I believe we are in the cusp of an orthodox renaissance! It’s only a matter of time! Be patient and stay in a state of Grace. I know it looks bleak but God is moving!🙏🏼
Thank you Kale for talking about this. I am late to Christianity, later still to the Catholic Church. Not confirmed yet, but in process. Oh my! You would be surprised that there are more than just a few like me- marginal misfits who are drawn to the beauty of what the traditional Church has to offer. Between the faithful who stayed committed, the immigrant population with traditional views and people like me entering the Church that hyper object you describe will melt away.
Excellent. I had several people send me this article this past week. It wasn’t a particularly complimentary article, but it felt nice to be seen. 😅 Interesting that it was published just a couple weeks after we left Madison, having visited for the first time. Much preferred La Crosse. The shrine there is amazing. Our Lady seems to be doing things in Wisconsin…
Bishop Barron says that even more than the scandals, a simple lack of belief in the metaphysical claims the Church makes is the most commonly cited reason for not being Catholic. I agree with you Kale, that the Church is too much like the world. I can get the world anywhere. On a related note, I am somewhat disappointed with the people I have met in church recently. Only rarely does one have that glow that we are attracted to. There is a lot of pettiness.
I agree. I was always embarrassed that the church didn't deal with the scandals properly especially because everyone in the churches I went to were great, but it was the metaphysical claims that pushed me out.
29:01 Spot on. Folks who feel they’ve been robbed are, in many ways, exactly correct. They just misremember, or never knew, the date and time of the incident.
Thanks for this, Kale! Great stuff. The fruit of the spirit of V2 will not be easily pried out of the hands of late boomers and gen x'ers. A personal annecdote, tell me what you think. The street I grew up on in Brazil was called Nossa Senhora da Aparecida and on the end of the street was the catholic church. But as an evangelical family, we walked by it very cautiously lest we got too close to idolatry. Well, two years ago I was visiting, and decided to go in for a Sunday evening mass: ho-hum preaching (expected), but also acoustic guitars, hand waving and clapping. A dismal sight for a "trad" millennial like me. Yet, the church was still full! (not a feast day). It was mostly older ladies, their husbands, and a few straggling 20-30 yeard olds... but still full. Here's my thought then: I don't think the trads have to wait just for the old priests to die. They will have to wait for the passing away of the 40-70 year old women & perhaps a big portion of the active laity in the global south & immigrant groups in North America.
I think if you're waiting for that many people to die, it's more likely some other problem will come along in the mean time that will throw another cultural wrench in the system first.
I'm ex RC now Orthodox - thanks be to God. All of our bishops and priests are Traditional, as are our Liturgies. Yes sure, maybe 1 priest in a million may be liberal, but it's a great exception. My priests offer the Traditional Holy Liturgy and guess what? they're NOT bullied as a result by the bishop!! Christos Anesti!!!

This was really quite good Kale
Awesome!

Demographic trends are a simple way for God to point the way through generations. He’s patient.
Awesome Kale! Thanks for doing it.
love it brother!

What is a Catholic? Easy. Saint Vincent of Lerins tells us.
