this earthquake M7.6. (Or you can even correct it already, i just don't care At all)

man, not only is it the first time in almost 13 years that they get a shindo 7 earthquake, the worst part of it is that it was on new year, literally January 1st of 2024... May all the victims of this disaster rest in peace.
Actually 🤓, the last Shindo 7 earthquake occurred on September 6 of 2018 at Hokkaido, Eastern Iburi, Atsuma Town which by technicality means it has only been about 5 years since the last Shindo 7 earthquake occurred.
Shindo 7: Atsuma
Shindo 6+ Abira, Mukawa
Shindo 6- New Chitose Airport, Hidaka, Biratori
Shindo 5+ Sapporo, Tomakomai, Ebetsu, Mikasa, Chitose, Eniwa, Naganuma, Shinhidaka
Shindo 5- Hakodate, Muroran, Iwamizawa, Noboribetsu, Date, Kitahiroshima, Ishikari, Shinshinotsu, Nanporo, Yuni, Kuriyama, Shiraoi
Furthermore, the earthquake had a peak ground acceleration of 1.83 g (1796 gal), and had a maximum mercalli intensity of X (10) on the MMI scale.
@@felkadaluwarsa I just checked, the one you are talking about was actually a 6 Lower according to the JMA Seismic Intensity Scale.
@@allanblot-gadbois3347 Shindo 7 was observed in Atsuma Town.
@Jun0621 what I mean is that it's the first earthquake since the 2016 Kumamoto earthquakes that were officially classed as Shindo 7 for the disaster in itself and not for only a single city. With accelerations reaching over 2800gal (said to be 2.88g), that new monster is basically the earthquake with highest ground acceleration in Japan since the 2011 Tohoku Megathrust earthquake, which had a peak acceleration of 2.99g.
@@allanblot-gadbois3347 What do you mean "classed as Shindo 7 for the disaster in itself and not for a single city"? You only need a single station to record Shindo 7 and it's classified Shindo 7
