  • CS:GO has been plagued by controversy over the years, from matchfixing scandals, to scummy gambling site scams. Much of this is the direct result of a monetary value associated with the in game items. It's difficult to find a content creator, pro player, or any organization at all that isn't directly associated with these scummy gambling sites, which are very possibly targeted towards children as well. It should never have gotten to the point it is right now, and I personally want nothing to do with the Counter-Strike 'community' with this sort of stuff going on. SHUT IT DOWN!

About 20 years ago there wasn't even half this much danger in the life of a 10 yo, and parents cared about their kids more than they do now. Of course im talking in general now.

      nem tudom "Danger" as in "things we don't want our kids to know or understand about life" ? Crime in the first world is down in all areas from 20 years ago. Violent Crime is at an all time low in modern society. The biggest danger to our children is not being there to help them understand the hardships and confusing ideals of the world. It's to the point where we can say protecting your children from things you don't want them to know or learn yet is impossible with an internet connection. A solution to this would be a different approach than just trying to control and regulate. IMO, ofc.

    Its crazy to see this video today. I am now 18 years old and started csgo gambling when I was about 12-13. And when you look back at it now how many sites where exposed of being rigged and having some advantages for youtubers in place so they always win and all that stuff. I can definetly say from the bottom of my heart and with all my hate towards such sites that I have now: If I knew that stuff back in the day I wouldve run my own site and scamming people ngl. Im one of the most honest people I know but I know for sure if the oppertunity wouldve came back then for me to start my own site and scam 1000s of dollars every day in an unregulated market without paying taxes and shit that I wouldve too done that.
    Though I dont know If I would do that If I wasnt being scammed for 5+ years and every cent I put in to csgo wouldve still been in my pocket.
    cheers

    I worked out that I've spent about £80 overall on cases and skins. It does rack up pretty quickly - I didn't feel awful about it because I didn't go into it expecting to win every time. Gambling's fine, as long as you are going into it for the fun of the gamble, and not for the prayer of the win.

      That's how gambling works. There are 90% of people who play for the fun of it and can quit any time. But 10% of people have a tendency to have a gambling problems and so they play and play and play until they are in debt. Go to Las Vegas, you will always see some lonely old people sitting at slot machines wasting their money little by little.

      Being a UA-camr is being an entrepreneur, it takes a massive amount of time, dedicated, hard work, and perseverance to 'make it'. It's also a true free competitive market, with a very small cost to entry. If you're listening to a professional UA-camr, you're listening to someone who has struggled working 80hr weeks for little pay for years trying to build something. I think that's why.

I don't know how it is to put all that time and effort in something that "might work out" Allot of people put hard work into youtube , and have a little over 100 or 1000 subs. Gotta admit, when CSGO first came out with the Skins and crates, Steam market didn't exist and so gambling was never a thing. But after the Steam Market was released and became available to everyone without Valve overseeing them, gambling on CSGO became huge. If Steam Market didn't exist, none of this would have happened. Valve needs to counter this by creating a "Official CSGO Skin Store" like DotA 2 to counter this gambling and the Steam Market prices. A ♥♥♥♥ing Karambit UltraViolet can cost around 500$, if they make an Official store and sell it for like 20$, the Steam Market prices will plummet and the CSGO gambling sites will have no purpose but to shut-down everything. Valve is being sued for this and they know very well that they are actually profiting from the "Gambling" and Steam Market.

    • @oldbalogna9926

      Valve isnt going to lose the case, and they dont profit off of sites, the profit off of skins so its a win for valve and a win for gambling sites and thats all

    • @RoccoHorvath
      @RoccoHorvath 8 років тому

      Valve profits from gambling sites. When people lose skins they either buy more skins from the marketplace or they buy keys to either open more cases or trade them for skins. In the case where they buy keys Valve profits even more than these gambling sites.

    • @SkritchB
      @SkritchB 8 років тому

      Ive been here since the beginning and steam market came the same day cs go cases came just like with tf2... There was never a "hurr durr cs skins wasnt worth anything first but then came steam market" they were always worth something (steam money to buy other games, trading other skins) and Also why would valve put up a shop for skins with set prices? When they already profit legally from knives like crimson webs that is worth 350-1500 in minimal wear condition and factory new 1200-4000 depending if it has "stattrak" so 20$ straight or take 5%-10% from 4000? Which is 200-400$. Valve is a profitabel company which wants to make the most amount of money legally possible and does not care about these "breaking news" and lawsuits do you know why? Because the only connection valve has to gambling sites is that they allow you to login with a steam account and if they simply remove that valve is yet again 100% safe in terms of the law and now websites just needs to make it so that you log in

    • @SkritchB
      @SkritchB 8 років тому

      +zXTheFoxXz with an account you create on their site while using steam accounts to trade the skins with, like a 3rd party website and the gambling continues, valve earning money from it 100% legal again and underaged gambling continues

    • @oldbalogna9926
      @oldbalogna9926 8 років тому +1

      people buying skins doesnt give valve money because to trade the skins they need to buy it from
      1 - a third party website not affiliated with valve
      2 - the steam market which people will need to wait a week before trading because of the limitation in steam. Buying from the steam market is what gives steam money, not buying from third party sites or even trading with them, so people saying that valve makes money off of gambling sites are completely wrong

    • @SkiDaBird
      @SkiDaBird 8 років тому +7

      The market value comes from the amount you can win. Over a hundred openings, you will average slightly less than $2.50 per case, due to the free drops. If I'm remembering this correctly, you have something in the 70%s to get a blue (translation, lose), around 5% for a red and less than 1% for a knife. The odds are indeed terrible if you are only opening 1 case, but with a little common sense and basic econ, you should know that.

      Two definitions of gambling:
      1. play games of chance for money; bet
      2. take risky action in the hope of a desired result
      WarOwl doesn't open cases in hopes of receiving high value skins or profiting off the cases. He does it for entertainment purposes which is not gambling. By definition, he is not gambling on cases.

      So if I bet a dollar on a six-sided die roll and get a quarter * the number on the die, does that mean it's not gambling? I automatically get back at least one quarter.

      It's no more gambling than kinder eggs or baseball cards. You pay a set price, and get a random item from a list of items. Valve doesn't offer any way to convert those items into real currency, therefore they have no monetary value and it is not gambling.

    I agree. But at the same time it's a kind of natural selection : if you're dumb enough to spend hundreds of $ on pixels, there will always be people to take them from you, and at this game, valve ain't last.

    Csgo has also influenced a lot games to add these in game skins and crates, for example. Call Of Duty, League Of Legends, Smite. Its ridiculous how we now have to pay for a game and then spend even more money to get some fucking pixels. Paying £30-£60 and then having to pay for some visual effects that dont change the game what so ever and let me add, that theyre a fucking rip off too. Not worth it, games really do disappoint me these days
    EDIT: people raised some good points about overwatch not being a real big problem, and i agree. (so i have taken that one out) My point was that CSGO has influenced a lot of other games to add skins and who knows, that could be a problem for those games in the future

    • @timothyjeon5988

      +ArkTheOverlord Gacha is a loophole. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, they have a "lottery" system where you can put in coins to win trophies. Since Lotto is gambling and gambling is illegal in Japan (or at least then), they had to rename it to "gacha". Gacha itself is a gamble to begin with, but technically it has honest chances in things like cases, regardless of how low the odds are, not to mention the fact that Gachas always cash out, regardless of how bad the item is.

    • @Pandonaut
      @Pandonaut 8 років тому

    • @arandomchannel69

      See as the definition of gamble is "the wagering of money or something of value (referred to as "the stakes") on an event with an uncertain outcome with the primary intent of winning additional money and/or material goods." Gacha is buying a thing, that you don't know what it is, but you know it's going to be this toy. You are not wagering anything. If you want to label gacha as gambling, you need to label every TCG/CCG, seeing as in Magic, you can buy a booster pack that has cards in it, but you don't know what you're getting.
