+MKJ 808 That's some nonsense. A computer that powerful would fill an entire class room. Today's most powerful computational devices are only capable of rat brains. Human brains are a long way from being practical. Otherwise, an entire network of computers would be required. Then, the signals would have to travel through wires, bounce from a satellite, and travel through more wires. |OR| The signal would have to travel from network station to network station. The immensity of the project would be high. It's harder for mankind to make that happen than to leave alone. Theoretically, it's more practical to make fake neural cells. They don't degrade like organic cells. They are replaceable. It's difficult to make billions of fake neurons. Then, there is the synthetic structures that support them. Frames of fake material would be laced with conductive lines, joint intersections, and repeaters. There would probably be added capacitors. My cat's brain, replicated, would cost millions of dollars a year. Biologically, he lives off $5-$15 dollar food, water, and vet care. These are still going to add up. Yet not nearly as much that simulation would consume.

Your house is full of objects controlled with programming and gathering your data and you dont even know it.

+john joe Nah, we're not fucked. The technology to wipe out a lot of the need to burn so much fossil fuels is already within reach. It's called nuclear fission.
No, not those shitty generation 1 light water reactors that are too prone to melting down and use less than 1% of the energy in their fuel. I'm talking about generation 4 reactors. They're vastly improved in the area of safety and some like molten salt reactors can not melt down due to how differently they operate. They're made to use their fuel in a liquid form. Using water as a coolant, and having to keep it under high pressures is stupid.
There are also reactors that can run on so-called spent fuel, since the current reactors use less than 1% of the energy in their fuel. There are even ones that can run on the much more abundant isotope of uranium U-238, compared to current ones having to run on the much more rare and expensive U-235. There are massive stockpiles of used fuel rods that no one currently knows what to do with them.
There is also the promise of using thorium as a fuel. It's almost as abundant as lead in the earth, and its most common isotope is good for fuel. Its' worthless for making bombs too. Currently it is a waste product from mining rare earth metals used in modern electronics. Those slag piles are potentially full of energy.
Nuclear fusion is an even better solution, but it's currently no where close to being ready for large-scale commercial use in powering human civilization.

    • @jacksilver6613
      @jacksilver6613 8 років тому

+asdfghjkl Typically, U235 is used for atomic weapons. 1st Slow fusion 2nd fission 3rd byproduct of reaction

This changed my view on the matter.I was a denier that it is man made, but it's abundantly clear that it is. Even though it is a natural process for the Earth to warm and cool, it's warming significantly faster in recent times. However, i don't think we're that screwed to be honest. With all the freezing water entering the oceans, you'll see many places getting colder. For instance, when Greenland melts, Europe will be significantly colder. The world is just changing and we need to adapt our living situations and lifestyles. We aren't doomed, most of the world's oil will disappear long before that, and we will get smarter and more energy efficient as time passes.

One concern I have is that we as a society will waste money trying to maintain these cities and towns built along the cost rather than relocating them. Humans are capable of some amazing feats, but sometimes it's easier not to fight a war with nature.

Deniers understand, deep down They just want to be a-holes and deny it to contradict and/or make their money. Sadly, most have kids and even grandkids!! People like me who have no children, care more about their future. There's the real shame. Even if it wasn't as bad as the scientists conclude, wouldn't people want the best POSSIBLE life for their family? All else aside, their stance is very selfish. The cost of a slight modification to lifestyle is to much to pay in their eyes. So they will be paying for it. That's something none of us can deny!

I agree with this but like everything it has its limitations. Example when it cost me thousands of wasted dollars on a diesel 3/4 ton pickup truck then that's where the care and bullshit stops for me personally.
One of the biggest issues I have is the people who use this exact question I referenced above as a means to conclude that everyone should be on the climate change bandwagon and unfortunately it's simply not

It's so funny that there are still lots of people that deny global warming and are so ignorant about it, while it's happening every day. It's like we're back to the time where people believed that the Earth is flat. I live near the equator and it's like every coming year is recorded to be the hottest since 20-30 years. Back in early 2000s, winters seemed to linger for a little bit more than four months. Not bad for a tropical country, but now it's like we've cut back to 2 - 2 and a half. Beginning of March and it's hot already. It's like summer all year long with temperatures rising easily over 40 degree Celsius (104 F) and killer heat waves. Walking to school during afternoons is a nightmare. As someone who's intolerant to winter, I should be happy that I won't be getting sick so much throughout the colder months, but I miss it all.

i just dont understand the panic. So some land will be lost with rising sea levels. We aren't exactly starving for area. Here in the US, we have whole states basically empty (Wyoming, both Dakotas). There is plenty of land.
Also, we don't know the total trend. Maybe the "event" that wiped out the dinosaurs also caused the ice caps, and they might naturally be melting. We have such a small window of "knowledge" about our past.
Plus, humans are pretty adaptable, right? Do we think rising temps or sea levels will wipe us out? C'mon, we are stronger then that...

+blah all land isn't equal. shores and a small distance away from water are good for culture, growing our food, because life has happened and died for millions of years prior to us in those areas, making soil rich. if you drown those lands or let them erode away, you might find more land "inland" but it's not the same soil. corn grows there, but not everything else. and at some point you reach dry desert too

Watch out for their poisonous half-truth. Yes, sometimes ice extent increases rapidly but it's because fresh melt water, which is less dense than sea water and floats atop it, freezes more quickly than salt water. But although ice extent grows rapidly, it's only thin easily melted ice.

The loss of coastal land is huge, but what happens when the "cold" sink ice is gone? The ice acts as a thermal regulator for Earth much like a heat sink for a voltage regulator. A voltage regulator will burn up very quickly without a heat sink. This is an over simplified comparison.
