As a Christian who has listened to this song a few times, I think it is a variation on Friedrich Nietzsche's statement "God Is Dead And We Have Killed Him" in 1882 was not a cause for despair but rather a liberating force. As evident is the lines “Jesus is dead and so is New York. Cuz I am not the world.” I could be wrong but that is how I hear it.
But when Nietzsche said it he was talking about how we’d finally left slave morality behind and become strong instead of weak as religion makes us according to him. So if they are referencing Nietzsche, it’s not a positive for us Christians but an absolute negative or else they seriously misunderstand/misuse neitzchse.

As a bleachers fan since their first album, I’m kinda scared lol. This song is good live but tbh it’s kinda on the duller sides out of all their songs. Gone Now will always be their best artwork. But can’t wait to hear more of the self titled before I make any judgements

On their next album: "Hail the Antichrist!". I have small doubts whether a song "Jesus is alive" is suitable for public consumption nowadays. On the other hand, if you feature a guest on your show that has proclaimed "god is dead" in his talks on the WEF stage in the past, that's a very fitting musical closure. I don't mind, as long as the "profane apes" are given a choice. Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law.
