    So I ride in the midwest and enjoy the v3 5010. I feel like the changes made in the v4 are similar to what I've already done to me 5010. I want a bike that is more capable for my trips to Duluth and out west. My local trails are a little more groomed and more flowy but I do enjoy riding the hand cut trails more. I never care how fast I am on the climbs but I do care about the downs. I think i'd like the v4 5010.

    You've pretty much summed it up....bike park = get a bigger bike! For a 130mm travel bike (traditionally) the Ibis is what you're looking for. 3000+ vertical climbs, cross country terrain, poppy & fun = Ibis. If you're looking for a 130mm travel bike for the bike park (said no one) it's clearly the 5010. Thanks for the great review!

    A couple comments,
    - The "Liveliness" you feel on the Mojo4 is more than partially due to it's so-called "Flex". I rode a number of times with Scot Nichol in the '90s and I remember him having a love for chromoly and Ti because they provided feedback and felt *alive* where the full aluminum full sus Turner "Burner" Horst link I remember he rode for a short distance on one ride felt "Dead" - and that was the first time I recall ever hearing the word "Dead" applied to a bike.
    After I rode it a few weeks later, I had to agree.
    Everyone says the same 2 things about Ibis, *"Lively"* and *"Flexy"* but I don't believe you can have one without the other, and rather than talk about it as "Flex" I would like people to realize it's the "Life factor" Ibis *intentionally* builds into what would otherwise be a more typically dead carbon machine feel.
    - 2nd, I'd like you to bring a Transition Spur and Pivot Switchblade review to life because I feel it will benefit you & your credibility to have those riding experiences under your "Reviewer's belt".
    Thank you for your honest & rather unbiased reviews!

    Spot on with the Mojo 4 review.
    Adding personal feedback: ( Please don't think its negative... I'm learning as I go here and have ridden numerous bikes. )
    I found the Fox Factory "Trail Tune" rear shock on the Mojo 4 size large to be way overdamped. It's constantly getting held up on square edges with steep climbs and never opens up to help calm down "standard" trail chatter. I absolutely do not experience the "hoverbike" DW Link characteristic: at proper SAG and even with additional SAG. I kind of find the rear suspension to be similar to that of a 115mm on the 19' Giant Trance Advanced Pro 0 29 and also the 110mm of travel 2017-2021 Giant Anthem 27.5. These two bikes use a 42.5mm stroke vs the Mojo 4 at 50mm.
    Again, personal feedback notes... I just don't care for the 37mm offset fork at all. Again, seems to get held up. I agree its a great Grip 2 damper, however, its also diving and breaking traction when cambering on climbs. The headtube length is way too tall and the riser bar does't help at all. ( Not being negative... I dont care for 44mm reduced offset 29er forks either as they also dive and stab the trail when cambering on steep tech climbs. And yes, I do regularly ride "slow" for hours-on-end in very technical environments. )
    To be fair, I do find the bike feels locked-in when riding at regular trail speeds. Its the right size for me, that's for sure
    Anyway, I can't help but think of the Mojo 4 as a bike from 2011 to 2015 vs a modern era Long/Low/Slack. Even if someone were to have somehow rode the Mojo 4 in 2015, that 37mm reduced fork offset would likely be a step in the wrong direction, in my opinion.
    I have owned and ridden a 2014 Giant Anthem Advanced 0 large that has a similar "sprite" quality to it as the Mojo. However, the Anthem weighs 3 pounds less with a dropper post. Does 2014 have the edge on a 2021 Ibis?
    I have owned and ridden the 2017 Giant Anthem Advanced 0 large. That bike seems to have a bottomless rear shock feel. It rides significantly better than the overdamped "Trail Tune." No, neither bike has the Seattube angle and/or headtube angle of the Mojo. However, I absolutely pushed myself to the limits on both Anthems and have more confidence on the 17' than the Mojo 4.
    Frankly, I am dissapointed that the Mojo doesn't have the "hoverbike" feel. And I feel as if the suspension is not a "tool" to manage the trail. This brings me back to the comment on the 2014 Anthem's "sprite." Its like it only wants to pop off an over-damped shock as if "I have to appreciate the wheelbase." However, I had a bottomless ride quality and pop on the 17' Anthem I can assure you. Which, kind of spins off the terrible notion/comment, "as if the bike is from 10-years ago." Again, this is me trying to appreciate where it fits.
    Anyway, I feel sad about the ride quality. I owned an 18' Ripmo V1 size large and really liked the shock tune! Who doesn't?
    Moving forward... After everything I've said, I haven't done any shock tuning and have used the recommended settings on my first three rides. I suppose eventually I'll get it figured out. But, yeah, not exactly a great "ride-every-day bike" for me as delivered. Especially considering the thought of purchasing a new front fork to replace a 2021 Fox Factory 34 Grip 2 37mm reduced offset, replacing the carbon riser bar, and possibly replacing the 2021 Fox Factory DPS EVOL shock. Like, seriously, this is me upside down looking forward here!!! The Carbon S35 wheels with I9 Hydra hubs are a real question mark now. I just don't think that was a reasonable upgrade path at all. There's simply way too much to be sorted out here.

      Could I ask your weight? This is the first time I've heard about the rear end not being anything but exceptional and as a 'solid' chap myself I'm wondering if the issues around diving through the travel can be solved with spacers, or is the Mojo just too lightweight for bigger guys?

    Great reviews. I'm deciding on my next bike. Currently riding a 2018 Santa Cruz tallboy. I really love it. However I'm looking for something with a little more downhill capability but still can climb well. It looks like they've increased the travel on the new tallboy and made it a little more slack. Wondering how the tallboy compares with the MOJO. The 5010 seems a bit more overbiked for what I ride most of the time. Any comparison between those two bikes or any others I should be looking at? Im local. looking to hit your shop up this spring.

    • @bikersedge
      @bikersedge  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the kind words. It can be a little tough to compare 27.5 bikes with 29. They just feel so different on the trail. The new Tallboy is a stellar descender but it won’t climb as well as the one you have. The Mojo is probably the better climber as it’s lighter, more efficient and great in technical stuff. On the DH id probably prefer the Tallboy with the bigger wheels. They make up for the lack of travel.
      We will have a video coming out this week going over the Tallboy, Ripley and Spur. I’d recommend any of those.

    Santa Cruz bikes with the lower vpp handle great, but they are stupid heavy, I have a Hightower LT and a Tallboy 4 and the Tallboy weights 33 pounds/15 kilos... the LT is almost 1 kilo/2 pounds lighter...

    which one would you recommend for an aggressive new england tech gnar rider? lots of tight boulder fields and granite? lots of punchy techy climbs. not really that high speed, most of my riding is slower due to the trails being technical.

    • @bikersedge
      @bikersedge  4 роки тому +2

      I think the 5010 might be a little more suited to your riding style. It has a shorter wheelbase and a little deeper suspension feel for the boulders. Also, it is really good on technical climbs. The Mojo feels a bit more energetic and snappy, but I think the strengths of the 5010 would suit you better.

    How does the Orbea Occam compare to the Mojo? I know you said that felt fast and lively too.

    • @bikersedge
      @bikersedge  4 роки тому +1

      It's pretty tough comparing bikes with different wheel sizes. The Occam feels like a better climber and faster overall. The Mojo feels quicker and more mobile.

      Biker's Edge wow.... saying they Occam may climb better is amazing because the Mojo with DW link sounds hard to beat! Thanks for the reply.

    • @bikersedge
      @bikersedge  4 роки тому

      @@haydenlewis4040 To the Mojo's credit, I've only ridden it with the Maxxis Assegai tires. if it came with the High Roller/Rekon like the Occam, It might be hard to say which one climbs better. On techy climbs, I think the Mojo would handle better, but on a wide-open, straight climb, the Occam might take the cake. The Occam is a pretty remarkable climber.

    • @dansburns
      @dansburns 4 роки тому

      That is quite the compliment, but I do remember from your Occam review you said the only two bikes that climbed better were the Ripley and Ripmo. I agree on the tires for the new Mojo. DHR and DHF combo seem a little pretentious, much more with Assegai. I’d run something a lot less burly on a bike like this.

    • @bikersedge
      @bikersedge  4 роки тому

      The Ripley and the Ripmo V1 are right there in the mix with the Occam. I think the Ripley especially, climbs better than the Mojo. Again, I’ve only ridden it with the Assegais. Swapping those out for normal trail tires would make this a much better climber.
