I have been growing five culantro plants under LED lights (Kratky method). I germinated them on heating mats. They are fairly big now and tried to send up flower shoots which I clipped. I am harvesting all but one and dehydrating the leaves. I plan to repeat this process in the spring. It worked for me.

Hi! Thank you so much for this! Culantro sadly cannot be found in the market where I'm from, so the only way is to plant them myself. I stay in a small apartment and wondered if I can grow them hydroponically. Your video gives me so much hope!

I love cuantro. I'm making a big canister of culantro and it's cousin recao but the ones that grew are all giving out seeds. I live in Puerto Rico and i decided to grow them because we can save money since we use them everyday. You can also check them in the store and see which ones that has a piece of stem where the roots grow. Get 2 plastic cups. Cup 1-you make a few holes, fill it up with dirt, plant it and add a little bit of water. cup-2 you fill it with a bit of water so it doesn't dry up. When root comes out you can plant it or live it there until it time to replant it. This is how I started my canister. Awesome video.

Culantro grows all over the place back home Its warm all year round so you find it there all the time and we love it. and yes the reason it takes longer to germinate is that it likes it to be nice and warm.

Hi Khang, I'm a big fan and that was super informative! I was wondering if you had advice for growing not from seed but instead from a bunch (e.g. stem and leaves). Is there a way to do that hydroponically? Thanks so much!

Hey Kang. Your biggest fan here. I have grown some beautiful pepper plants from seed following your hydroponic videos. The plants are very lush and beautifully green. I’ve also started squash, cucumbers, and pumpkin. They started growing huge flowers just by leaving them in my window. I was unsure about pollination of the flowers so I took them out to my porch to see if the bees would come to pollinate. I live in a warm climate and we have bees test round. I noticed that one of the pumpkin plants has a small pumpkin growing on it. I was so excited. But I’m just curious to know about the pollination of the flowers. When they are left indoors how are they pollinated.? Thanks again for all your videos you have helped me so much to improve my gardening skills and get into hydroponics.

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  6 років тому

For peppers, you can simply shake the plants, they will pollinate themselves. Most self pollinators are this way. Check to see if your pumpkins are the same. IF they need to be pollinated, just rub the flower, the pollen part onto another flower. There are many videos on UA-cam that can show you that.

But i guess will be a while before germination.lol. take care.your videos are great and informative. Helps alot. Going to try a couple kratky. Take care.

Thank you for making these videos, I have a question about Kratky, and a question about grafting.
I've been trying to create my own franken pepper with Black Jalapeno, Chiltepin, Pepperoncini and whatever other unique pepper I can add.
I read somewhere that one of the most harty base plants are your standard Jalapenos.
    • What would you recommend as the best base plant to support multiple grafts?
My second question is, I've attempted to grow standard Jalapeno plants in Kratky setups, everything goes fine until I transplant them into my 2.5 ga bucket.
Each time (3 times so far) the plant stagnates and dies.
After autopsy, I notice a distinct odor of rot, but I'm following your, Jeb, and Dr. Bernard Kratky's model to the best of my ability.
I've even attempted an air stone on the last time, and the exact same thing happened.
I always dechlorinate, set my PH to 5.5-6.2, set my TDS to about 500-800 (low for seedlings) using General Hydroponics - Maxigrow 10-5-14 nutrients.
I ensure each seedling is about 8cm tall when I move it from the mason jar to the bucket.
    • Do you have any advice for me?
PS: I spoke to a friend and they said adding a beneficial bacteria (or established fish tank water) might prevent this, but they don't have any experience with Kratky.

Culantro has the same flavor as Cilantro but Culantro flavor is stronger. If you can't find Culantro you can just use twice as much Cilantro. Beware, if you use twice as much your recipe may take on a green color.
Oh, as you're growing Culantro, there will be a stalk growing in the middle of the plant. This is where the seeds grow from. Cut it off because the plant will give preference to the stalk and leaf growth will suffer. Tip: have one plant with stalk growth to get more seeds and the others without the stalks,
