    Seeing the amount hard work put into this makes me appreciate the episode a lot more, but I'm still left baffled as to why even a shred of that same effort and commitment couldn't have been used to make the writing and storytelling a little smoother.

    • @Buffy8Fan
      @Buffy8Fan 7 років тому +3

      It wasn't as smooth this season because someone made the decision to reduce the episodes number. The legnth of the episodes could and would and should not fix that. Considering how much plot and characters they had to work with, we were lucky as a viewing audience that whoever made that decision had good enough writers on the show to keep the whole series going without it turning into something more like The Jurassic World or Termintator 3 or even Twilight and 50 Shades.

      They don't just, "decide," to make the seasons shorter.
      We get to see as many episodes as we do because that is the absolute MOST they are physically able to make, given their budget, and the length of an Earth year.
      They discussed this at Comic-Con just last year.
      The number of episodes we see every season is dependent upon ONLY the amount of time and money available to them.
      If they wanted to add another two episodes, they would have to make sacrifices of production value, or, slow the rotation of the Earth so that there were more hours in a day.
      The production doesn't take breaks between seasons, they are continuously either shooting in multiple countries simultaneously with at least two, (and up to four,) units, or they are in pre-, or post-production.
      In a 365 1/4 day year, with the amount of money available, (which is never going to be, 'unlimited,') what we see is the absolute BEST anyone would be able to do.
      We should all feel lucky that the show is being made by the people that are making it.
      We should all APPRECIATE that the show that we get has the story quality and production value that it has!
      They could use the time and money available to make an HBO series as long as, "OZ," or, "Soprano's," but, it wouldn't have ANY Dragons, or Direwolves, and it would probably be mostly only a small fraction of our favorite main characters sitting in a room, or walking down a street or a hallway or something talking.
      Obviously, it's impossible to please EVERYONE.
      I just spent like 10 whole minutes of my life, that I'll never get back, complaining about complaining.
      And, it's never as if the people who are SO incessantly critical have ever had anything worthwhile of their OWN to contribute!
      I mean, when will we see the behind-the-scenes clips for YOUR multiple award-winning, worldwide phenomena of an epic HBO series being discussed in a UA-cam comment section?
      Huh?!?

      Agreed. I love the show & have crazy respect for all the work that goes into it, but this was a fail. Not only was the plan, (to convince Cersai, of all ppl, to work w/them, no less) &having Jon, "the King of the North" go out there, UTTERLY RIDICULOUS, but the pacing made zero sense. One of the lines near the beginning was something like, "there isn't anything living w/in 100miles of here", so what... are we expected to believe Gendry ran 100miles to get help at Castle Black??
      Oh &the "fucking zombie polar bear" the directors begged for was dumb, & purely for spectacle.
      STILL LOVE THE SHOW, THO. Just hope they really bring the story - w/all the cleverness &intrigue - this season.

    I don’t know why people are so hard on Daeny. Tyrion killed how many people with wild fire and killed the women he loves. Once the battle was over she only killed two people and that made everyone else kneel. Everyone loves aegon he burned a whole castle filled with people. But for some reason when it’s a dragon doing the killing it somehow makes it worse. They are at war you can’t afford to feed all those prisoners. I don’t think daeny is bad at all. All her allies are died or captured and how many of those people died.

I hate when people deliberately spoil things for others. I mean as a Fan of the show, I never even tell if someone who is behind ask about future events! I guess some people have no respect for the story and fandom!

      I just can't help to think of the missing scene where Dany receives the raven calling for help and she takes the time to have a winter coat made - and it has to be superbly designed - since, you know, time isn't of the essence or anything. haha. So silly.

    Tormund had too many close calls. He's literally one of my faves, but he should've died here or at the fall of the wall, it just feels like a regular action show when it's like "ooooh he almost died but makes it out JUST in time"

    A few minor tweaks and this coulve been one of the best episode's they've ever done
    1. The writing/storytelling wasn't great (especially the whole winterfell plotline). If they had put the same amount of effort into it as the cinematic aspect of the episode it could've been unreal
    2. I don't think the wight bear was used very well. Maybe they could've incorporated it into the battle on the frozen lake instead? Idk it just seemed like an awkward scene stuck in the middle of the episode where some important characters almost died but didn't
    PS: In terms of the whole speed of ravens and whatnot I don't actually mind it too much as the wait time for the lake to freeze could be interpreted as a couple of days and they've definitely accelerated time in previous seasons so idk why people make such a big deal of it

    My problems with this episode
    1) Daenerys Ex Machina
    2) Winterfell plot
    3) Why did Jon go when he's the most important person in the series?
    4) Benjen Ex Machina
    5) Travel Distances
    6) They pussied out of killing anyone important
    7) Why didn't the Night King go for Drogon who was just sitting still?
    8) Why didn't the Night King just throw the javelins at Jon and his crew before the dragons arrived?
    9) All but one wight dies
    10) Why didn't Jon just get on the dragon?
    11) Where did the White Walkers get chains?

    • @ladyasriel7874
      @ladyasriel7874 7 років тому +12

      Wasn't the worst episode, that goes to Unbowed, Unbent & Unbroken, but yes the episode has a lot of problems. The scene of Dany and Tyrion just before she flies off with her dragons completely destroyed the suspense of the lake scene because you knew she was on the way. They should have cut that so we would have been left wondering if they got a message to her on time. Not only that, but how the hell did they chain that dragon up.... Euron asks in Episode 7 if wights can swim and he's told no.... so how the hell did the chains end up there? Instead they should have had the Night King resurrect Viserion and have him burst out of the ice. Would've been a more dramatic shot and no need for convenient chains from no where.

    • @May04bwu
      @May04bwu 7 років тому +4

      Chaining up the dragon is pretty easily explainable. What should have been different the way the story was told. I agree with that.
