That's a very well presented review. Super clear, and adresses all aspects of interest. Super good to help decide if one wants to buy one or not. Thank you!
Mike Umphrey-Way To Go Kennels yeah it’s pretty sharp! I haven’t tried taking it out of the handle to sharpen but I had trouble sharping it in the handle because of the way it attaches.
Doing some research, and, in fact, the opportunity came up to obtain a used one, so came to be checkinbg out your video. Well done and appreciated. You obviously have the credentials to inform people like me about this tool.
Cant argue they are great knives for sure i have bought a few as gifts. I picked up a work sharp for the fur shed. It works great 3 strokes a side and youre holding a razor again. Best purchase ive made. I can say the havalon knife is outstanding i just dont like buying blades. Great review bud very comprehensive and thorough.
Nice review. I have that exact same knife in blaze orange color. I've used it on my last four deer and last two elk. I don't have the cool blade removal tool, but the pliers on my multi-tool work pretty well.
If you want a longer lasting edge, that is even finer and more polished and yes sharper go with Medblades #60 blades, 40 dollars for 100. They are literally true surgical blades, the edge is better then the Havalon and Gerber blades. They are stainless (not carbon steel) the edge quality is mirror finish and better steel quality. Caping a deer and they will still shave you easily. One blade will skin and process a deer and still be pretty good. Havalon makes a few blades for it. The 60A and 70A will be a thicker blade as you said. Now I will tell you something else, any knife that's using a #22XT, #60 blades will fit any scalpel blade that fits a number 4 scalpel handle. I really really love #23 scalpel blades on my knifes... They have a 1.4 inch blade so yes much shorter then the #60 blades but they are a wonder for skinning. Medblades sells 100 blades for 10 dollars that are #16 thru 25 (all those will fit that knife.) they also sell as I said #60 blades for 100 for 40 bucks. They are superior to the Havalon blades without a doubt. They hold a edge longer and I mean way longer then the Havalon blades or Gerber blades. It's pointless to buy the Havalon blades because 50 of the Medblades blades will absolutely outlast 100 Havalon blades and start off sharper to boot. If you really want the best skinning blade that is super precise for when you want that cape... Get you some number 23 scalpel blades from Medblades and use it with that knife and you will thank me later. The little short blade is a total razor and don't really flex at all because it's so close to the blade lock mechanism and because of that you have super precision and because the edge is just so fine and perfect and thin (the edge will hold up well so long as you aren't hitting bone and when caping you wouldn't be anyhow) that just ultra light touches do the skinning and you won't ever cut thru your cape because it required pressure to remove the hide is so far less then what it would take to cut the hide. There is a reason taxidermist fav tool is a #23 scalpel blade.
IF YOU WANT TO KEEP IT SHARP FOR A LITTLE LONGER YOU CAN TRY A LEATHER STROP. THATS WHAT I DID FOR MY REGULAR KNIVES AND A GUY SAID HE STROPS HIS RAZOR KNIFE.
That’s the kind I’ve been wanting to get!! I’m like u tho because I hate throwing any thing away! Nice review. Btw what’s the difference In it and the camo one because I can’t make my mind up on which one to get???????
Get a cheap carbide keychain sharpener. Just pull it though a couple times to keep a razor edge. That honing rod is the exact wrong tool for your needs.
Here we are 3 years from this video post and 100 pack of 60 XT blades are now $59.99 And so is the actual knife. TRUMP 2024 Make America affordable again
