  • It's Christmas Eve and, while most of us were settling down to wait for Santa's arrival, pagers sounded for the crew at Newhaven Lifeboat Station; two paragliders are stranded at the base of a cliff with the tide closing in on top of them...

The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, lifeboat crews around the UK and Ireland are ready to launch to help those in need. Whether you're stuck on a sinking ship, cut off by a rapidly rising tide, or in the water and close to drowning, RNLI crew members will drop everything to come to your rescue. 95% of RNLI lifeboat crews and station staff are volunteers.
But it’s not just lifeboats. RNLI lifeguards patrol 248 beaches across the UK and Channel Islands, keeping people safe, providing safety advice and rescuing those in trouble. Education volunteers visit schools and swimming clubs to help teach the next generation how to enjoy the water safely. And volunteer fundraisers and shop workers give up their time to generate vital funds. The RNLI is also working to help communities around the world that are most at risk of drowning.
If you spot someone in trouble in the water, call 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard.

As an Electronics Engineer, I've had 3 distinct periods in my life, I was Brown goods Engineer with DSG, a broadcast Engineer with RTE and a Marine Electronics Engineer with the RNLI, at Poole and Divisional Base Ireland. . Without a doubt, the proudest years of my Engineering life was maintaining the Radar, Comms, and navigation electronics that work to help you guys and girls do what you do to Save Lives at Sea. You are all heroes and we thank you for your service.

The RNLI depends on folks like yourself. It's a team effort, and you and all the other engineers and volunteers and paid crew, and admin staff, and everyone that contributes to the RNLI's 24x7 uptime deserve praise.

A job well done as always, total respect for all the crews.
I still can't fathom the fascination for flying or leaving the ground at all, all travel for me is on land or sea. Flying anything for a hobby, no. One can circumnavigate the planet without flying, just takes a bit longer.

its just the class of boat, its more of a thing to identify the type/class of boat.
