Im glad that you brought up the Nortent, there are no excuse for it to be a one person tent, that weight and that price tag... There are many other tents that are cheaper, weigh less and still can take on any weather, anywhere! I have now depleted my rage and will continue watching this episode.
🤣🤣. It's a strange tent. I honestly think it would be perfect for 4th season snowy mountain tops but getting it up there is too much work. I shouldn't have bought it but that's life. Cheers 👍👍
Hi Mat. I would use the Nortent for single overnighters when you go up high and need bad weather security. Montserrat sure does look pretty, as did your rice and turkey supper. The sore throat is probably the result of inhaling a Spanish Tse Tse fly in your sleep. You initially feel better after a couple of days but the eggs that they lay cling to your lungs. There's a very high mortality rate and no known antidote. Tell Caroline I'll have 1st dibs on your camper please. Gaudi certainly has designed some impressive buildings. Thanks for another great video 🙂👍
I seem to have survived. Sorry. Maybe a different hideous fly will strike. If that's the way I go then the van is yours. Caroline may fight you for it though.
I think the GDMBR has you still in good shape, to be doing these hikes at high elevation. The TransAmerica should be a breeze. And hope that breeze is a tailwind.
Hey Bert, I believe I read somewhere that air coming out of one's eye: Is the precursor to a long and painful death........................ ;-) Chin up. Best. Ernie
Great adventure! Stunning views on the hike and in Barcelona. For the sore throat, try manukah honey lozenges. Wyoming has very low humidity, and Xylimelt lozenges are also good overnight. You just stick one between gum and cheek and it dissolves slowly. Take care.
Thanks, Mat, for sharing this wonderful video. Sensational views, beautiful places, loving this. Was looking up about Santa Maria only the other day happy you featured it yay .
Thanks for sharing Mat, your awesome tour guide! Snow finally melting here on the GDMBR, getting set up for all the riders coming thru this season. See you on the trans am.
Another super video ❤ Beautiful things to admire , I have decided from watching your video that graffiti may have its place and some of it looked rather artistic. Sad to see some talent is clearly wasted. Looks like you're having the time of your life on your travels. Great to look back on it all. What an amazing experience. Have fun😊
I enjoy the content Mat! Every now and again I let out a loud chuckle at your dry wit! Tell me what is that funky stand you employ to keep the bike upright?
Totally agree on Spains graffiti issue. I lived in Barcelona over a couple decades ago and it was a big issue even then. It was everywhere, on walls, monuments, alleys, etc. But it didn’t seem like the locals were really that bothered by it. I found it sad…
Mat, another great video. I was wondering if, with all the time on the road if you ever wished you had purchased a slightly larger RV? Also, any plans about getting the boy wonder to travel with you and make the hiking / biking routes on the go? Finally, love your historical commentary on certain sites, ever consider adding in a WWII reference for those of us in the states? thanks, cheers from colorful, blue sky, and perpetual sunshine of Colorado.
Mat have you considered using a hammock , i can reccomend the one wind 11ft with their windsock and a down underquilt add a dd tarp and you have a luxury sleep/comfort with no ache or pains in the mornings imho far superior to any other sleep system trouble is getting out of it in the mornings .
I have a Dutchware Chameleon and definitely sleep better in a hammock. I think I'm a bit worried about finding pitches etc. I'll look into your recommendation. It might be the way to go. Cheers 👍
'they fled in 1812... something to do with the French' haha I love it. I strongly suggest watching (or rewatching) all of Sharpe; not necessarily because of its historical accuracy, it's just very good. Your videos are fantastic. I'm stuck in cold old England and am enjoying the vicarious escapism!
Funnily enough, I love the Sharpe series. I read the books too. I must have forgotten the hermitage bits 🤣. I'm going to watch them all again anyway. They're Awesome.
I loved this episode. I was raised catholic and found this very interesting. Thanks again for taking us along. And yeah I would visit Barcelona too. If I ever get to visit the mountains of Japan I think I would have to visit Tokyo while I’m there 😊not much of a city person either but sometimes you just gotta 😅
Mat, another great video. Was wondering with all the time traveling, do you wish you had purchased a larger RV? I see some that you park next to and wonder if it wouldn't make more sense as much as you are on the road. Also, have you ever pondered bringing the boy wonder on these trips. Instead of having him plan your trips from home do it in real time? Finally, love your historical information you bring with the sights, have you ever considered speaking about some sights significance to WWII, I am a huge fan of WWII history. Thanks, and cheers from beautiful Colorado. By the way, it is 79 degrees, blue skies and lots of sunshine here.
Hi. I'm 100% happy with my van. A bigger one would be nice but I can go almost anywhere with this. There are a lot of 3.5 tonne restrictions in Europe and I am under that threshold. 'The Boy Wonder'🤣🤣. I'd love for him to come out on these trips, I'm sure it'll happen in the future. I too am fascinated by WWII but I think a dedicated road tour would make more sense. I'll get around to it. I loved Colorado. I'll be back soon there soon. My TransAm cycle ride starts July 22nd. It's raining and cold here in France.
Spain is amazing! I had a 40th birthday weekend in Barcelona so didn’t really see much, other than a bus sightseeing trip. Great video and some amazing places. If you haven’t seen the to show The Detectorists, which is great, they always correct the person who asks “are you a metal detector?” With “detetcorists!” 😁
I enjoyed Barcelona, which is a proper commendation seeing as how cities generally drive me crazy. I really have to watch The Detectorists. It keeps coming up. Cheers 👍
Re sore throat at night, if you snore or mouth breath while sleeping, you can end up with a sore throat from breathing the dry air. Worse in dry areas like the desert. Had that problem 2 weeks ago bike touring the White Rim in Utah.
I had the same Soto stove on the GDMBR and really liked it, but one of the small set screws was lost and I couldn't find a replacement. REI didnt have the stove in stock. So I replaced it with a Pocket Rocket.
Hi Ron. That's annoying. I'll check the screws and make sure I have a spare. I loved my Pocket Rocket Deluxe and seriously considered just getting another new one. Hopefully I made the right choice.
I cycled through Vigo in Spin a few weeks ago. They did have cycle lanes but with traffic lights every 50m it felt like. Not a great experience to be honest. Certainly compared to the Netherlands.
Mat, I love your commentary! I laugh a lot. (Patty, Scott's wife)
great video.
beautiful hike. glad you brought the drone, so nice.
Thanks. That little drone is amazing. Cheers 👍
Such a lovely episode man! Love it
I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for watching 👍

Hi Mat another fantastic episode what an adventure your having Montserrat looks incredible!! See you on the next one 👍
Cheers Pat. It's been fantastic. I'll be back in the UK this afternoon but the whole trip has been amazing.

Oh well ..
I'd actually settle for the small van if the Sonder was in the back.
🤣 I think that's a fair deal.

Excellent, what address for the post dated cheque...
Well done....beautiful part of the world! Thanks for sharing!

I think you're right. I should be in good enough shape when I get on the TransAm. A tailwind would be nice.
Another lovely adventure, just wanted to say thanks for taking us along.
Safe travels 🤍🚴🏻♀️🌟
Cheers👍👍. You're a regular commenter, it's appreciated 👍👍

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣...I knew it was bad...
Incredible views from the hike in the first half of the vid, there are some amazing places to be seen.
Bob...
It's been an amazing trip. Cheers 👍
I can’t wait to see the ‘air coming out of your eyes’ trick bro.
Soon enough Broski. We'll be back on the Slingshot soon enough. If we do it again (of course we will) I'll put it on UA-cam.

Thanks for the information. I'll look into the lozenges. Cheers 👍

Hi Wendy. That is a coincidence. Cheers 👍👍
Thanks for sharing Mat, your awesome tour guide! Snow finally melting here on the GDMBR, getting set up for all the riders coming thru this season. See you on the trans am.
What a gorgeous place! The Soto Windmaster is a favorite piece of gear. Hundreds of meals and only had to rebuild it once.
I like it so far. It's replaced my MSR Pocket rocket Deluxe so has a lot to live up to. Cheers 👍
Wow, the old world charm! We don’t have that in the states
It's amazing around here. I love the US for the huge landscapes. Europe had the historic little villages.
Another super video ❤

@@matryderadventures I just placed my order, and let Tom know that I got the lead from you! BR, Ron

It is strange. It started to really get on my nerves. Like you say, the locals don't seem to care. Maybe they're just used to it.
I found this a while back ..
"Don’t expect a great night of sleep while camping-expect a series of naps."
That pretty much sums it up. I watch other UA-camrs camp.and they always mention how well they slept. I hate them.

The upside is that now you can do that trick where you squirt milk out of your eye. Silver linings!
I'll Google it. I still don't know whether I should be concerned or not 😬
Great video, loved seeing Barcelona again too. Can't help but wonder; Did it take you long to find your van? 🙂
Hi. Not too long. 🤣🤣. I have the worst sense of direction..
@@matryderadventures 😅😅Nah, you made it from Banff to the border of Mexico. Your sense of direction is right on 🙂
You might look up magnet fishing. Costs less than metal locater and takes less space
Excellent idea. I'll start looking into it right now. Cheers 👍
Nice video, thanks Mat. Silicone ear plugs and a better pillow should help your sleep.
I'll try both. Cheers 👍
Thanks Mat Food Beer and more Beer Brilliant.
It would have been beer in fourth place too.

I’ve just bought some nasal strips that athletes wear, what a difference when sleeping.
Now that's very interesting. I'll order some and give them a try. Cheers 👍

Mat - Have you ever considered being a comedian ?
Why don`t you raffle the tent off on here that way you hopefully get your money back for the tent and someone gets a cheap tent.

I believe the Netherlands have the best cycle lanes in the world. I need to get over and see for myself.
* metal detectorist.
Graffiti is a sign of weak government.
It's everywhere. Thankfully in the cities, where I don't particularly want to be anyway. I'm in Greece as I type. It's the same here.
