Just a tip for the rest of us: 1) say you changed into manual 1/50. 2) You set iso to the lowest value 3) and start putting the Nd filters. You want the filter that gets you to EV 0.0 which you can see on the screen. 4) If it's not achievable and the next ND makes EV jump a lot, you can then pump iso from 50 to say 100. 5) You want to be between +0.3 and -0.3. I prefer -0.3 because you have more details and you can brighten it later.
That's when you shoot in 24p, correct? Wouldn't it be better to shoot in 30p and 1/60, then downconvert to 24p once the edit is finished in the editing software?
i get it but id guess the image improvements are fairly small and honestly its the factor of how quick you can get rolling that is what makes the pocket so great
The image improvements are massive, production value goes up 10 fold. It really depends on what you want to achieve. I think for B roll and stuff it’s great but if you’re just doing a vlog it’s not too big of a deal. For me I’m doing automotive photography so it’s important for me
Thanks for the video I've just received my DJ Osmo pocket three and I can't wait to use it today. Thank you for the videos. I've had a look at some of the other stuff as well and really useful information. I'm a professional photographer so I'm really good with a normal camera but really haven't used a lot of video and one of the things that put me off video was carrying around a big camera like a mirror camera or a DSLR to do video. That's the reason I got this camera is it small light and pocketable.
Same here, I think/hope that's their next move. Just an easy to use, foolprof gimbalcamera and I will forget Canon with their rf mount and expensive lenses!
Hi Connor thanks for putting out this video its a great guide. I wanted to get your input on one thing if possible. ive seen many people dial down the sharpness and noise reduction in the camera settings and wanted to get your take on that. personally ive always struggled with sharpening in post because I have a tenancy of over sharpening so ive left the settings in the camera to its default but would love to get your input on that and your process? thanks!
its informative but I think it goes against what the camera is all about and will eventually do more harm than good. This camera is about ease of shooting but more importantly... moving around. With manual settings eventually the video shoot will move from a brighter scene (a sunny lake) to a darker scene (dense forest behind you) and its going to ruin the image. Factor in that there is a risk of the photographer not noticing the gimbal isnt properly aimed... its just way too many things to keep track of all at once, for minimal benefit.
Depends on what you are using it for but fair enough. Automatic mode works plenty fine for most situations and people. Just sharing how you could improve it if you wanted to.
@@connormccaskill aaaah I see. I’ve been wanting to try resolve with my Fuji flog2 h.265 but I heard from someone else that it the free version doesn’t play nice with it. I’m gonna take a look again thanks!
Well, the ND isn’t doing anything for color, it’s only affecting your exposure. So ND are definitely still important and useful when recording in 10 bit. It is specifically for keeping your shutter speed at the correct angle
@@connormccaskill i just thought id point it out as you recommended it, and im sure people will run in to issues if they try and use it with 10 bit footage. I too have the paid version and wouldnt use anything else now.
I found that the 10 bit Normal profile worked fine in the free version of Davinci resolve using H264. However, when switching to Dlog-M, it did not work. The video plays back but not correctly. There is all sorts of odd colour issues, bright patches, wrong colours etc etc

⬆️ I could’ve explained it better. Thanks for expounding on what I said in the video
@@connormccaskill no you explained it perfectly. It's just something I saw somewhere and thought other people would benefit from it.

@@romanmenyhart it depends where you live. As far as I know, in the us, you are correct. 30p is the norm. In Europe, it is not.

I mean, I often shoot it in auto. But when you need/want the quality, it’s pretty capable
@@connormccaskill no doubt

I hope you enjoy using your new Osmo Pocket! It is a fun little tool. Thanks for watching the video and commenting
Great video !!! Just one thing - if you film in 10 bit - Davinci free will not work - as far as I know right ?
Hmmm to be honest I’m not 100% sure. But my memory is telling me that when I used the free version before, I was able to edit 10bit log footage.
I used this same colour correction technique on my MAVIC 3 footage and it turned out great, thank you :)
You’re welcome!
Your log footage is actually clipping bro !!
I’ve resisted ordering one of these so far but I might be powerless on that X100VI preorder 😂
Oh yeah I will be ordering that Fujifilm asap ha
Great instructional video. I can see how someone could take that camera with your settings and produce some really nice content.
Much appreciated!
Your videos and delivery have been great Connor! Keep it up. Just waiting for DJI to come out with a line of cinema cameras. They're the future.

That would be awesome 👏 we do have those Ronin 4Ds which are dope
@@connormccaskill if they can get a smaller 4D with zoom lenses/multiple lenses (like iphone), they will eat up market share
Great video! I use the osmo quite frequently as a b cam for interviews. I am lloking for luts to match it with my Canon Eos R.
Thanks! You could convert the D-Log footage to C-Log in DaVinci Resolve
Great video, thank you. Would you know how to fix the lens distortion created by the wide angle lens in Final Cut Pro? Thank you.
I’ll look into it. If I find something out, I’ll let you know!

What is the link for the ND filter ?
I think it's in the description
the DJI ND filters do not fit correctly !
would you recommend using d-log m in concert like Environment? mostly dark with a lot of flashing & moving lights
Totally, I would just do some tests to make sure you like the final result. The Osmo Pocket also has a lowlight mode you could try
Thanks for sharing.. how to make videos object behinds Blair.. please.?

Does anyone know what the base ISO is for 10bit? It’s not normally the lowest the camera can go.
Does resolve’s free version process the log footage?
I believe it does yes, I’m just not sure you’d have access to the color space transform specifically

Made it myself 🤙🏻
With 10 bit and adjust the ev I would suggest you no longer need nd filters with 8 but yes 10 bit no - you have so much more colour to work with

I thought the free version of Resolve didn’t work with 10bit files. Has this changes recently?
That may be true, tbh, I don't remember exactly what comes in the free version since I've bought the pro version

I cant close the pocket with the filters :( tried 3 brands
The freewells work fine for me.
Hahaha! So complicated! Is that video in English? Totally not getting it! Hahaha!
Well some of these terms are important if you’re trying to up your camera game! That said, just shooting in automatic mode totally works as well
