  • Volunteers from New Brighton Lifeboat Station in Merseyside launched at the request of the Coastguard after reports of two people had become stranded at the end of a groyne, cut off by the tide.
    With swells of up to 1.5 metres and waves crashing onto the groyne where the casualties were stranded, it was impossible to maneouvre the lifeboat next to the casualties. This left only one option - a crew member would have to swim to the groyne to help them...

    The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, lifeboat crews around the UK and Ireland are ready to launch to help those in need. Whether you're stuck on a sinking ship, cut off by a rapidly rising tide, or in the water and close to drowning, RNLI crew members will drop everything to come to your rescue. 95% of RNLI lifeboat crews and station staff are volunteers.
    But it’s not just lifeboats. RNLI lifeguards patrol 248 beaches across the UK and Channel Islands, keeping people safe, providing safety advice and rescuing those in trouble. Education volunteers visit schools and swimming clubs to help teach the next generation how to enjoy the water safely. And volunteer fundraisers and shop workers give up their time to generate vital funds. The RNLI is also working to help communities around the world that are most at risk of drowning.
    If you spot someone in trouble in the water, call 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard.

    RNLI, I thank each and everyone of you. Every time you put to sea your life is on the line trying to rescue someone in distress. I have never been able to understand why the RNLI is not funded by central government, we live on a big island! Also not sure of the thumbs down, can't be thinking straight.

      There are a lot of reasons the RNLI are not funded by the government, and why they like it that way. Look it up. And i agree with you, these videos bring tears to my eyes sometimes. they go into the unknown so bravely.

    • @thisnicklldo
      @thisnicklldo 4 роки тому +13

      I agree with the thanks. As long as they are funded by donations, it's much better that they are not funded by government. Else they will go the way of libraries and swimming pools. Cummings will have a lunatic theory that all those drowning deserve their fate, or should use their lifeboat insurance via the private sector or something - you simply can't rely on government to maintain funding for anything that really matters.

    "i think that the emergency services are not given the credit that they deserve , they put their lives on the line as we have seen with this pandemic, but they don't actually get the recognition. We all hope we will never have to call 999, but we all sleep sounder in our beds because we know they are there, and they are just a phone call away, and these very professional people will suddenly spring into action" philip jackson sculptor for the emergency services memorial that will be erected in london if enough money is raised

    Please remember the many independent rescue boats around the country who do the same work as rnli.
    All risk their lives to save others and dont have the high level of awareness that rnli do.
    Please support your local rescue boats and the amazing work that all volunteers do.
    Simply Google rescue boats near you and offer them some help whether it be fundraising, training to be crew, donating or simply raising awareness of them by sharing posts and fundraisers.

    can someone explain to me, because I am not into this matter... but would they be able to attach a rope to the lifeguard swimming outside the boat? So you would be able to pull him in when can't get back to the boat. Is it too dangerous?

    • @rnli
      @rnli  4 роки тому

      Hi Gumli, there isn't a clear cut answer as it depends on the conditions of the rescue. A crew member entering the water is really a last resort and then it is a decision based on the conditions as to whether a safety line is appropriate. But the rescuer can hold a line to aid recovery if they deem it necessary.

      I had some out of date, too. Spoke with a very nice young lady at Holyhead Coastguard who put me in contact with someone at Crosby Coastguard Centre and we arranged for me to drop them off. All very simple and effective.

      Is there any place left for off the wall amusement.
      To bring it back on topic - that’s the sort of humour that will be exchanged just before the 3 metre wave hits the inshore lifeboat. Perhaps more likely when they come out of the other side upright and with everyone still on board.
      Keep it up chaps and chapesses (can I still say that......)

    So happy to see the RNLI doing what it does best, but I will not forgive them for assisting illegal migrant crossings and giving finds away abroad to buy swimming costumes for Muslims and teach them to swim etc. The guys are hero’s but the management are corrupt and don’t spend your donation on what you donate for.
