Hi jem, thank you so much for sharing this video. I'm doing a dad tribute for my dad.never attempted this before but you have given me so much confidence to do this. You are such a lovely person. Thank you.sally😊
Hi Jem, what a brilliant video! Thank you so much . As a former teacher I always feel that some people are super generous with sharing their knowledge and expertise and others hoard it and keep it to themselves Obviously you fall into the former category. You're a very natural teacher and this video is fantastic and much appreciated. Now to my question What are the "legs" that you refer to at the end of the video please? and how do they work? How do funeral directors fix/lean or stand flowers in the hearse? To give context to the question, I've been asked to make funeral flowers for a Chinese funeral as a family friend ( I'm creative but not a florist) and I have bought a base Oasis block which has a lightweight solid foam backing - not sure what it's called I'm wondering if I could make a sort of frame with bamboo, lashing four pieces slightly longer than each edge and projecting at the corners which would act as "feet" Do you think that would work? and how long should the legs/feet be/? Presumably the feet need to be non slip too? Thanks in advance , the funeral is on Tuesday so I have already started prepping. (Only came on UA-cam to find out how to pleat florist ribbon wish I'd watched this earlier, very helpful)
Hi lovely! Thank you so much. So with your letters you need to make sure you get the stand as well. The stand comes with 2 poles to fit the letters on to and then the ends which we call “feet or legs” they fit at the end to make it stand up. What I do is fix these onto the end of the poles before I go to the funeral home and then the funeral directors put it in the hearse, don’t worry they do this everyday so they know how to handle them. Xxx
I'm doing a "DAD" tribute too. Do you have to use Poly Ribbon or can you use greenery around the edges? If so, what Greenery would you recommend? Thank you for the video, it's VERY informative!
I someone’s use poly ribbon or greenery edge. I use leather leaf, take small units from it and place these around the letters. They look very classy! I’ll have to make a video with the foliage edge as well actually! Xxx
Thank you! Oh let me know how that goes. I have thought about doing this and renting them, but haven’t got round to it yet and wasn’t sure how it would pan out xxx
Thank you so much for sharing pricing I'm so happy I came upon your video. Is it possible to see your brochure because that is an excellent idea. I'm a new florist and I'm struggling to find customers how do you get your potential customers by referrals from funeral homes?
Hi lovely! Yes, I have a funeral brochure video coming this week :) then I’ll do some other ones as well, like my bouquets and how to make a profit xxx
Thanks Jem for this video I have really benefited a lot I appreciate. I would like to know the name of the base, the one where you put flowers, the green thing what do you call it?
Hiya! I had a bit of trouble making it how I was going to, but I have actually taken a whole video about it and how it can be made, I just need to edit it and upload. It will be at the end of this week xxx
Hi gem how many stems of chrysanthemums would you say I would need for a 15x24inch pillow and also how early should I order the flowers to make sure they are nicely open and fluffy xxx thank you so much in advance for your help x I've been binging your channel as I want to make my dad's flowers the best they can be x
Hey babes! I would say 35 stems for this so 7 packets of 5. I would get a spare one just incase the heads are small. I use Bonita as they are always reliable in size. To make sure they are bloomed and fluffy, get them 4 days before you start. Condition them and leave them soaking. Xx
Beauriful! I’m interested in doing unique funeral sprays. Is there floral foam large enough for 30”x30” to cut into a shape? Where can I get, if so? Otherwise if foam piece not large enough can you glue foam together to make larger size?
You can get maxi blocks that are about 4 times the size of a normal block. If I want to do anything big. I would use a few of these and attach them together with kebab sticks and mould the oasis out :) xx
Loved this little video. I'm a late starter to Floristry, just getting my name out there. Its hard! Any tips? Sympathy flowers is what I'm focusing on. Thank you for sharing x
Thank you so much Karen! When I first started I was only a funeral florist also, then I realised I had lots of flowers left over so I started making the spare flowers into bouquets and selling them at discounted prices on Facebook marketplace and I had so many orders and it really got my name out there. I then used to do giveaways of massive bouquets if they follow my page and I grew doing it that way. Then the more people who knew me from my bouquets would come for their funeral work also! I still love doing funeral work the best though as I can just get stuck into it xx
Thank you so much! I charge £35 per letter just white chrysanthemum base, if they would like to add ribbon it’s £3 per letter and if they would like a little flower spray it’s £10 per letter Foliage edge- £5 per letter Full flower letters, using various flowers I charge £50 per letter xx
Hi, I would like to know where you purchased the tributes from? I struggle to find them at a reasonable price, or you can make them yourself. thank-you in advance
Hiya! So I normally do use 3 packs for each letter, but for example with COUSIN, for example “I” in cousin is just one line so I would only get 2 packs for this xx
Hi If i order 20 stems of bonita chrysanthemum from a wholesalers it would do the whole dad tribute? Did you use 15 stems in total? Have i understood correctly 😅 x
How do you replace the green foam when it becomes worn out? Is if not better to use the artificial foam instead for the artificial flowers as the green gets worn out quickly?
@@jemsfloralstudiotheacademy7091 Thank you very much 😊 Do you have any suggestions on how to cut the artificial letters so they fit into the tributes? Any great tips to make it all fit and neat as I’ve noticed Oasis don’t have any artificial floral foam letters?
@@romanny6039 I normally buy them as pre made letters. If you would like to do it as a diy, I would get wooden letters from a craft store or online and glue gun artifical foam around the letters and tape it for extra security xx
Hey lovely! Yes, I most certainly can! I was going to make an easy video on this. I will do this for my next video! You will know the names in no time! Xxx
Hiya! Sure. I would order a roll of poly ribbon they are normally about £3. I pleat them and then make sure it’s as long as 3 arm lengths (hand to hand if that makes sense) alternatively you can buy Easy Pleat that’s already pleated for you xx
Hiya! I get them from my wholesalers in the UK. They are a standard size here. If you ask for letter frames for a funeral, they will be able to get you them, or I would resort to getting them offline like Amazon xx
£10 for the letters. Add 50% would be £15 total. If you charge £20 you doubled the cost. Not sure if I misheard you, but I thought you said 50% markup.
I think I get what you mean now. I double the price of my sundries and triple the price of the flowers. So on my profit and loss statement it will show the percentage as a whole in % of what I spent on flowers and sundries minus the cost of what I bought them for. It’s a bit confusing, so say I made £500 in revenue and it cost me £166.66 in flowers and materials I would be working on a profit of a 70% margin or if I make £500 in revenue and spend £250 on flowers and materials I would be working at a 50% margin. I will try and make this more clear in my other videos xx
I normally put a card on the arrangement and on the back I will put what the arrangement is, just in case the card falls off and the name of the deceased xx
@@jemsfloralstudiotheacademy7091 hi I can do the pleats and put it on the hearts and other but it's just the letters because I don't no how it goes on thanks
