Hi Andy, great video mate I really enjoyed it. Beautiful location and a cracking tent! Was you warm enough at night with the kit you used? Also, can you leave a link for your shades please, very nice.
I wish I could learn more about the place, especially your travel experience. Thank you for sharing details about your gear, clothing, equipment, and other items you brought! Cheers, and enjoy the outdoors!
What a cracking spot Andy. Super sunrise. I have the Same Sierra designs pack and I carried 16.5kg up to y garn and was comfortable. Cheers, Atb paul 👍
great pitch Andy, had a MSR reactor that I sold and I must admit I do regret as it boiled water soooo fast but it was a pain to light in windy conditions. That tent look brilliant, maybe 2024 will be the year I replace my old TN Solar. Need to get over to the peaks, get out of my comfort zone. Thanks for sharing alway enjoy your uploads.
Moderation is key with the beers Andy, i think if you was binge drinking all the time it would be a problem but i wouldn't worry too much, belter camp btw 👌
I've had a Nallo 2 since 2003 or 2004 - all of a sudden they're trendy! Two of us ordered ours from Canada as the prices here were ridiculous even back then.
Thanks for sharing and listing out the kit setup - very helpful. Do you know roughly the weight of your entire pack (minus the Guiness haha)? This is 5-star ultralight camping :)
Congrats on the dry January. I did the same, for the first time. What are your thoughts on the Guinness Zero? I haven't stumbled across it yet in central Canada but if it is close to the original, I would definitely give it a shot.
Great to see you out in the wilds, I am a beginner winter camping but have just bought a second hand Terra nova Voyager so hoping to keep out the cold wind which is our main issue here in the UK after all! What type of pegs did you use?
I have just returned from peaks, walked from glossop to crash site then alport castles, then kinder scout. Was descending kinder scout in the dark. It was an intense trip. Lol. Btw sawyer filter totally failed me again and i m trashing them. They r good on paper. I done tonnes of research and tried many things. Restored flow with hot vinegar bath, just to fail on a first attempt to filter water in peaks.
I barely find the need for a water filter. I use tablets, and sometimes as a prefilter gsi plastic coffee mesh bag. Or aquarium bag with very fine mesh. Or expandable little towels. I have no idea what s the problem with Sawyer bcs I was able to restore the flow. Maybe they r not for UK hard water
Hi Andy, Nice video and not bad weather for Jan How would you rate the OMM jacket breathability and warmth? Does it have a 2 way front zip? Thanks Bill
I wish it had a front stash pocket and I wish the side pockets were taller (my water fell out of one of the side pockets!). It's comfy and a good fit though.
What's that Sierra design backpack like Andy ? Does it keep the weight off your shoulders? Reason I day that is I've got a 7 day multi day hike in June to do and I usually use my osprey Atmos 50 but it hurts my shoulders and is heavy to start with so been looking at the sierra designs one . Have you got a review of that in your playlists? Cheers
There is a farmers field just before Edale and the farmer charges £7 for overnights. Great as car safe and peace of mind. It’s on the right coming from Hope. 👍
Just completed my first wild camp last night and chose back tor. Me and my partner really enjoyed it! Was really busy in the morning though everyone making their way over from mam tor
@@BackpackingUK you can clip the water bladder netting that comes with the pack on the inside to the outside of the pack. I do this when I need to dry out some stuff.
Can’t agree more with you about no fires - recently seen a Tik Tok about a new app that somebody is bringing out and they actually endorsed ‘reducing the amount of ground scared by wild fires’ it’s madness. Can see why they won’t make it legal - too many numptys who would ruin it!
Well done going nearly a month without alcohol, most people don’t class it as a drug because it’s legal, but it is a drug and if abused can be just as bad if not worse for the body as other drugs
I’ve not had a drink since New Year’s Eve. I’m normally a weekend drinker. Haven’t noticed any physical or mental improvement feel just as I normally do, but I’m sure my liver and kidneys appreciate the rest. BTW I’m 67 and have always drunk since I was a teenager…looking forward to a few scoops this weekend..
I think they're the Raid but they're basically almost identical. They're great, and I really mean that. Probably the best alternative to down trousers out there.

Why don't you just give up Alcohol, within a few months the difference will be huge to your health, so many do realize the effects it has on the body, sleep will improve, complexion will improve and overall health will just feel better. I have not touched it in over 30 years and 53 soon and fit as a fiddle on springs . Thanks for the vid Andy
Most people don’t realise that alcohol is a poison. It damages the brain and especially the liver which has to filter and neutralise all the stuff we put into ourselves. Best to leave it alone completely or just occasionally as a ‘reward’ drink, as I do, for having completed some special adventure.
No, that’s my fault. The forecast for wind was much better than reality. I roughly pegged it out thinking I’d be ok. When the wind picked up I had to peg it out properly. That’s the problem making videos, you’re always in a rush!
@@BackpackingUK Wasn't serious, had one myself, great tent. Now using the Anjan 2 for 3 season use and Akto/Soulo BL for 4. Warm enough. Put my base layer bottoms on about 4am but was ok up to then with just the base top on, neck thingy and hat. Classic Oakley Frogskins 🕶️
Looks like you had a great camp and were certainly well prepared. All the best! 🏕️👍🏻

That's my go-to spot at the Woolpacks. Have had many a good night there
No way! I can see why!
Glad you did this one Andy. I’m off to Edale in April to wild camp so wanted some ideas and walking options. Keep up the awesome work
I’ll put the routes in the description, just don’t follow me wandering on the Kinder Scout plateau!
What a cracking wild camp spot that is! I will head out this weekend on a camp to the Peaks. Absolutely, can't wait!
Site looks a bit susceptible to becoming a big if it rains though.
Just what I thought
New subscriber to your Channel, though I have watched you before. This video makes me want to get out & camp! 🤔😉👍
PS - I did Woolpacks for my 1st ever wild camp last year. ⛺
Nice one Andy
Stunning litter spot with that sunrise 👌
Cheers G
Nice video. That tent looks great, love how roomy it is. Will jabe to take a look at that one
The place just to the right of where you pitched is one of my mates & mine favourite spots.
Cool, it's a lovely area to camp.

To be honest, I’m going to sell the Reactor, it’s not as good as the Windburner. You’re right, it’s a pain to light!
you are the most likable person on youtube for camping gear :)
Thanks 🙏
In really hard wind you could double pole, that would only add about 315 gram, and make the tent stronger and also a bit more quiet inside.

It was 14.5kg all-in. That's everything. The tent alone weighs 2.8kg inc footprint.
@@BackpackingUK That's pretty darn good!
Great scenery wow.
Good choice getting that sheltered pitch. I imagine you would have got a proper battering otherwise!
I really wanted an exposed pitch on the edge further out but I’m glad I didn’t!
Congrats on the dry January. I did the same, for the first time. What are your thoughts on the Guinness Zero? I haven't stumbled across it yet in central Canada but if it is close to the original, I would definitely give it a shot.
Guinness 0.0 is the best non-alcoholic beer out there! It’s one of the few 0.0 that is still full of flavour.
Nice one Andy 👍 Did I see a UFO at 14:28?👽
I’ll take a look 👀
Was the Omm stuff warm enough? Warmer than down?
No, slightly less warmer than down. It’s less bulky though, looks much nicer and is much warmer when damp and / or wet.
Great to see you out in the wilds, I am a beginner winter camping but have just bought a second hand Terra nova Voyager so hoping to keep out the cold wind which is our main issue here in the UK after all! What type of pegs did you use?
V-pegs. You need good pegs when it’s windy with soft ground.

Fancy doing a review on the wild country trident 2 bought it not long back wanna see what you think
I’ve seen that before, it’s on my list!
Spot on as always.

Luckily it didn’t rain. That pitch would have been a swamp. Losing a peg as well would have made it interesting.
Rain wasn’t forecast hence the pitch.
Bladder water..... Yum yum lol😂😂
😬 😂😂😂
Hi Andy,
Nice video and not bad weather for Jan
How would you rate the OMM jacket breathability and warmth?
Does it have a 2 way front zip?
Thanks
Bill
It’s fairly breathable and good down to just about zero. It’s got a 2 ways zip too 👍
What's your verdict on the backpack I have the same in black but have only took it out once on a short walk loaded up.
I wish it had a front stash pocket and I wish the side pockets were taller (my water fell out of one of the side pockets!). It's comfy and a good fit though.
What was the light behind.
Looked like a UFO 🛸

I don’t rate it as much as the Atmos. The Atmos is superb, just make sure you’ve got it set up properly so most of the weight is on your hips.
what do you think to the back pack I had the flex capacitor it was comfy up to about 15kg and then it became really hard work at 20KG
I had 14.5kg in it and was ok. I wouldn’t fancy carrying 20kg though! It appears 15kg is approx it’s comfortable limit.
I might give that location a try. Where’s best to park my car overnight Andy?
I had a nightmare parking in Edale. I ended up parking on the road just out of Edale (same as many others!).

Were they the mountain raid or rotor trousers and how did you get on with them? Did they add much warmth etc?

Thanks again and well done on dry Jan!
Sorry can I ask if you went a size up to go over your other trousers or stick to normal sizing?
