Gambling Sites in Counter-Strike Rant

- CS:GO has been plagued by controversy over the years, from matchfixing scandals, to scummy gambling site scams. Much of this is the direct result of a monetary value associated with the in game items. It's difficult to find a content creator, pro player, or any organization at all that isn't directly associated with these scummy gambling sites, which are very possibly targeted towards children as well. It should never have gotten to the point it is right now, and I personally want nothing to do with the Counter-Strike 'community' with this sort of stuff going on. SHUT IT DOWN!

Hello brother.
that was pretty good

no, hes csgos understanding step dad. Gaben is the child-neglecting birth dad.

He's CSGO'S daddy

Lots of respect for WarOwl, seriously. Probably the most genuine content creator who's not a sellout and actually has ethics.
3K is like that too.
all youtube creators are here for money if you dont hink so your deluding yourself
Yes, it is their job. But do you honestly think that doing something for a living automatically means that ethics go out the window? If that were true, TheWarOwl and 3kliksphilip would have already accepted many advertising deals with these gambling sites.
Bozocow Bullshit. Everybody has a price, like it or not.
Kenneth Nguyen but some have a damn high price lol and thats something to be commended for

Hey WarOwl, thank you, I really needed this video.
I've gambled SO much in the last 2 months that it's making me physically ill (the stress of loss, the high of a win). I have a great inventory, yet I keep wanting more.. addiction creeps up.
I guess I'm writing this to hold myself accountable out aloud.
I'm sure you've had professional recommendations by now, but try to replace that addiction with another one. It's not easy of course, but try many solutions.

WarOwl's hair is mesmerizing
6 years later. Video still holds up even when gambling isn’t ruining the game anymore.
Nope, more rampant. Even Valve has partnered with one of the betting sites for crying out loud in recent years.
Look at Jeff's video and you'll see why it's more ridiculous now.
don't know what you are on about. There are more gambling sites than ever before
"Counter Strike i think is a very special game, its a game where your character doesn't get better, you get better, when i was young and i was playing counter strike i learned so many great lessons for life from it, it was a competitive outlet, its was a social outlet, I learned that you put time an energy into something you get something out of it, if you want something in life you go out there and get it, you make it happen you put in the work you put in the hours, you put in the practice". -WarOwl
I got Mad respect for you dude.
Quote from a wise man.
Damn it the ninjas are chopping onions in my room again!!!
love you war owl I never even buy skins.
+Alex Schnellinger why not
spending money is fun
The case opening in itself is already gambling.
Opening cases are like opening trading cards or boxes with random characters, but with more monetary diversity (some are .01¢, some are $100,000)
not true, you always win
+Stephanos no lmao, you're paying $2.70, and how often do you at least break even? Not very often. Most of the time you could have bought the skin you got for a few cents.
+Stewie Stewart ok so opening Pokemon cards is gambling
The fact that you can theoretically make a lot of money by opening a case but most of the time lose money definitely turns it into the traditional sense of gambling.
It's so sad that it's been 7 years and that topic is still with us. I hope Jeff's videos will change something for CS2, cuz it's getting to a point were Valve might have really big problems and big problems for Valve = big problems for CS2.

all I'm saying is: Kids who are too young to gamble shouldn't be playing CSGO to begin with.
I mean even if you are above gambling age you still cant gamble online. Since you know thats illegal, at least in the USA.
Not where i'm from
Yea, but parents care less and less about their children these days, in days when they are in the biggest danger, and no i dont mean video games. I mean life. About 20 years ago there wasn't even half this much danger in the life of a 10 yo, and parents cared about their kids more than they do now. Of course im talking in general now.
Not true, you don't have to be 18/21 to play CS and even then if you did have to be 18(which you don't) in some places gambling restrictions are at 21
nem tudom "Danger" as in "things we don't want our kids to know or understand about life" ? Crime in the first world is down in all areas from 20 years ago. Violent Crime is at an all time low in modern society. The biggest danger to our children is not being there to help them understand the hardships and confusing ideals of the world. It's to the point where we can say protecting your children from things you don't want them to know or learn yet is impossible with an internet connection. A solution to this would be a different approach than just trying to control and regulate. IMO, ofc.
You called it all those years back. Look what this sh*t got us. Watching this again after 7 years ... Who plays counter strike these days? Greedy flexers? What do those people do? Cheat ....
Its crazy to see this video today. I am now 18 years old and started csgo gambling when I was about 12-13. And when you look back at it now how many sites where exposed of being rigged and having some advantages for youtubers in place so they always win and all that stuff. I can definetly say from the bottom of my heart and with all my hate towards such sites that I have now: If I knew that stuff back in the day I wouldve run my own site and scamming people ngl. Im one of the most honest people I know but I know for sure if the oppertunity wouldve came back then for me to start my own site and scam 1000s of dollars every day in an unregulated market without paying taxes and shit that I wouldve too done that.
Though I dont know If I would do that If I wasnt being scammed for 5+ years and every cent I put in to csgo wouldve still been in my pocket.
cheers
btw what the fuck are these globals playing like xd looks like a silver elite match or something

valve needs to ban it and seek legal action on the sites
Yeah but it encourages people to buy more skins or get more keys for cases and valve sits there like "Ohh nice more money, can we get a new case please? someone go on the community skins and pick random shit ones to put in a new case"
Icrus sears and dismiss
Not all sites some are for renting and selling.
@@chonkyboi7542 So?
I worked out that I've spent about £80 overall on cases and skins. It does rack up pretty quickly - I didn't feel awful about it because I didn't go into it expecting to win every time. Gambling's fine, as long as you are going into it for the fun of the gamble, and not for the prayer of the win.
That's how gambling works. There are 90% of people who play for the fun of it and can quit any time. But 10% of people have a tendency to have a gambling problems and so they play and play and play until they are in debt. Go to Las Vegas, you will always see some lonely old people sitting at slot machines wasting their money little by little.
Gambling is straight up just a tax on stupid people.

why does every youtuber use the same motivational line"If you put work in it, you get it" like wtf
Because thats how it is, hard Work=higher chance at success
Being a UA-camr is being an entrepreneur, it takes a massive amount of time, dedicated, hard work, and perseverance to 'make it'. It's also a true free competitive market, with a very small cost to entry. If you're listening to a professional UA-camr, you're listening to someone who has struggled working 80hr weeks for little pay for years trying to build something. I think that's why.
well I did say higher chance instead of it guaranteeing success
But aren't their sponsorships that make you a little bit more money, i don't know how hard it is to be a youtuber... I don't know how it is to put all that time and effort in something that "might work out" Allot of people put hard work into youtube , and have a little over 100 or 1000 subs. Thats why i don't believe the line "if you put work in it, you get it". Thanks for the response btw
Those people who have 100 or 1000 subs are simply not good enough a.k.a they don't produce enough quality content to continuously appeal to viewers. Which is the most difficult thing to do. Which involves putting a lot of work in.
Even before all this gambling bullshit came to surface, you're definitely the most legit CS UA-camr. Even though I might not agree with all your tutorials and videos, you're still a saint in a demonised community. Keep it up mate.

Gotta admit, when CSGO first came out with the Skins and crates, Steam market didn't exist and so gambling was never a thing. But after the Steam Market was released and became available to everyone without Valve overseeing them, gambling on CSGO became huge. If Steam Market didn't exist, none of this would have happened. Valve needs to counter this by creating a "Official CSGO Skin Store" like DotA 2 to counter this gambling and the Steam Market prices. A ♥♥♥♥ing Karambit UltraViolet can cost around 500$, if they make an Official store and sell it for like 20$, the Steam Market prices will plummet and the CSGO gambling sites will have no purpose but to shut-down everything. Valve is being sued for this and they know very well that they are actually profiting from the "Gambling" and Steam Market.
Valve isnt going to lose the case, and they dont profit off of sites, the profit off of skins so its a win for valve and a win for gambling sites and thats all
Valve profits from gambling sites. When people lose skins they either buy more skins from the marketplace or they buy keys to either open more cases or trade them for skins. In the case where they buy keys Valve profits even more than these gambling sites.
Ive been here since the beginning and steam market came the same day cs go cases came just like with tf2... There was never a "hurr durr cs skins wasnt worth anything first but then came steam market" they were always worth something (steam money to buy other games, trading other skins) and Also why would valve put up a shop for skins with set prices? When they already profit legally from knives like crimson webs that is worth 350-1500 in minimal wear condition and factory new 1200-4000 depending if it has "stattrak" so 20$ straight or take 5%-10% from 4000? Which is 200-400$. Valve is a profitabel company which wants to make the most amount of money legally possible and does not care about these "breaking news" and lawsuits do you know why? Because the only connection valve has to gambling sites is that they allow you to login with a steam account and if they simply remove that valve is yet again 100% safe in terms of the law and now websites just needs to make it so that you log in
+zXTheFoxXz with an account you create on their site while using steam accounts to trade the skins with, like a 3rd party website and the gambling continues, valve earning money from it 100% legal again and underaged gambling continues
people buying skins doesnt give valve money because to trade the skins they need to buy it from
1 - a third party website not affiliated with valve
2 - the steam market which people will need to wait a week before trading because of the limitation in steam. Buying from the steam market is what gives steam money, not buying from third party sites or even trading with them, so people saying that valve makes money off of gambling sites are completely wrong
the cod Dias at the end LOL

Just want to add that cs go case opening is basicly gambling and thus illegal but because it is in skins its not illegal.
N O P E
By your logic Opening Card Packs is also gambling!
Card packs is in most games free to get + cs go case opening to be fair is just a slot machine Put money in and have a 20 percent chance to get profit.
+Floris Pieternella then Pokemon tins are considered gambling. They do cost $20
Floris Pieternella I'm sorry but I meant like pokemon packs. You pay to open them and then you get gud stuff or crap stuff.
Plus you earn free cases and can earn keys.
Its pretty much gambling but at a legal standpoint it is not since you can't directly make cash from the skins you get through steams system.
- Gambling: Gambling is the wagering of money or something of value on an event with an uncertain outcome with the primary intent of winning additional money and/or material goods.

Opening csgo cases has way worse odds than roulette.
Not saying you advise we open cases like you but you technically gamble with terrible odds.
The market value comes from the amount you can win. Over a hundred openings, you will average slightly less than $2.50 per case, due to the free drops. If I'm remembering this correctly, you have something in the 70%s to get a blue (translation, lose), around 5% for a red and less than 1% for a knife. The odds are indeed terrible if you are only opening 1 case, but with a little common sense and basic econ, you should know that.
yea true, but at least you know your gonna lose. lol
opening cases isn't what he's talking about in this rant. He's talking about websites such as CGLOTTO.com and all those similar.
He says hes wasting money and does not encourage ppl to do it
Two definitions of gambling:
1. play games of chance for money; bet
2. take risky action in the hope of a desired result
WarOwl doesn't open cases in hopes of receiving high value skins or profiting off the cases. He does it for entertainment purposes which is not gambling. By definition, he is not gambling on cases.
"It's all about the game." -Calhoun
5:49 angry war owl noise
CS:GO in-game case opening is gambling aswell, not only the sites.
""Not really, because with opening cases you are assured to get something." - Semispace. There are also some other reasons but ...." - reload (a guy in the comments who answered this)
So if I bet a dollar on a six-sided die roll and get a quarter * the number on the die, does that mean it's not gambling? I automatically get back at least one quarter.
It's no more gambling than kinder eggs or baseball cards. You pay a set price, and get a random item from a list of items. Valve doesn't offer any way to convert those items into real currency, therefore they have no monetary value and it is not gambling.
+Matthew Durkin blablabla... Its a gamble dont be silly
Matthew Durkin By that logic, then, it's not gambling to wager one skin against another.
I agree. But at the same time it's a kind of natural selection : if you're dumb enough to spend hundreds of $ on pixels, there will always be people to take them from you, and at this game, valve ain't last.
+GuardiaNES do you see the difference between cs go gambling and getting robbed in an alley
It is totally different thing to take a life and took someone's money because they give it to you.
+Jerrycho Stem all analogies are j herently false, but i think the point that he is trying to make is that it is morally wrong to knowingly exploit a persons weakness for your own personal gain. people make bad descisions all the time, but it is not up to a person to punish them for it, let alone profit from it.
The definition of natural selection is that the species with properties adapted best to the environment will have a bigger chance to live and reproduce. How does your statement correlate with natural selection?
Most of these are children. They didnt have the time yet to get not dumb.
that's why I deleted all the cases in my inventory whenever I get them...after I got my Asiimov AWP
I've just recently gotten back in Cs and have found you because of this. I have always enjoyed your content but this has given me a deep seated respect for you. Thanks man, "Wp."
Csgo has also influenced a lot games to add these in game skins and crates, for example. Call Of Duty, League Of Legends, Smite. Its ridiculous how we now have to pay for a game and then spend even more money to get some fucking pixels. Paying £30-£60 and then having to pay for some visual effects that dont change the game what so ever and let me add, that theyre a fucking rip off too. Not worth it, games really do disappoint me these days
EDIT: people raised some good points about overwatch not being a real big problem, and i agree. (so i have taken that one out) My point was that CSGO has influenced a lot of other games to add skins and who knows, that could be a problem for those games in the future
:'(
true man . hope gambling stops. kids losing money and so many crazy adults losing thousands of $ just to make some virtual items . it's really sad to see the community promoting betting and gambling.
dragon trail yeah man
CSGO wasn't the first game to do that. And this way is way better than what used to be the trend, pay money for items that have gameplay effects. Skins don't actually affect the gameplay.
You don't HAVE TO buy skins/crates, it is optional stuff. The game itself works without them. What are you on about?
But the cases in CS:GO alone are gambling?
Loop holes.
Gacha. Look that up.
+ArkTheOverlord Gacha is a loophole. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, they have a "lottery" system where you can put in coins to win trophies. Since Lotto is gambling and gambling is illegal in Japan (or at least then), they had to rename it to "gacha". Gacha itself is a gamble to begin with, but technically it has honest chances in things like cases, regardless of how low the odds are, not to mention the fact that Gachas always cash out, regardless of how bad the item is.
lolll
See as the definition of gamble is "the wagering of money or something of value (referred to as "the stakes") on an event with an uncertain outcome with the primary intent of winning additional money and/or material goods." Gacha is buying a thing, that you don't know what it is, but you know it's going to be this toy. You are not wagering anything. If you want to label gacha as gambling, you need to label every TCG/CCG, seeing as in Magic, you can buy a booster pack that has cards in it, but you don't know what you're getting.
7:33 That is why I have beeb watching WarOwl for over five years.
Man the more I watch your videos the more i respect you i wish you the best
pro tip : when WarOwl says "I still have no closer", hit the L key on your keyboard and you'll jump straight to the extra content
Isn't opening cases Gambling too?
Not really, because with opening cases you are assured to get something.
***** You're always paying the same price for a reward, which can be better or worse.
but since the community market places value on items. you can still lose money...
So are things like pokemon tradingcards, balls with small figures in them etc. also gambling? Those are closer to the CS cases than a slot machine, as you are guaranteed to get the same amount of reward each time, but the value of said rewards are somewhat random.
If case opening was gambling, then opening Pokemon Card Packs would be gambling too :O
what are your thoughts on drake and he'll case sites? there even worse.
4:02 "George is getting upset!"
1M Subscriber Special: "My name is Brent"
I've never done the whole coin flip/jackpot thing, but betting on teams I think is better as there is some skill/analysis involved.
It's always been controlled with a budget and all that.
Wise words btw, this is the only vid that actually add to the situation.
it's only natural to bet on teams imo, since it's a sport and the scale of cs in the professional scene. i mean why should betting on basketball, football or soccer be okay but not on a video game
Darkgun63 Yeah when u put it like that it makes sense. Online gambling is just dumb, you cant even see let alone understand the algorithm that determines your fate.
Twitch.tv stream squad reporting in!
How has gambling changed since this video? Can you make another video on the problems with gambling?
1) *video ends* *skinhub ad plays* :(
2)the CoD roast at the end tho
That chair is boss like.
A boss like chair, which explains who is the boss.
And the boss must be you, because you sit in that chair.
Like a boss.
Boss chair.
I love that subtle wreck at the end George :)
George was a Seinfeld reference
Hes not George (might be but likely not)
yeah , but .. come on ... every body is named George .. there is like 40 % you to be named George ... xD
xDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
someone else said it was seinfeld reference.
@warowl what are your thoughts on cases themselves being plain gambling too? opening them is almost the same as poker machines.
So glad that people like you and 23kliks made a video about this, I think there was a pro player who named his knife "Not From A Gambling Site" or sth like that to mock all the pros who got their knife sponsored by these sites.
PS: I don't do gambling but if I like the skins, I jsut buy it from AwwPeeSkeensDATKom.
Warowl reminds me of the caster Anders. Just me? Idk what it is but i was hearing him casting and they showed him and i was like dude, this guys reminds me of Warowl 100%
You're not alone lol. I thought of the warowl when I saw Anders for the first time
First time i saw Anders i thought he was WarOwl.
SilveR Only difference is Anders is a little bit on the heavier side.
The odds are never in your favour
the ad before the vid was about about a csgo gambling site
I cannot commend you enough for taking this position; very rare in today's world. Wish you all the success you seek.
Off topic: love your videos, great production, seen every one (i think) and some repeatedly.
"Land of the free" he says, while carefully avoiding 'no-no' words or he might get sued.
3:53 "But, this stuff is being targeted toward childrens "
Im having a flash back about another guy ,replace WarOwl within this video
"ITS TIME TO STOP - THIS IS CANCER ,THIS IS SO MUCH CANCER :D"
WHERE ARE YOUR PARENTS?
tbh 90% of CSGO players are 18+ it rarely that i meet a squeaker on csgo
PapaFranku
i wouldn't say 18+ i would say around 15+
Many boys stop squeaking after age 14-15. I believe there to be more people under 18 than over playing cs:go.
I just thought of the best thing nearly three years later.
he'd take the money then cut contact with the line saying you made a gamble and you lost.
hey can you do a video on whats better trading up to a knife, or buying a starter knife and then work up from there
Somehow its gross how gambling in CSGO has developed. 50% of CSGO UA-camrs are sponsored by dubious gambling sites and don't care about their viewers well-being. Thankfully there are channels like 3kliksphilip or your channel that have a better attitude than all this other channels.
Thanks for that!
Agreed
%50? :D I think it is way more than 50. Probably %90 or something close to that.
Denis Olehov Sadly, UA-camrs like Syndicate, Sparklez and so on have a much larger fanbase than channels like WarOwls.
+StarStriker4101 exactly what I'm talking about. But Sparkles has a talent, sad to see how he treats his subscribers
3:58 How am I 14 and recognise that reference?
wow war owl is so kind he goes through every step and makes weeks of videos how to play the game and showing us how to own noobs then he stands up for us and protects the children that watch his content
Gambling is like this. You spin you lose. You are like " the odds are impossible", but you spin again because you are SURE to win.
Exactly! My man!...ITS ABOUT THE GAME FOR GOD SAKE!!!...Thank you for uploading this, very good and right opinion...
Gambling is stupid and every gambling site should get shut down.
Dude tons of respect for this!! Now more than ever I support you and all you do! Best of luck to you! Hope I see you in game sometime!!
I really respect you way more now! I started csgo recently and have found your content to be very entertaining! Thank you for what you do WarOwl!!
